Snap on krl drawer slider removal/cleaning

I have a krl7002 that I am fixing up and I want to clean the slides but some stil seem to drag a good bit when I grab and pull on the slide with my hand. Some come flying out with no effort.
Should I actually pull them out of the box and soak the entire slide in something?
How do these come out? Just grab and yank up or wack the underside with a soft blow?
I remember someone saying they were held in with one set screw per slide but I don't see any. Where I'm pointing at is that where a screw should go?

Also there are 2 or 3 slides that don't seen to want to slide the entire way out. You can see in this picture the ones that have an inch or two yet to go but don't

Dunno how to describe it, but if you look at one of the slides that you got out, there is also a small tang which engages a hole in the sheet just behind the front clip...If you slide a plastic putty knife (Metal putty knife would work, but cause scratching) in bewtween the sheet & slide a small tap with a mallet upwards and they should pop right up.

I've seen people use a piece a plastic gutter capped at both ends filled with diesel to soak slides. IMHO if/when the time comes thats what I'll do.

You'll need special service tool SPP837 to pry the slides away from the walls.

Do you have a picture of this tool? I do a google search and can't find anything

There's no picture of the tool. I'm assuming it's a plastic pry bar with a special angle for its intended purpose.

You dont need to remove the slides from the box. You just need to remove the drawers. Pull the drawer all the way out and there should be a plastic tab on each slide. Raise one side up and push the other side down and pull the drawer completely out. I have used Amsoil MP spray but any other quality spray lube should be fine on the slides. You may want to take a rag and wipe down the grooves on the slides where the ball bearings ride and also wipe down the part of the slide attached to the drawer.

Edited: I see you have drawers out. Just clean slides in place and lube. They should be fine.

My special tool.
Just wedge out and pull up with the slide extended.
You also have to start at the top to get to the ones under it.
Start at the bottom when you put it back together.

I did take a rag that I kept spraying with carb cleaner and going over the riding surfaces. Seemed to help on some but there's still about 4 or 5 that you need to give extra push or pull when trying to close it or open it.
The other ones seen to just "zing" in and out no problem

Anyone know why 2 of the slides don't come 100% of the way out?

You need to equalize the slides by tugging on the drawer to bring it all the way out. Also, carb cleaner is not a good ideal because some of the parts in the slides are plastic. Besides that, carb cleaner won't cut through silicone grease anyway.

I guess I'll try and take them off and soak them in some kerosene or diesel

When I get home tonight I'm gonna try taking them off again. We'll see how it goes

Put it right where I have it in relation to that rectangular hole just above it, then lift up at the black arrow.

Just figured out the truck for the very top ones. You have to have the roller pushed in the whole way to clear the top.

So what's the best solution to soak these in? Diesel fuel?

WWSDD is Diesel...soak overnight, blow them out in the AM with compressed air and then slap em back in.
From my SO & MAC Guy....Built up Gunk due to oiling/greasing causes more slide failures & problems then anything else with these slides.

Hey guys I been having luck with the little blue hf clip tool. Am having trouble tho with the very top ones. Sure I'll get it here eventually.

For the very top one, do not extend it or push it back once you have "freed" it. Use the tool from the top about 4-5 inchs from the front. You have to work your way down as the one above blocks the next one.

I got all of them off now. Just gotta get a cap for a piece of PVC I had laying around so I can fill it up with diesel

Here's a question off topic to the slides but is the one side of the center support wall supposed to be seperate from the other somewhat?
The side I'm grabbing in the picture I can pull away a little. It appears to be no spot welds on that piece tho so I guess it's normal?

As for your center piece...suprising its not spot welded on that other side...with the slides & drawers installed is it "tight"? IF so, i'd probably be tempted to throw a couple pop-rivets on there...cant see why it would hurt anything.

This is an old thread but I did a search for the topic and this came up. I just wanted to say thanks to all. The procedure worked like a charm. I had all the drawers on my KRL756 rearranged in a few minutes.

I watched your video. What I do is extend the slide out a little bit before I insert the pry bar. Then as I'm prying, I pull up on the slide and twist at the same time. Slide pops right off. But you should get the real tool. It slips behind the slide real easy so that you don't have to hammer it. It's the SPP837 and it's only about $8.

I watched the video too. I use the plastic pry tool, but the one that's only half as wide, see post 13 in this thread. (It's still the same thickness) I don't have to hammer it in, it'll push in by hand. I like how retrodrive fumbled the first attempt at install. I did that myself more than once.

Yeah, whatever is handy would work as a pry tool. Should have mentioned that. At least now there is something out there that gives people the idea of what to do. It's short and sweet. Long videos about simple jobs annoy the **** out of me.
