Date code 6/73
Not bad $25 at local thrift store.

I've got two of those. Great old boxes.

Love those boxes. Ever thought about retro painting your HF 44 to match? I think that would be a pretty cool looking shop.
I agree there are great little boxes and not that expensive when you find them.

That's a great idea of the 44's. I never thought of that. Right now have my HF bench and my craftsmans bench.

I did closely match the red on the 44s when I repainted the Craftsmans. I got to repaint the new one to match others and change out the casters.

Beatcad asked that I post my Gerstner on this thread (from the Let's see your tool box thread). Apparently it has a Yale lock making it pre 1950's (I'm a Gerstner novice, so apologies for not knowing more detail).

Just picked up this Kennedy with side box at a garage sale for $50. I'm guessing the guy was in his late 60's and said that his father had purchased it new. Any ideas on date of mfg?

I'd guess 70's. I have basically the same box, but mine has older style drawer pulls and red krinkle finish. Based on info here, I date mine to the 50's. Kennedy used the drop fronts into the 80's and still.uses the drawer pulls.

Two new/old boxes added to my stable this week. A really old "Kennedy Kits" box with leather handle and lots of dents to fix. It was definitely a working mans box and saw a lot of job use.

Next is this Craftsman Roller, Made in USA and I think 1988. It has a folding side table, all the original keys, and an extra sliding drawer insert tray in one drawer.

Found this one locally, a very low mileage GRAY from the eighties, so the seller sez. Looks very much like a Kennedy with a Gray sticker. $20 brought it home.

Never heard of the brand Gray but I agree it looks a lot like a Kennedy of the era. A very nice big box for the money. Good score.

Outlaw..... You have to find one of these, I'm not sure why they didn't catch on. Its a great design, I planned on selling it eventually but it is just..... Practical? I love simplicity, and snap on nailed it with this box.

No clue with the lighting and re-paint, but WL made boxes for Sears for decades, so...

Nice save. I'm still trying to get the drop cover hinge freed up on a late 40's early 50's 3 drawer top A neighbor gave me two weeks ago.

Picked this up at salvation army for $8. A 1950ish Craftsman Machinist Box. It is in nearly perfect condition. Even the drawer felt is in good condition. It is tremendously dirty but it will clean up fine. The last pic shows the back where I tested some degreasers. Only brake cleaner or acetone worked well.

Just wanted to share my favorite Craftsman chest. The top was my dad's box, the middle I found on eBay and the bottom I sourced off Craigslist. A bit of simple green and scrubbing, and they are all clean now. I'm a bit OCD so I have to have a matching set :)

I dont think I've posted these yet. The first Craftsman I don't have a date for, but I'm gonna guess late 60's? A buddy that owns a muffler shop was bitchin' that he needed more drawer space. Now, Franks a good guy and has done several things like replacing my muffler pipes from the tip back to the Flowmaster (which he installed 12 years ago before I knew him) at no charge, welded some boxes for me, at no charge, things like that, now it was my chance to pay him back. So, this is what I found and this is what I did with it.

This is a set I picked up months ago. The top is a '49 3 drawer, which I know from restoring another just like it a couple of years ago. Notice the difference in shade on the cover door. Gives me a good idea of the original color. This job will have to wait till the move is over and I'm in my new garage.

That's a nice gift you gave him. That older set looks pretty sweet there.

I'm not sure how "vintage" vintage is.. so I'll post a few of my hip tool boxes and see what you all think..

First is a Blue Grass by Belknap..

Second is a semi vintage Craftsman.. Handle is solid aluminum. Haven't figured out what to do with this particular one yet. I had one just like this from the late 1970s, that my dad "requisitioned" when I was away at college..

Both of these were purchased at an auction last year, cleaned up and put back to active duty..

Have you tried Gerstner? I suspect they'll help.. May not be a perfect match.. but.. better than an empty hole.. Mine needs a mirror, and I know they have replacements.. just haven't gotten around to it / priorities...

They both should be stamped. The craftsman on the back side of the drawer that had the badge on it (recessed oval shaped portion).

The matco should be stamped on either the bottom frame rail or the back. That looks like a nice box for a scrap yard find. Those are a very heavy built box. I'd guess very late 70's to very early 80's. Something like MB1000, can't recall off the top of my head the model number atm.

That Craftsman is probably early 1960's with that metal handle, nice find!
