My mistake, I thought you said you were 17?? Are you an apprentice? Care to elaborate?

Anyway, nice pics.

Yes I am, been an apprentice fitter since 15, and worked on farms since I was 12, and always had a love for good tools, and had to start my own when my parents split up, so for the list 3-4 years I've been buying a lot on eBay and local garage sales, etc

Good on ya mate!

All the apprentices I know would buy brand new Sidchrome or Kincrome tool sets and tool box or cabinet. I think it's because of the Tools For Your Trade Payment Initiative by the government. I think the initiative is changing in the next financial year to a loan (up to $20k) instead of a grant.

Correct, any claims before 1st July will still be paid out, but then it's a 20k interest free loan, but it's given out at $80pw, or around that.

... Seems that the items Bunnings are selling .... are ridgydidge.

... and the e-mail response

nws-tools.de said:
... the sets mentioned are purely originated NWS parts 1st choice produced in our premises in Germany and part of a special sales campaign, not part of our cataloged range.

Tool Shop or Distributor ???

Hahhh ... nahhh ... I'm just an old bloke, fed up with paying for brand names,
.... stuck on no-name, bits and pieces .. whether it be tools, cars, ... or anything else .. ;);)

I think this thread needs more pictures...

Here's my Koken 3/8" hex and torx bit sockets. The Koken matt finish is akin to the German matt finish so it fits well with Hazet or Stahlwille.

Nice torque wrench! I didn't realise that Carolus made tools in Germany.

I was just contemplating on getting a better torque wrench. Anyway here are pics of my el cheapo torque wrench (paid ~$25 new).

Thanks!

Carolus is owned by gedore, im not sure if they still make their torue wrenches in Germany, they are identical to the Gedore ones. Works beautifully and is made beautifully. Maybe monte can answer if they are still made in germany

That style still has some good uses. You can set bearing preload ring and pinion setups on some rear ends.

On a separate note. How do you like the blue and black hazet screwdrivers on that fine cart of yours?

TURNS OUT MASTERS IS LOWES

Masters Home Improvement is the trading name of an Australian Home Improvement chain, operated by a joint venture between Australian Retailer Woolworths Limited and Mooresville, North Carolina (United States) based hardware chain, Lowe's.[2] Masters was created as a way for Woolworths Limited to crack into the hardware retail space, which has been historically dominated by Bunnings Warehouse, which is owned by arch rival Wesfarmers. The two companies already compete with each other with groceries and general merchandise.

I love my Hazet screwdrivers, the handles are mostly black so you hardly notice the oil and grease stains and their tips have endured quite a lot without damage. Much better than my old Wera laser etched screwdrivers that got damaged within days.

Best off all they're pretty cheap, I think I paid about $25 for the set. That's cheaper than most Chinese made screwdriver sets available in Australia!

Fellow Aussies,

I got a hot tip, you now can buy from Sears.com - delivery to Australia is capped to $25 for orders above $100 :shocking:

Their tool selection is very extensive, although most Craftsman tools are now made in China.

Click here for direct link to Sears (make sure the Aussie flag is shown on top right). On home page, hover on top right link for "International Shipping Promotions" - it says weight restriction may apply but when tested by checking out hundreds of kilos of garage storage (tool cabinets, workbenches), it didn't complain - shipping is still $25.

Might be a system flaw?

Great collection!

I have the red shears, which I have seen under a few different brands. Does anyone know who actually makes them? Erdi or someone else?
i guess Erdi was/is the OEM. "Erdi" = Ernst Diener Werkzeugfabrik. A scissor/shears manufacturer located in Solingen/Germany. Was bought by Bessey in 1979. Until a few years ago the pictured scissors were labelled "Solingen" but they outsoured the cheaper scissors to China and the cheaper metal shears/tin snips are nowadays from Taiwan.

Here is my tool collection. Not overly big but they do the job. I also have an Australian made Rota box sitting somewhere.

Here is my $20 tool box from Repco.
View media item 41115
This is the top part of the chest. I have some sockets (Kincrome, Supatool and GV tools), 2 stroke oil, lawnmower keys, breaker bar and wire brush.
View media item 41117
My screwdriver draw. 100 piece bit set, Kincrome bit screwdriver with torx, Kincrome torx 40, Stanley Yankee and other normal screwdrivers. The 2 dark green are Stanley (the bigger is Australian) and the dark red is Sidchrome.
View media item 41127
My pliers draw. I have Mechpro locking pliers, eagle and arlec pliers and some unknown brand. Also have a supatool crimping/stripping set.
View media item 41126
The draw of spanners. Don't have too many of them. The big one along the front is a Whitworth 3/4 and 5/8. I have a stahlwille (black near centre) and a sidchrome (on the right), best spanner I have used. The one near the back right is also Australian made.
View media item 41125
Quite an empty drawer. Supatool allen keys and an indian made file.
View media item 41120
Finally, This is what is in the bottom cabinet. The tin has a few (15) old spark plugs (all working) and the black case is GV tool 1/2 inch set.

Sorry guys but I don't have a tool box to share as most of my every day stuff hangs on a pegboard.

Very nice set up you got there, I like that you can find something at a glance.

Here is my tool collection. Not overly big but they do the job.

That rolling cab looks handy, wish I had one. Thanks for sharing.

I placed a small order, lets see how it turns out!

Somehow I knew you would :)

Forgot to mention; Sears.com is a marketplace like Amazon.com so make sure to select Sears as the seller and not a 3rd party but I'm sure you noticed that.

I got my Craftsman torque wrench from Sears a couple of years ago. At the same time I got a few Lisle automotive tools (low priced brand in USA) like a plastic fastener remover, drain pan, oil filter tool, disc brake pad spreader and fold-up creeper. All were made in USA and quite inexpensive. For what ever reason, Lisle tools in Australia is extremely expensive, makes Stahlwille's 100% mark up look cheap.

Hi submariner,

i purchased a craftsman USA set of screwdrivers to replace my stanley china ones , some channelock pliers and an estwing hammer.

ill keep my eye out for the lisle tools!!

The construction of some is so similar that I'm sure they're made in the same factory in Taiwan. Any thoughts?

Jedi, there's nothing in that box to be ashamed of, regardless of where you live. Your stuff is top-notch by anyone's standards, even if it's not brands we usually see in my part of the world.

Matt, you've got a heck of a collection too, all the more so for your age - but if I may make a construction suggestion: you need to do something else with your micrometers and digital calipers. These are precision tools, and won't stand up to being piled up on one another in a drawer like wrenches. It won't be long before the faces get dinged up and you will have lost some of your hard earned investment. I realize real estate is at a premium in everyone's box, but those really need to be stored laying flat in a single layer at the least.

These are the "rough" set, I have my good set in my box at work, with 0-25 & 25-50 Mitutoyo digimatic mics, 50-75 and 75-100 thimble mics, 200mm digimatic calipers, 0-4" thimble mic, 8" inside mic, and precision bevel protractor, as well as that these ones Ingot used and never had a case to start with, when I get a bottom box this will be sorted out either way
