Speaking of Wilton's, that reminds me. My new grease cap came in the other day. With very minor alterations I think it looks great. Sure beats having a gaping hole back there.

Where the heck have you been? Your 5184 is about to get thrown in the blast cabinet and painted with whatever color I have on hand, maybe even a 2 tone!
You've missed my recent buys, to make it short, I've picked up a Parker 976 and 956 as well as a Craftsman 5197 plus a few others since you've posted in here!
Fantastic restoration (as usual)Do you have any before pics?
Great job on the restoration and swivel fab.Every time I see one of those bullets restored I begin lusting again.

Rusty Musket - I'm pretty positive that's a custom job, and it looks like you're stuck with it as it was quite thorough. I believe that is a very early model, wish I could give you a better time frame. I'm sure autopts will be a long sooner or later.
She appears to be in pretty rough shape, looks like a good challenge! Looking forward to seeing more as you progress.

I'm selling my Wilton Tradesman 1760 and someone offered to barter this plus cash. It is a Parker 974 and it looks in great condition. Anyone have any suggestions about potential problems with these? Can I easily remove and replace the jaws?
Thanks
I just want to know if they are fiddly to remove and then return to the vise.

DIF:
here you go, sorry for the hi-jack andrew, but i just ordered one monday.

Larry, your not fooling any of us. You are a vise hoarder, plain and simple. You may have to electrify that chain soon.

It's true Nick. I do hoard a little. But these values are approaching the Godfather level. Offers one can't refuse. I guess I'll be one of the last holdouts, but if it gets much crazier, they are going to force my hand.
VA: speaking of security like AutoPts mentioned here's a full size picture of the Blacksmithing table that was under a vise a few days ago. these are getting harder to find than huge vises so maybe you need to find a few reasonable ones, get them on your piece of Vise heaven and chain a ton or two of BIGUNS to the table and off the ground. helping you save the crew from getting dirty or escaping.

Drivesit,---That is one awesome sight. 4 of those slabs in one pile. Are they still making those things. I couldn't in any way afford one, but out of curiosity what do those tables cost approximately. I'm assuming their cast.
Happy 4th everyone.
I'm looking for a dynamic jaw for a 1983 Wilton 1740. I bought a decent conditoned Wilton 1740 for $25.00 but the previous owner really trashed the screws in the dynamic jaw and I don't think it is recoverable. I have two choices as I see it, replace the jaw or buy undrilled blank jaws and drill and tap new ones. If I had a machine shop I'd just drill the whole mess out, fill and retap using factory inserts, but as I don't...I thought I'd check on here.
PM me if you can help. Thanks.
Is this a good deal? I see that its USA made so I figure it's pretty decent, was going to offer $40.

I hear they're decent vises, obviously not meant for heavy duty work or pounding on objects that are clamped in it. If you need a decent Made in USA light-medium duty vise I think it would serve you well as long as it's not abused.

All: I picked up a pretty decent vise that says Wilton 606 SJ,
Alinc: with all the deals you are finding i'm just waiting for you to start up your own version of Home Depot. good for you. unfortunately that isn't one of them.
All: I picked up a pretty decent vise that says Wilton 606 SJ, but it looks and i hear it's a Columbian made for Wilton vise. is it???? it has 6 inch wide jaws and at least 150 pounds and probably closer to 180 because i think it is the heaviest vise i own now. i'd appreciate any information anybody has while i'm sorting it out and getting ready to restore it and if you want to give some good information about it you can do so here or on a thread i'm going to start on it since i only found one other one on the internet and very little information. guess where i found the information? GJ in 2012 some member had one and who knows maybe this was it.
American Scale No 79 is identical to your Wilton.![]()
