Old flourescent magnifier lamp. Heavy as hell and built like a tank. $1

G_P,

Nice score on the lamp . I have had my eyes peeled for one of those. Those would come in handy for my increasingly tired eyes.

Would you happen to know the brand and whether it is US made?

Been slow around these parts for tools. If you want glassware, holiday decorations and kids clothes and the likes well it has been good for those folks I guess.

Been really scrounging of late but some meager findings over the last 3 weekends.

1949 KR Wilson Tool catalog. Not a score though at $25 but it is local and I collect that stuff.

IMG_0578_zps13079da5.jpg

New Britain rubber mallet, Strange Williams female hex drive ratchet that is stamped "Special", anyone know what it is for?. And a wrench that I had no idea what is for but later found out it is a spoke wrench. All $2

IMG_0579_zpsfb86d14f.jpg

And from an estate sale Friday a couple blocks behind my office, some punches that I had been on the lookout for. Nice basically unused Starrett and General pin punch sets. $25. No you ***** but fair priced I think especially since I have been on the look out for these.

Keep rocking it folks

Been awhile sense I've had the time to stop by a yard sale, but I seen one on the way home from work yesterday way out on a dirt road, and figured why not. I stopped by, and didn't see much accept for this box of goodies. I asked what they wanted for it, and the guy said "Oh, $10 bucks". Already knowing I was going to buy it at this point, I went ahead and asked if he'd take $5 just because lol. He said sure, than I realized I only had 4 one dollar bills in my wallet aside from a $50 and he said the $4 bucks was fine. Not a bad score for the weekend.

Never saw a little hammered finish Craftsman box like this before. It's a little rough and needs some sanding, paint, and a new decal. It only measures ~10" across, 5.5" wide, and 4" high. I figured for 8 bits it was worth it.

Will a couple of the longer skinny prop bottles fit in that box?

I went back to a local ES about 15 minutes before closing time and made an offer on this Craftsman roller with folding side table. They had $50 on it all day and agreed on my offer of $40. I think it's a win/win. Tomorrow it would have discounted more and I probably would not have got there early enough to score. It has the original keys and the top drawer was filled with about $10 worth of usable tools and stuff.
Now all I have to do is re-arrange the garage puzzle pieces to fit it into the master plan.

Last week I stopped at a garage sale, and looked through some boxes that were there but nothing jumped out at me. I put them back and the guy says $30 for all three. I found another empty one and said I've got $28 and he said yes.:D

Two crown-top craftsman and two other craftsman boxes.

Some good stuff and some not so good. The boxes alone were worth the money.

Stopped at the pawn shop a couple days ago and picked up a brand new starrett protractor head and center finder for 30 bucks still in the box and bag. And also picked up a few hammers a matco and Stanley dead blows and a 3lb raw hide for a grand total of 45 bucks.

Finally got to sort out all the older and vintage tools purchased at auction this week. Here's the quick run down.
Pliers, clamps, hay hooks, scissors, test lights, old monkey wrenches, three old wood planes, etc.
old auction tools-1.jpg

Masonry tools.
old auction tools-2.jpg

Hammers and home made chisels.
old auction tools-3.jpg

Blow torch, old 12V lamps, oil cans and two NOS American Optical respirators with a package of extra "chemical" filters. Hopefully the chemical is just carbon.
old auction tools-4.jpg

Misc stuff, welding helmet, reflectors, mower blades, a filter cup, small battery tester, an old car glove box door converted to a gauge panel. and a small but interesting display card holder from Goodyear Service Stores.
old auction tools-5.jpgold auction tools-6.jpg

A couple cool old headlight bezel rings, a very vintage BandAid metal can. and some wood letter punch holders I will re-purpose.

More in the next post……..

Continued sort of old tools from auction.
This first pic contains the Mystery Tools. I need help identifying these if anyone from GJ can recognize them. First were these two things with a spring clamp on the end, a short length of chain and a length of woven cloth rope? I have no idea what these could be for.
The other in the corner of the pic is some sort of wrench head but again have never seen one.
old auction tools-8.jpg

Wrenches and misc contents from a very old Kennedy tool box. Some of the tools looked like possibly spoons and shaping tools that would be used for lead filling?
old auction tools-9.jpgold auction tools-10.jpg

Old power tools. Some will need inspection and cords replaced before I plug them in. A Black & Decker 7" Service Master Sander, General Electric soldering iron, Shopmate Model 6100 electric drill, standard B&D drill, Synchro Model 504 vibrating sander/polisher (this one did work). And a Lincoln Arc torch which just looks scary all by itself. I cannot imagine using this with a welder.
old auction tools-14.jpg

Last in this post is a handful of power cords and one extension cord and a 1/6hp electric motor by Marathon Electric Corp.

Last item from auction this week (I promise).

A very old Kennedy tool box. All the hand wrenches and shaping spoons form the last post were in this box. It has the original brown paint inside the lids but outside shows this was a working mans box and took a lot of abuse in its lifetime. Latches still work and I hope to bang out the dents and restore it to former glory.
I especially like the decal on the inside and the slogan "Kennedy Kits" " Made of Metal".

CRAFTSMAN sockets,Craftsman 1/4" drive empty box(somebody was asking about one of these recently) Who?,

That was probably me awhile back asking about a small Craftsman socket box. I am ideally looking for one from 1935 that was a 9/32" socket set. But, I love old vintage tool boxes so if you are interested in selling this 1/4" drive box PM me.

Sorry I goofed the first big pic. but to answer the question, there were 3 pics worth of tools for $25, and it came to roughly a buck a too counting the Starrett punch set as one tool... :D

So yeah, about $5 for the Plvmbs! With what I had already I'm within 2-3 of having a full set from > 1" to small. :rocker: The 32nd sizes makes it harder to tell, and I'm not sure how small they went.

I'm trying to sort through some of the "older than I am" menagerie and reorganize, now I'm getting more full or near full sets of things.

2 yard sales this morning, one north and one south. I had to choose and I picked the wrong direction. They decided not to sell the tools in the ad, just furniture and baby stuff.

After that disappointment, I went to the FM and had a little luck, but most stuff I saw was way overpriced (The dealers were having a slow day due to the iffy weather, so they wanted top dollar for everything to make their table fee.)

Since I still had time I drove out to the northern sale. Not much there, but I was able to find the Forstner set that I needed for $5, so it wasn't a loss.

16pc Forstner set in case (made in china)
2 - 2-1/2" C-clamps (Stearns, Cincinnati Tool)
Diamalloy LN55 needle nose pliers
12" Utica adjustable wrench

Not including gas, I ended up spending $16.

Stupid rain, I wanted to go out this morning, but no....

The other night I stopped at my buddies. 3 years ago when we shared a garage, we started restoring an old 30's B+D bench grinder. I thought he finished it and was using it at home, nope, never did, and gave it to me to finish

But, great finds everyone! I'm quite jealous ;)

Here is the cabinet I picked up last week for $50. I finally had a chance to get it out of the back of the truck. It is made by Remington-Rand. Drawers are smooth. I am resisting putting anything in it until I figure out it's final resting place or atleast get a mover's dolly mounted to it.

52Ford, that Shurehit part cabinet is a really cool piece of history. Nice find. I'm curious about the big Williams OE wrenches in the other box. Did this box belong to a pipe fitter or some certain skill trade? Did you get any history. I just purchased a Kennedy box this past week with all the same type of OE wrenches. I'm truing to figure out what trade the former owner was in and what these style wrenches are use for.
