Itinerant: Nice pickup on the Craftsman 1/4" set with case. I have one, but I don't have the case. I'm always on the lookout for one, though. My set did not include the ratchet, nor the extension. So, who knows?

Itinerant
Have same 1/4 inch box and set. It was my dad's and I can remember it back as the 60's.

Thanks guys, I found an AA article that shows the ratchet is part of the set. Seems I am missing one piece, a cross bar that would pass through the hole in the end of the flex-handle. According to the article the logos roughly date production between 1934-1944.

https://home.comcast.net/~alloy-artifacts/craftsman-be-hcircle-p3.html

Hammer, I'll keep my eyes open for a case for you.

Keep an eye on eBay, I've seen just the case (in various conditions) show up every now and then. (that's how I got mine)

I finally got a Kennedy box! After a couple years of searching, I stumbled upon a garage sale and the guy was willing to get rid of it. He kept most of the junk that was in the box but let me keep the cutting bits and inserts, maybe someone here or at work can use them.
Paid 40 bucks, not a bad price. The box is in rough cosmetic shape but structurally solid. It's already on my bench and holding all my lock rekeying tools!

Am I the only one that sees the irony here? Jeff Moss buys a toolbox that is missing a lock : ) I'll bet he's got one or two laying around that will fit it !!

My dad said the same thing! I actually don't have too many cam locks so I would probably end up ordering one from Kennedy.
However, since I am keeping all of my various cleaners/lubricants for locks in the top section, the lid won't need to be closed.

Jeff, good box.
I agree with the guys, I bet you could key that up real easily and you could sell that tooling and pay for your box.
Ding ,Ding ,Ding!! I believe we have a winner!
I am still not sure which end was modified but I tried to take some close-ups to help clarify. I guess I won't be filling the safe deposit box I don't have with a bundle of money. Although one could argue it's rarity and that there probably isn't another one just like it:willy_nil

Thanks for all the pics! That is a real interesting find. Hard for me to tell from where I am but it looks like the torque measuring section may have been attached at one point. Question is who altered it, factory or owner? Here's a couple pictures of one ripped from Ebay.

Hard for me to believe but I hit just one yard sale down the street and picked this all up for $30.

Nine, I know at least you and maybe some others would probably beat the $%#* out of me for not purchasing an old school working Craftsman block grinder with two stone wheels for $7. I was a bit overwhelmed by the good prices, + the heat & lack of time.

I purposely only spent a few bucks at the flea market today - want to save up for Epstein's Day this 4th. But I did manage to find a few more things.

Pic 1: all for $3
Ford head bolt/spark plug wrench, M-17017, made 1933-1938, add to my Ford collection!
VLChek DOE wrench, W2024
Billings short tappet wrench, very thin
Xcelite nutdriver
Stanley 1299 utility knife, have a few of these, but this variant I've never seen before

Pics 2-4: only $2
Cole single drawer card file cabinet, some light rash but not bad. Will sand and repaint sometime in the future

Pic 5: all for $1
wire stripper
3M sanding block
Walden-Worcester 1/2-drive socket
Allen keys, drill bits, closet shelf hanger, and a drill chuck key

$30  - You **** !!!!!! I just spent more than that for 3 Williams wrenches !

The first Flea Market was a bust this morning, so I traveled to another one that I don't like to go to ($1 entrance fee and full of chinese knockoffs). At the outdoor tables I only came up with a C-clamp. I normally don't go inside because it's a claustrophobic fire hazard deathtrap filled with cheap imports for the non-english speaking population. Today I didn't have a choice. I'm in the middle of rebuilding my deck rail and need a 1 5/16" box end wrench or combo to secure the railing posts.

