Guys, i've seen a few pics posted of these ratchets. Are these custom made drives, or can they be bought like that?

I've run in to some places where i need to turn a bigger socket, but no room for a 3/8 ratchet. And i'm not talking about needing this ratchet for breaking bolts loose. I'm talking once the bolt is broke with a wrench, just needing to turn it with very little pressure on it.

If i can't find one, maybe buy a williams 36t 1/4 flex and a 3/8's repair kit and have it machined to fit? Or will the drive be hardened and useless to machine?

Snap-On makes it. I do not have one, but I have a friend that does. I usually use extensions and swivels to into tight spots. Where they don't fit there are low profile sets. It is on the web site.

Take a look at it as well. I have a feeling the wright will be a bit cheaper tho. :lol_hitti

I've got a FCF72, bought it because there was all kinds of hoopla here about having 3/8" heads in 1/4" Bodies, and my SO guy had em on special...glad I did, its very very handy. I use it way more then I thought I would.

I was getting ready to mention the FCF72 as well, it's on my to buy list...it's a little longer than most of your typical 1/4" body 3/8 drive rats.

yep, i've used one (not mine, but a tech i work with frequently) and it's AWESOME. i always do a double-take when i see it, though! :lol:

The difference is the head of the ratchet is more compact. It is a 1/4 inch head with a 3/8 drive. A stubby would have a 3/8 head that is very short in regards to the handle length.

I have one of these, sometimes the drive on the opposite side gets in the way, when in a tight spot. It is not bad. Mine is a cheap one though.

They also make the same kind of thing in an air ratchet, 3/8" drive guts in a 1/4" drive body. Very handy in tight quarters. Mine happens to be Mac branded (probably made by IR) but there are other brands, of course.

Snap on FHCNF72 has been a go to of mine for years also I have a thlfd80 that I swapped out the guts from fcf72 that work great

After some reading on here a while back, I really wish Snap-On still offered the 3/8" drive-1/4" body rebuild kit they used to have for the 36 tooth ratchets. Would love to pick up a Willaims 1/4" flex head and throw one in.

Here Are the SK ratchets. The 3/8 is SK part number 45173. What I really would like is a small 1/4 drive SK roto ratchet!
