Yesterday's haul, all USA: (1) SK diamond complete set, with my favorite SK logo; (1) small Vise-Grip; (1) Wiss Inlaid 22w 12" upholstery shears, which are quite beefy, and apparently sell for $40 new still to this day; (1) SO sgd480a long flat from 1993; (1) Irwin or Klein flat (not sure); and (1) Warner wallpaper scraper. $12

View media item 41740

I have the same SK case and now I know what the original configuration looks like.

$12 you ****!

My first estate sale of the year. There were some old Chiltons and miscellaneous parts bins I passed up, but I picked up these home made ramps. I just saw the ramp parts themselves first and was interested with no particular reason, and the guy pointed out the platforms. He wanted $7. I picked up a Bonney wrench (1166) and gave him an even $10.

Now I just need to find some round stock to hold them together.

$50. They had the boxes marked $20, but when I brought it up they claimed it was for the box only and nothing inside (and then yelled at the person to go down there and empty the boxes out). So, in rough order:

Craftsman cantilever box
SAE craftsman offset wrench set (6 pc)
Sears USA compression tester (new)
Craftsman ratcheting chain wrench
Two new craftsman Torx sockets
PowrKraft swivel socket
PowrKraft (Wright?) 3/8 ratchet
1/4 craftsman breaker
Three craftsman flare wrenches
Two superwrenches
Two larger SAE craftsman crowsfeet and one Proto
Vise grips (I needed the 6LN). The sheetmetal set is weird that it doesn't have a release lever, but it doesn't look like it should?
Die handle, unmarked (probably Ace since I found some Ace dies laying around)
Plmvb war finish 1/4 ratchet, breaker, and four sockets
Two older pair of pliers
Three DOE craftsman SAE wrenches
1 Snap-On srewdriver

Nice Jerry. Now lets see the inside of that cantilever box.

Thanks man, there was another guy who has loads of carry boxes with tools in them all. He had 2 26 wide ones but they where on the rougher side.

Couldn't make the big Iola swap meet this week, so it was a couple of estate sales and a garage sale this morning. Spent about $15 on the tool-related stuff:

Old Diamond 6" adjustable, =Blackhawk= short offset dbe (I think this is the first time I've seen this style of Blackhawk wrench), Millers Falls electric drill with box and paperwork (works, but there's a pretty strong ozone odor), Craftsman =v= 1/2" drive speeder, Square-C Craftsman utility knife, the hack saw, bar, and chisel are all =Craftsman=, two sockets are =v= Craftsman (19/32", hex bit holder), two other sockets are Proto and SK, 2 SK wrenches, one Lifetime wrench (Barcalo-sourced), pre-Snap On Vacuum Grip pliers, Craftsman Underline DBE, 3 Craftsman combos, and a pair of P&C slip-joints.

Tomorrow is the big flea market that has been very good to me in the past, so hopefully I'll do a little better there.

What the hell is going on around Detroit and Dearborn? You guys are picking up loads every week!

You haven't seen anything until Rickster makes a post.

Box is empty in the pictures. Yeah, I'm good on the 6LN now, couldn't leave it there.

anodyne: just a thought that some of the gym equipment all in one sets have 7 foot solid steel poles the weights sliding up and down that you might be able to find at a scrap yard or in Craig's Free section. reason i say these might be in the free section because a cable might have broken, padding ripped or they just didn't want to figure out how to move it and set it outside and it got rusty. they are 1/2 to and inch on the nicer ones and some are solid and have a hole in one end to put a pin through which might work for your new Ramp. nice find

Nine: very creative way to end up with a killer welder.

Alinc, Flat, and Shadow: just want to know where your garages are and what hours i can stop by to shop. man all you guys are gathering up some great tools.

Not many sales today. The big local summer fair is going on this weekend so everybody is going there instead of having garage sales. Only found this old 1942 dated Audels machinists and tool makers handy book for a dollar and a tomtom GPS for 10cents that is missing the mount.

Figured the vise guys would like these pages. The illustrations are so detailed they are almost as good as a photograph.

Nice haul from a "Man's Garage Sale" this morning. Got there just as he opened and filled up a box with these. Full set of Armstrong wrenches and a set of SK's I couldn't pass up. Also a 3.8dr deep metric Snap-on socket set, 1/2dr SAE Snap-on impact socket set and a small Snap-on 1/2dr metric impact wobble set. A 3pc metric old style ratchet wrench set and a 1" stubby. Not pictured were some Matco metric wrenches and a small pile of assorted snap-on sockets.

Sale pops up on Craigslist sometime last evening, I do not see it advertised anywhere else. Sales says auto body repair business going out of business and make offers. Google the address and it is 10 minutes from the house in a somewhat rural area. Home with a shop/business behind the house. Oh Boy.......