[begin rant :tantrum2:] I've spent the last two days trying to track down this wrench. I have the size above and the size below, but not 1 5/16" and an adjustable wrench is too big to fit in the space I need to put the nuts. I've searched 5 auto parts stores, 4 hardware stores, 2 box stores, 2 Sears stores, and Harbor Freight. As well as making calls outside my area to find stock. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr ! Sears is the only one that stocks that size on the shelf, and all the stores in my area have empty pegs. Thanks Sears for pretending to still be the go to place to shop ![:thefinger end rant]

So, I sucked it up and went inside today. There is a used tool dealer waaaaaay in the back that sells his tools for top dollar (IMO), so I usually won't go near him. I went to his stall this morning on the off chance that he might have a cheap chinese wrench in the size I need, just to get the job done. He did. :rocker: Not only that, but I found the size I needed in a Williams as well, along with 2 other large sizes to match. So I dumped the cheap junk. Now for the hard part ............ asking his price. He wanted $60 for 3 wrenches and the broken breaker bar. I've never seen this guy go down on his prices, He'll throw you out first. I offered $50, and amazingly he said YES. :bounce:

As a cheap *** *******, it's more than I would normally pay, but I need to get the deck rebuilt before my nephew's 1st b-day next weekend. So I sucked it up and spent my gas money.

So, for $53 total, I ended up with :

Williams USA Superrench #1176 1 7/16" combo wrench
Williams USA Superrench #1176A 1 3/8" combo wrench
Williams USA Superrench #1174 1 5/16" combo wrench (yea !)
Williams (Diamond W) B-30 90° breaker bar (w/ broken detent spring and ground end)
3" Stearns C-clamp ($3)

4 sales today, and not a bit of "man stuff". Only thing I came home with, other than less fuel in the tank, were some old Tonga Room tiki salt and pepper shakers.

Man ya'll had some awesome hauls this weekend.

$5.00 netted me some Plvmb ignition wrenches, a mixed set of USA made sockets (snap on, husky, etc) in a nice Walden box, and a bronze Paul J Daemicke ice box hinge.

For $9 I got the SK in 1/4" drive, some proto, some snapon, some craftsman, and a brake pliers, a hazet wrench ( my first one!), and a craftsman punch that don't look used. The swivels are craftsman but need some cleaning up. Figured I'll give it a shot. Oh and one of the big sockets are Plumb, but i forgot what size now.

Well, today I found what may just be the best ratchet ever, better than Snap On dual 80's. I'm really flabbergasted in just how silky smooth the Bonney A707 is. Apparently, after a little research, it's a 90 tooth, and from the 60's, I'm guessing. Anyone have one, or know anything about it? My cheap a$$ almost passed on this because it was $15. Now, I'm considering getting rid of most of my other 1/2" ratchets; as I just got a taste of the good life, and I may not be able to go back. The search is on for more of these Bonneys.

Here's a lot of "stuff" I've acquired within the last couple of weeks. The Reed vise is pretty large and for $8 along with the Snap-on MT-215B timing light I couldn't say no, nor did I haggle. Sometimes you just got to drop your poker face and pay the man especially when the wolves start to circle.

The box I scored on CL is full of tools. Pretty much chum with a couple of keepers along with a nice 1/2" Snappy ratchet and a set of Proto SAE 1/2" drive 12pt sockets. I started a thread on the box, and most concluded that it was probably a Huot or Waterloo rebadge. Either way it's gonna get the treatment and mounted in the cargo area of an SUV I'm building for the trails.

The other items are a Charles Parker No. 21x in restorable condition, and the WASTE OIL sign for the wall. I scored the vise from the flee market a couple of weeks ago, but it's been in my wife's trunk since then. The screw driver kit and the Channel Locks were $4. I also nabbed a New Britain body hammer but put it on the bench to clean it up so it missed the photo shoot.

The final grab was at Good Will with my wife and son today while my wife was looking for designers' fashion with a thrift store price tag, not so different from us tool hounds. Though it's not a tool, nor is it a "You ****" score I never pass up numbered prints in a frame. I'm guessing this Pfizer print was in the office building or maybe was a gift to a previous employee. Whatever the case I thought it was cool and grabbed it for the $2 asking price (50% off day:rocker:).

How can you be jealous of the Hole Hog ? You got a killer deal on a Mag Drill that could eat the Hole Hog for breakfast !

