VFD's output is ONLY 3 phase & can only be used with 3Ø motors, 3 HP & smaller drives can be bought w/ single phase input & do not require derating, ones that can take either 1Ø or 3Ø inputs will require derating & it will be closer to 50% so would have to use a drive double the HP of the motor, which can get sticky because you have to size the wiring to 125% of the max input of the drive.
Sorry I misread the product page. The series specs mentioned single or three phase and it didn't dawn on me they meant the input.
I am currently using a Yaskawa VFD (3 phase input) with 220 single phase input to power my 3 phase Bridgeport mill. It is done all the time. Visit the "practical machinist" web site, they have a good section on vfd drives.

You connect youe (2) 220v single phase wires to L1 and L2 and
do not connect anything to L3. Connect your ground to the chassis ground.
They do accept single pahse or three phase input ,
They do not output single phase - unless the are broke.

Yes indeed READ the spec for the specific model not just the series. The specific model states three phase input.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. Operating it out of its design parameters is often not a really good idea.
Don't take this as a personal shot, as it isn't, but how often have we heard what a ************* something is, only to find out it was not being used as actually designed. Experimentation is always a good thing and a great learning experience, but since the OP was asking questions about a specific device, the design specs make a good starting point.
