*Sorry for the big pics.*

I have been looking at this website for sometime and finally decided to post. I wish I could do as others and just photo blast a bunch of photos of a product from complete to finish, but I am a long ways from that. Quick background. I am in the military and have been in TX for 8 years (Best thing ever was leaving that place). Anyways, I got stationed up in VA and decided to go ahead and buy some land for a shop "back at mama's". I live 4.5 hours away so I get to go home on the weekends and work on it and such. 12 years left before I retire and 3 years left before a new assignment. Hoping to get closer to home but if not oh well.

So on to pics. The land I bought was 1 acre for $6,000. My mom owned the land beside it and behind it so she said I could have it. Little over 2 acres. The few hundred acres you see behind it is family and friend land which I have access to hunt, ride, and fish on.

First off after about 4 months of back and forth with local companies and online companies then another month back and forth with diypolebarns.com on deciding on what to get here is my final result. Color is Grey with a Charcoal roof.

I am big into guns.. There will be a 400-500 yard shooting range out the back of my shop. I plan on building a gun room into my building. If you look at the red line that is my shooting lane.

Here is an Idea of where the shop is going to go

Front of land. Catfish ponds. Road is a dead end

What you see on the left and right is what the land was like all the way through. You could not walk through it.. My brother and his friend cut all the trees for fun years ago.. I cuss him every chance I get. BTW this is another friend helping before I got a tractor.

Got some good friends back home that won't accept a dime for payment for work. Ended up giving him some guns instead. Skid steer put in work.

Brother was working with a company and got the hook up on dirt.. He quit.. That *****

If I haven't mentioned it before I am a pretty big gun collector/builder. They make great trade items. Traded a couple guns at the cost to me of $1100 for this set-up. Old Deutz 40-06 and a trailer. Also got a bush hog not to long ago with a $40 gun I got from a gun show ha ha

She might not look good but I have been running it hard every weekend I can and it does work well.

So my friend stopped by (one with the skid) and saw me dragging logs (the ones my brother cut) and said he will be back. Him and his dad own a pretty successful marine construction and building company. Cost me a nagant revolver. That is all I could get him to accept.

You have some awesome friends!

Yeah they are. I have always helped them out with guns and such so they return the favor.. In a huge way. Thing is they all offered to help. I hate feeling like I am asking for handouts. So when they don't take $$ a gun always works.

Where ya at in Eastern NC? Also did you use Capitol buildings for your shop? I ask because of the excursion in your pics. A friend used them and he said that is what they came in.

I'm in Wilson, which is about an hour east of Raleigh.

No, mine was built by Diamond Outdoor Of the Carolinas. They did a good job and were done in about 2-1/2 days.

Good stuff. Just looked through your build. Some great projects in there. I have been to Wilson a bit over the years. Hour and a half from me (Beaufort County). My kid had use to go to the ENT out that way.

Just applied for my building permit. Only issue I see I might run into is the placement of shop. Unless they do a measurement I should be okay. I say that because it will be about 20ft over the "invisible" property line that I haven't put in my name yet. I need to get a surveyor out here and take care of that.

I have a buddy that's a surveyor, you might be able to trade with him for some hunting. PM if you're interested and I'll hook you two up and see how it works out.

If you look where the sand starts to curve I'm going to cut a new driveway straight. Need to get a tile for the ditch and get that worked in. No way I'm going to get an 18 wheeler in there as there is a sharp turn just beyond that. Got 6 loads of sand coming this week. uploadfromtaptalk1408359441846.jpg

Sand man thought it was a good idea to come today. I told him get my 6 loads by labor day but dang it just flooded yesterday ha. Good thing I have a D3 hanging out for a couple weeks. Didn't pay for that load...yet. We will see what happen when I get back next week.uploadfromtaptalk1408566042515.jpguploadfromtaptalk1408566051538.jpg

LOL, I know how that feels. My neighbor asked if they could come into where he was building a riding arena through our side of the fence. They were hauling 200 Quad axle loads in. After it rained I told the driver that showed up the next day "I don't think I'd try it." We ended up with two loads spread out where they went through the gate. It made for some firm footing when it dried out. They tried pulling it out with another dump, when they broke through the crust, it was stuck and had to dump the load. They ended up getting an excavator out here to drag them out.

I know right. Hope this firms up good. I got an 18 wheeler coming in 3 weeks. A few good friends are loggers and I was going to have them drop me a few log mats off for the truck and concrete.

Thanks! I ordered roof insulation with the materials because I figure it would be the hardest to do after the fact. I will look into the link you posted.

I love shooting ranges also. Now if only NC will let up on the dang rain...

I was hesitant about it to start with. The first build here was with it in the roof only, later I added it myself. My G/F is an engineer and she liked it so much, when the tornado took everything down, she had it put back all over and in her horse barn too. I used the F/B/F, it reflects the light also and made a heck of a difference. I've been installing it with silicone and sticking it to the underside of the horses run-in sheds. It's a good bang for the buck. FarmTek had some at one time in 8ft x 125ft rolls, but the other place was a better price per sq/ft. the nicest thing about, it does itch!