I have a soft spot for Milwaukee though and would love to find one at that price! I was eyeballing Outlaws orbital sawzall find as well but just picked one of those up pretty recently, though mine was 2-2.5x the price :p

TMT, I've never seen a Reed vise like that, how wide are the jaws and how much does it open? Also, check out the link below for your print find

Got this on for FREE on a look buy and swap site... It works great, now to take it apart and repaint it. A Walker 884 B - a great addition to my shop. The Beaver table saw was two years ago. I love it when people don't care that they have good tools.

I agree, I don't own one but I've seen several, nice rats. The only downside is if you break parts, you're probably sol on finding a rebuild kit.

I have a Bonney round head 3/4 rat that looks like a huge version of SK's 3/8 round head. I posted pics on here and most people had never even seen one. It has a detachable handle like the Snap-on 3/4 rats. I really like it and I hope with the light use I give it, that it will never break.

Bonney's wrenches are also very nice from what I have seen.

BTW you killed it on that set $1 is like stealing.I'd be glad to double your investment for you.

I believe that logo dates to the 1960's. I am still looking for more info though.

These are road ratchets.

I found the MAC last Sat. bright and early on my way out to some of the worst sales of the year. Has some scars from hitting the pavement but works fine. Made it a good day.

Friday I spotted the Cman V on the side of the road. Had a strange blister coat of rust that a small wire brush dusted off. And it looks like someone packed it with fresh grease.

Both found on the same road less than a mile from home. They say things happen in threes. Something to look forward to.

Only score for the weekend. 1/4" Indestro Super set, only missing a couple of sockets. Have to put those on my 'wish' list. The driver handle looks like it was a dog toy, or someone used vise grips on it for extra leverage!

The ratchet handle is flat between the head and knurling, never seen one like that.

It's the pressed flange model, so no taking apart and cleaning the innards. Or replacement parts. Was thinking about flushing it out with PB Blaster, but not sure how well it would drain out to re-oil.

Not this weekend, but fairly recently:

Picked up this grinder with motor. Works great.

Can't quite make out the name on the label. Says "Milwaukee" at the bottom. This low rez pic doesn't help...
photo3_zps599fe977.jpg

And to keep the garage cool, found this funky vintage fan for a buck.

I took the stone and wire wheel off, and put on buffing wheels.

Itinerant, the fan is pretty small, actually. I think 9". 10" tops. Pushes a lot of air, t though.

3" Stearns C-clamp ($3)

I think you did great on those wrenches cause you can't touch them new at that price. That's a harder to find breaker bar that somebody screwed with . Good stuff jakemac, I have a soft spot for Williams.

Two stops today ,one was an estate sale the other was following up a Craigslist ad.

The estate sale pics showed a 60-70's Craftsman roller cabinet in the gray/red paint scheme. What the pics didn't show well was the bottom 12 inches of the cabinet was pretty rusty and the contents left something to be desired, I was worried I might leave empty handed.
I managed to scrounge out these few items:
012 (Medium).JPG
Craftsman rubber/plastic tip hammer
Channellock 357 end nippers, a favorite at work
Small Swiss Army knife
DynoKwik Lock Picking Kit
and a 50 ft Lufkin tape
Total spent $4
Next stop planned via CL got me a Wooden Machinist's box.
I had been looking for one with the hopes of storing my custom made pens in to transport ,display, etc.
This one happened to have some tools in it:

I will be gifting the Starrett Combo Square set to my buddy who shared the file cabinet of cash windfall with me. He bought a really poor import set 6 months ago that was total ****,but looked good in the pics. It's a tool we use quite a bit and I owe him one, so next time I see him he's gonna get a surprise. I might try and knock out a quick wooden storage box before I give it away.
I'll probably keep the 6" rules as they are one of my favorites to keep in the pocket of my shirt or work aprons.
Everything else will be sold to help offset the $65 price I paid.

$65 worth of YOU **** let me know if you want to trade off those 4 clamps, top center of table. Any brand name on the box, it has really cool Gerstner style pulls.
