So after getting everything fixed and lifted to the new 24" track they installed a new liftmaster which had the exact same hum :( He said that was weird and called a special tech support line for installers (not the girls that read scripts for homeowners). The technician asked if it was plugged into an extension cord and he said that was the problem (I have yet to run the plug). He said that the transformer will hum unless a special extension cord is used, I have know idea if that is correct but we'll see when I run it. The head guy made it a point to tell me that if it still hums after I have an outlet he will come back and find another solution, hopefully not all talk but he seemed like a good guy that cared for whatever that is worth.

What BS, mine 8500 is plugged in not hooked up to an extension cord, which still hums. I called Liftmaster yesterday and explained the humming issue and they were more than happy enough to send me a replacement transformer.

Good to hear it worked out. Maybe a followup call to the owner to show your appreciation
would be nice.

Yeah, I figure I'll install the plug and if it still hums then I'll go that route, if you don't mind please let me know how the replacement goes (difficulty, if it fixes it, etc.) BTW did they ask you for a serial number or what? Just wondering what you had to give them in order for them to send you the transformer?

I'll keep you posted, should be here in 10 business days. Yes they asked me about the serial number, can't blame them! Their customer service was quite pleasant to deal with.

Glad to see the high road was taken by both parties to get your issue resolved. You sound like the type of customer I've always enjoyed doing business with!

I wouldn't worry too much about the transformer, the last thing Liftmaster or their Distributors want is negative reviews for an inexpensive part probably supplied by an outside vendor. Let us know how it works out.

 Everything she said!!!
Yeah. Call the owner, tell him to either have it re-installed right or remove it and refund the money you spent. Serious beans - absolutely unprofessional.

Actually, as soon as the installer said "well hopefully an hour or two but can't say for sure b/c we have never done a job like this before" I would have sent them packing.

I've dealt with contractors who have pulled this (and worse) stunts - you think you're hiring a professional and end up with Larry, Curley, and Moe. Then the contractor tried to balme *you* for *their* incompetence.

I've had jobs pulled out for **** workmanship before. If its as bad as you say it is, then yeah, they need to get someone who knows what they're doing out there to make it right, or get it off your property.

Call the owner - I'd be on the phone this morning. (Hell, I would have been on the phone YESTERDAY morning!) He needs to know he's going to be held to making this right come Tuesday. And tell him if the same band of fools show up to fix it they can remove it. Ummm... if it were me, I'd also stop payment on the check. No, I wouldn't have written the check. I would have had the owner come by and pick it up himself. And showed him the **** work his guys did.

Well I wouldn't go that far unfortunately. While the guy that I eventually got out did a good job they still left the area filthy and lots of screws that would pop tires and my drywall under the springs is damaged pretty good from the careless way the guys loosened/tightened the springs. At a minimum it is going to have to be sanded, cleaned and painted but that won't take too long. That is why I chose to just tip the one guy for his performance and attitude while he was there on the job and for nothing more. If we are talking about the company in general, and I had to rate the company from 1 to 5 stars they would eek out maybe a 2 b/c of all the hassle, attitude and damage/dirtiness they left and for "eventually" getting it right. I mean leaving the screws alone could puncture an extremely expensive set of tires on one performance car which I doubt they would pay for, so in good conscience I could never tell anyone to hire them. I would not hire them again and I really hate to say that but it is the truth.

Thanks, it is appreciated b/c if the humming doesn't go away with the installation of an outlet I'm going to have to go that route.

Thanks, I like to think I'm very fair and always try to take the road of not getting angry when at all possible. I will have to say though, this situation took me right to my limit lol :willy_nil It is sad too b/c it should have been a fun time!

Sounds like a pretty good outcome for a possibly ****** situation. Congratulations for standing your ground in a calm and proffesional manner, and giving the second installer that tip for fixing the issues is an awesome gesture that says a lot about you.

Sure, you won't use them again or recommend them, but you found that out with minimal stress and not too much hassle. You get a full 2 thumbs up from me mate, well handled.

I agree, and now that it is over I can just play with it, man I love how this liftmaster 8500 works, so smoooooooooth lol.

Only issue now is I can open my neighbor's garage door :headscrat I believe her "logic board" is bad b/c we have reset her codes numerous times and while it works for a while after a few hours my openers can open her's again. This is not just my opener, but also both other buttons that are on a different frequency that I have not programmed so they are completely random codes opening her door as well. I know this is 100% her issue with her opener but I really like my neighbors and all they know is I installed a bunch of stuff and now their garage door is doing funny things so I want to be as helpful as possible.

Anyone have any ideas? The "logic board" thing came straight from the company that installed my stuff, they said it is stuck in "learn" mode and the board needs to be replaced. Other funny thing is I used to be able to open her door when programming my old opener as well and it even had dip switches. She also has a "Genie" universal keypad that her garage door company things might be doing it as well. They said that unit should not work with her older liftmaster chain drive unit and couldn't believe it was, in fact all this weird stuff started about 6 months ago when she installed that thing. She reset everything again, cleared all codes and so far everything is fine, I can't open her door, she said she is not going to try to program the Genie Keypad on the advice of her garage door company and see if I can open her door later. How in the world would a Genie keypad cause this though, does anyone know? Thanks!