So I hit the sale say 5 minutes before opening and they are open and I start talking to the guy and girl running the show. Seems they were selling off the guys dad's stuff. A lot of shop related equipment. They said everything in the shop is for sale except the newer Snap-On box and contents which I assume was full of hand tools . Oh well.

Absolutely no one there except myself and the girlfriend so I have the run of the place :D. So I go into search mode digging through everything in the shop which is pretty cluttered for like 45 minutes. Even with the big box off limits and with the help of the girl helping run the show I found the following. When I left there was still no one else there.

Bunch of MAC pliers, 90's, 45's, long, etc. Been looking for these type pliers at sales for a long time and never see them. $35 and was worth it to me due to the difficulty in finding at least for me.

IMG_0558_zps125b429f.jpg

MAC SAE Combo's $20 like new just dirty/dusty

IMG_0556_zps1472c021.jpg

Proto/Challenger Saltus and Craftsman tappet wrench along with some New Britain DOE's $5

IMG_0559_zps3b4987e7.jpg

Last weekends finds, Proto brass hammer and a CDI 1/4" drive in-# torque wrench $15

Dave, those Kennedy's are more than I would have wanted to pay, but I think I would have shelled out the cash for the as well, rather than waiting and hoping they'd still be there.

How much was the watchmakers cabinet, if you don't mind me asking?

I've got a bucket full of flares, and on the 4th of July I'l use one of the longer ones for lighting the fireworks. Reliable and easy, but DON"T drip any on yourself!

I just had to get them. The "other" vultures were circling and ready to swoop if I hadn't. I'm sure they would have been gone before half price day.

I paid a hefty price for it (ie $150). It was at the big Portland Expo where prices are always pretty high.

I learned that lesson at age 4. My father had some flares going on the 4th and I thought it would be a good idea to catch some of the glowing goo dripping out of them. Yeah.....that was a really really bad idea! :shocking:

Dedicated shopping.Hard work and a flashlight!!!

I hit a bunch of sales last weekend, [can't remember how many] that advertised "lot's" of tools. Only two had tools that weren't yard or power sanders/table saws, etc. Usually around here, {Cleveland was a very heavy industrial area at one time] if they advertise tools, they have a screw driver and a pair of rust pliers.

Damn, Dave...cabinet overload!
I went to three sales today. The first had no tools to speak of, the second had piles of rusty junk strewn out on the garage floor and I did not spot anything worth buying :(

I hit a garage sale on my way to work on Friday. Normally, folks don't start their Friday sales until 9am or later, when I'm already in the office, so I figure I miss out on the good stuff that goes quickly. This one was open at 8:30. As I wasn't intending to hit sales, I didn't have any cash. The homeowners graciously held the items while I ran to the cash machine. Here's my score. $20 for the lot:

Armstrong 6 piece combo set and 5 piece open ended mini set
DSCN2731_zps8a15b980.jpg

Wera insulated screwdrivers (3 flat blades and a #1 philips), Snap-on flat blade screwdriver, Stanley scratch awl, inspection mirror, wire bending jig, and a no-name ratcheting multi-bit screwdriver that I don't remember picking up.
DSCN2734_zpsfb4353cc.jpg

Some oil cans:
26411d2d-d6b6-4593-a06b-8a5bfefa55a7_zps7fb6f9e8.jpg

The last oilcan still had oil in it, so I brought it in the office with me. There's a big, heavy wooden fire door that been squealing every time it slowly closes and it's been driving me nuts. Fixed.

I checked out the sale online first, they had 2 toolboxes. I am guessing the tools on the floor were dumped out of the box since whoever bought the boxes did not want the tools :p

Little back story to my first yard sale today, in a past life I used to be a delivery driver at a Carquest store. We handled the account of a large, reputable body shop, and one of my favorite guys there had his own car restoration sideline business at his home, who we would also deliver to. I drove by and noticed tables being set up Friday I missed a lot of good stuff (they had a large tin sign, like 3 feet by 5 feet, that they sold for $100) because I didn't make it til today.

The piece I was most interested in was the mag base, it is an Eclipse made in England. We have a few Eclipse tools at work at they seem to be stout. It came with 2 SPI 1" travel indicators, cheap throwaways which I was low on. He also had a no-name 1-2" mic and a Starrett 4-5" #436-5 that is in nice shape but dirty and light etchings.

Armstrong No. 1, 4" c-clamp.
"The Globe Co" bale hook?
Pair of matching 1966 Ohio plates
lastly the weird little anvil...this thing must be home made.
also got some other goodies not pictured.

Second sale, scored this beautiful Lufkin 12" 4 piece combination square. They are hardened forged steel, not cast iron...except the protractor, I think it is cast. Then some random 1/2" drive sockets, 2 Proto drag link sockets, one larger Snap on drag link socket, and 7/16 and 5/8 flathead screwdriver bit sockets, and a 3/8 Snap on thumbwheel adapter.
