Ok, last purchase of this great tool box weekend. I decided on a whim to stop into another resale shop in town. I check this one periodically and had not been there for awhile. They always get new additions to the hand tool bins so I'm looking for good tools and find a nice SK 1/2 drive ratchet ($6) and extension ($2). Then on the tool box shelves among the over priced Craftsman hand boxes I spot this small SK box ($6) originally from a socket set I suspect. Perfect! I've been wanting to start an SK socket set collection and what better place to start than with the box and a couple starter items.

The inside probably needs a repaint to really clean it up and hopefully I can find a good match to the original green but the outside deserves to stay original.

rmalkow, Unless they had a long run, that All American is likely late 60's possibly early 70's I bought an All American top and bottom used in the early 70's. I sold it over 20 years ago and I swear I saw the same box at a flea market for two months in the past year...

A much better day today. I went the local flea market. Most of the regular sellers stayed away in fear of getting wet this morning. No rain. I got there about an hour later than I wanted to (over slept), now I'm wishing I had got my **** out of bed this morning.

AND, he only charged me $5 !
(they were trying to clear out their warehouse)

Whereabouts is this flea market? Usual good stuff, or just typical?

We had rain today so I only hit one estate sale. I came across this Craftsman box with a few items in it for $15. I was actually excited about the brass water nozzle, as my cheap plastic one just cracked a few days ago. The brass ones last forever, and costs $10 or so new.

Then later in the day I picked this up for free off of Craigslist. It's a Steelcase, quite heavy, and the drawers are quite smooth.

sunday morning only

Antiques, Kitch, Vintage clothing, tools, it all depends on who shows up to sell on any given sunday. NO IMPORT KNOCKOFFS.

What you find can be hit or miss. Some sellers have great prices, some ask top dollar. I'll had some great luck there one week, and then weeks of drought. I'd have better luck if I collected any and all of the older brands (I'd also have an empty wallet and no room to move in my shop), but I try to restrict myself to what I'm using. :dunno:

Get there early 7-7:30am, Some sellers start packing up by 10.

I hit up a nearby estate sale this morning. Somehow I missed the listing for it yesterday or I would have really cleaned up.

When I walked into the garage there was a LARGE pile of metal items out by the door. In the pole were two giant old house radiators, a wrought iron railing some other trinkets and a LARGE maybe 8" vise. There was a man standing nearby negotiating a price with the seller. She was offering it all to him for free because he was a regular at their sales and said if he didn't take it they would scrap it out. He said it looked like a good pile so he gave her $20. :wtf: He went to get his truck. When he came back I asked him if he wanted to break even on the money he had just spent and sell me the vise for $20. He said he wanted to keep it. He then offered to give me a, "couple bucks" to help him load the radiators into the van. I countered and said I'd do it for the section of railroad track in the pile. Done.

I did find a decent sized Reed vise for $15. A dozen screw-in ceiling hooks for $3. A small railroad rail piece for $1, an old c-clamp for $1, and a pair of OLD coupe, quarter panels in the rafters. I had to climb up to get them down. The seller told me someone yesterday had said they were for a Model T. I wasn't sure what they fit but knew it looked mid-20's to early 30's. While I was loading them up a man said that they were for a '32 Ford. I just laughed and said, 'I doubt it, but if they are I just hit the mother lode!' Got those both for $5.

960f5f1ec19c7a08d4743bd32b2826a4_zps1e0630e5.jpg

I then spent the next 30 minutes removing the vise from the bench. In their brilliance someone had mounted it using four non-slotted carriage bolts that the nuts had now rusted to on two of them. That was not fun! I ended up using a breaker bar to break it through the bottom of the bench. Worth it! Ughhhhhh....

I really want to throat punch you right now! You really **** with those quarter panel finds. I am not super good with my Fords but I think that those fit a '29 or '30 Roadster. You need to go post on the sister site fordbarn.com and I am sure someone will know what years they fit and I am sure they are worth at least $500 each. Super awesome find.

Please don't throat punch me.
I wish they were Ford parts as I have a Model A I'm building right now. However, I have it on pretty good authority from some of the folks over on the HAMB that they are '27-28 Chevy. Still neat and definitely a cool find.

Craigslist has been getting on my nerves all weekend... didn't have the chance to hit any garage sales or flea markets, but e-mailed a few people on CL about stuff.... like a 15" 50's CMan drill press, I've been e-mailing the guy every other day for a week, and he keeps reposting the ad... but never responds. like wtf?!?!

However, I made a huge (potentially) steal on eBay that I gotta go pick up today ;)

Air mattress repair, water bed repair, possibly tire patches, razorless hair removal...That last one was a joke but I'm sure you can find some more uses for it.

They're all spinning free! Some of them are fairly roached on the bottom sheet metal plate, which I may have to replace, but other than that, they all should clean up nicely!

Fan #6, that awesome lamp, and that awesome Duro box were another $7, so $17.50 and 100 miles round trip total! Been a fun Monday morning so far, and I have a lead around 6 tonight to check out a bunch more wrenches and stuff as well! Plus, that guy is doing another clean out at an old brewery in Philly soon, I get first dibs on anything "old and cool"!

Craigslist find. Craftsman 3/8" CF series socket set. Tools have a single small grind mark but still cool and i look at it as someones tools that helped them provide a living. Owner of the set was super to deal with.

That's a really awesome old set. IT does look like its missing some pieces but usually you don't find them even that complete.

The free pile out by the road has been good to me lately. First was the Sony home stereo unit I got a few houses down from a garage sale that was a bust, then all this **** later the same day from a Free ad in CL.
01508.jpg

Then, yesterday as I was coming back from the post office, I see this cool light on top of a garbage pile next to the road and had to stop and pick it up.

Free steelcase and a $15 rally woodgrain, YOU ****

The Steelcase has two problems, someone drilled out the lock, and did a terrible job of removing it, and then they proceeded to paint the cabinet with a brush. So, it's not without needing a little work, but functionally the drawers are awesome, and I really like the Art-Deco hardware.
