It should be stamped on the back, it can be faint and hard to read. It is kr if no lock and roll drawer catches, or a krl if it does. It is a 600 series, but I don't know the exact number off the top of my head. Hope your uncles is doing alright, that is a nice box he gave you.

I wouldn't put much of anything into it honestly. I'd just clean it up real good. If you got wax maybe do that. If you can fix the drawers for free then do that but usually it's hard to sell a tool box for what it will be worth. I had a Krl722 with locker and riser. Damn good condition. I ended up letting it go sadly for $2800. It was incredibly disappointing because I didn't want to let it go and I didn't get near what I had in it.

If you are looking to sell it, fixing up as much broken stuff as you can easily remedy beforehand will get you the best price. The aluminum trim on the left side should be available from Snap on, and if you can bend the sheet metal back into shape to get the new trim in place, it's only held on by a couple of rivets.

As far as the drawer slides, don't condemn them until you've tried to clean them and re-lube. They can often be brought back to life. Then give the box a thorough cleaning and wax.

It would be hard to place a value without clear photos of any damage. But in very good condition these two boxes could bring about $3,000 to $3,500. Significant damage can reduce that a lot.

If you're interested in selling off any Snap-On tools, PM me. I'm also from Mesa.

That's a possibility. Still have to go through everything, might take a while... it is hot out after all.

You can probably get $1,000 or so for the top box, but I can't imagine someone paying much for the bottom. That damage is pretty bad.

Good to know. And yeah, I just sent a couple of my auto body/fab shop friends some messages to see if they might be able to straighten it out a bit. I'm thinking I might keep the bottom as a possible work bench, and use the top box to fund a new tool box, or Jeep parts. Thanks for all the help guys!

You will be spoiled by that box when you see what a new box might stack up! If you have a work bench, consider putting the top box on a bench. I did that and really liked the height. You seemed to inherit a trove of snappy goodness that most guys spend good money in. You mentioned jeep parts. I presume you work on them yourself? Don't shoot yourself in the foot a few years from now thinking damn I need to go buy x b/c I sold it for some bucks!!! Don't get me wrong , thin out the stuff you know you won't use, but I would keep the core chrome, screwdrivers, picks, pry bars, air tools, (stick some oil in them). Etc.

Pull all the drawers out of that bottom box. You'd be surprised what a porta power could do to straighten that thing out. Seeing as those were free boxes from your very generous uncle maybe they would be best kept in the family. If you need any slides or warranty parts have your uncle give SO a call. They won't deny him.

I won't be making any decisions right away. I do work on my own Jeep (97 Wrangler). It was my first vehicle I bought and paid for myself. I've owned it going on 10 years now, and will never get rid of it. As for the box and tools, I've got a lot of sorting, cleaning, and organizing because my uncle was lazy. Haha I'm on call this week for work so I won't have any spare time until next weekend. Once I go through everything I'll figure out what I'll do with the boxes.

If I was you, I would keep all of it.

Why?

You're never going to get that good of a deal again. And even if you sell it for 'fair value', you will inevitably never be able to replace it for the same price.

If there's odd specialty tools for things you know you have no interest in, I would move those. Everything else, keep.

It's always better to have more tools than needed to do the job, than not enough.

Besides, if you downsize the box but keep most of the stuff, your ability to organize it will be hampered... And that's an important thing, IMHO.

Anyways, hoping the best for your uncle.

I'm with the keep it bunch here as well. maybe 1% of us here ever talk of down sizing. We all need to up size. You sound like the type of guy that will grow to appreciate that box and the tools more and more over time. Make your uncle proud, keep it.

So I had a little time to rummage around in the boxes this evening. I sorted and cleaned out a bunch of garbage from a few drawers. Here's what's inside.

Drawer with broken slides.

Under broken drawer.

OLD 7.2V Nicd Drills

That's not all of the drawers, but a good idea about the innards. The drawers I didn't show are full of scrap hose, clamps, bolts and nuts, and a **** ton of other misc items(random spark plugs, vacuum caps, wire nuts etc.)

Looks like I've got my work cut out for me.:eyecrazy:

Two words....KEEP IT....For starters it's family, there is a reason he gave it to you. He may see something in you that you yourself haven't realized yet. It didn't cost you a dime. Price out what it would take to replace even some of those tools. I guarantee you will regret it. Off-loading odd or specialty tools is one thing, but a whole box full of tools something else. There's a story in that dent....find out what it is and smile every time you retell it to your buddies. Just keep it...........

Keep it.
Clean up the tools with some WD40 on a shop rag.
Get some drawer liners.
Clean the box and wax it.
Enjoy.
(you'll be years ahead of anyone who had to pay $ for all that)

Oh I'm keeping all the tools... except for the odd mechanic ones that I'll never need. Like these (carb adjuster, fly wheel turner, brake spring tool).

But I'm keeping the base. I was looking for a value to add it to my insurance policy for the house I'm renting. The top box, once emptied, I might unload... but I haven't made up my mind yet. Still got some sorting and cleaning to do.

They are pretty rare. Snap on made a limited number and discontinued them. They are now sought after by collectors.

I'd keep both box's. It didn't cost you a penny and you're going to regret selling it years down the road when you need more storage. Especially since it's from family AND it was free!

I bet if you put the yellow Snap On screwdrivers individually on Ebay, you damn near can buy new SO screwdriver set.
