Hi all,

I am nearing a point where my garage will be finished from a building point of view and I will start to insulate the inside.

Does anyone have experience of which is better or any options I should look at.

So far I am thinking of insulated plasterboard- all in one product that screws to the wall. Plasterboard bonded to extruded polystyrene insulant.

Or

Wood batons with loft insulation in between, vapour barrier and covered with plasterboard.

Am currently going with the insulated plaster board because its supposed to be all in one including a vapour barrier and will take a lot less time to put up and potentially cheaper!

Question is, will it be as good or better than loft insulation which is fibreglass wool I think- you know, the itchy stuff!

All advice is welcome

Kent would be where? The answer to your questions depends on where you live and wether you will heat or cool the garage.

I am in a similar position and am researching spray foam instead of fiberglass. Foam seems to have it hands down except for the cost.

Well, here in Montreal a typical standard for a heated space would be R20 in walls and R40 in ceiling. Spray foam is the best but around here it can cost up to ten times the price of bat insulation if you don't factor your labour on installing the bats. I would think your backed fiberboard does not come near any high insulation values. A lot of these products are developed for retrofits adding a little to what is there.

Thanks for the info, will try and find out what the insulation values are for the fibre board. Will also look into spray foam as well.
