So I got this cool ratchet for my Birthday. I know what it is used for. Or at least I think I do? Anyway here is my question. Does anyone know if I can get a rebuild kit that would allow me to turn it into a regular style ratchet? Also if so what would the kit # be? Thanks.
So here are some pics. Sorry about the crappy pics.

Last one here is a comparison of the R-70-B and a SM-70-M both 1/4

Nice! i don't know anything about that particular ratchet, but post your question over at collectingsnapon.com if Snapmom doesn't chime in. She knows as much about Snap-on as anybody

If you surmised that it is an air conditioning wrench/ratchet, you would be correct.

Snap on does not seem to offer anything remotely similar to that ratchet in their latest catalog.

A 1/4 drive plug is a good idea. They also made ( in limited sizes I think ) 1/4 " male drive sockets. Something to be on the lookout for.
No matter what though it's a bit big compared to a modern 1/4 drive rat so it's probably not worth putting too much effort into. Like you said, a good conversation piece.

Dug up a couple...
They are both for square fasteners or plugs or something.
Bonney 7/32 and Duro Chrome 3/16.

Thank You guys for the responses. I guess I didn't say what I was trying to say. I would like to convert it to a 3/8 drive ratchet. Because of its size. Sorry just noticed I didn't add that.

The old 3/8 drive ferret ratchets have a gear that is about an 1/8" thicker, you could machine it down but its too thick to drop in and work. I had the same idea last year.

What about using an adaptor?
This one from Hazet (6413-2) will fit the 1/4 female and give you a 3/8 drive.

Finally got bored and depressed enough to do this . Took a rebuild kit gear from I have no idea what kit # and filed it down to fit.
You need a ******* file with a safe edge and a lot of patience. The safe edge goes against the part of the gear with the grind mark in it.
File, check for fit, file more , check ..... A couple of hrs later a 2 dollar yard sale ratchet is now a no dollar curiosity.

Yes, that ring is removable. One of the things I like about old Snappys is that wear point is renewable.
Also, don't fret about not having one of these rats. They go for cheap because they don't work with regular sockets

Most of those I run across are Williams/Bonney/Walden/Imperial.

I have a bunch of those Bonney insert sockets. I think at one time years ago they came in a nice little box set.

Cool. I see plenty of Waldens around here but not too many of the others. If I come across a whole set of the sockets I may drop the old gear back in. :)
