Wrapped and ready for concrete, pouring 6 am tomorrow.

Poured long enough footers for lift to allow me final adjustment on position later:

Since the shop has not started framing yet, I'm relegated to enjoying pictures of the attached garage on the house. I'm ready to get this house nonsense over with so they can start on the shop!

The house framing is just about finished, so we should be starting on the garage later this week. The good news is I got trusses!

Wow, gonna be a gorgeous setup.

So I'm curious. It looks like the rafters are super tall, creating the peaked roof. But there is no useable space inside there. Being in Alabama, you don't need the snow load. Is it just for the look of it or ??

Thank you. Ceiling in center bay goes up to 14 feet. Roof pitch is aesthetic to match the home I am building there as well, and to meet neighborhood covenants, so the roof gets high. Trusses were the less expensive way to build this one. I will not have an "attic" up there, but plan to build some opening and doors along the sides of the 4 foot tray created by the higher center ceiling, for storage of larger parts and pieces.

So...decent progress this week. There was a lot more bracing to be done with the trusses than I expected, so that ate up a day or 2. The sheathing is all done, peel and stick is on the roof, the eaves framed (except the peaks), and most of the front and rear overhangs are completed.

Here is the view from the bonus room over the house garage:

And a view from the backyard:

Here is the rear view:

And the inside from each of the garage doorways:

To solve the problem of no attic space, I am thinking about framing in the rear 4 trusses and adding some doors to the front of that area. That would give me a 14ft wide x 6 foot deep x 4.5 foot high space I could access with a ladder. Any input from you garage gurus on this idea, or any others? Something like this:

I hate to sound greedy, but damn now that I see it up I wish I had figured out a way to make it 3 bays.

House too, here is the back view of it...the shop sits just to the right of where I am standing to take this.

So let's talk cabinets. I have spoken with Bald Head and they seem like great guys with a good product. But I need opinions. Other cabinet makers I need to consider, any experiences good or bad from the forum members on Bald Head or others? Suggestions, things to make sure I consider or lessons learned?

I did look at Gladiator and not really what I am looking for. Stronghold and Lista, great stuff but feels too industrial for my garage. New Age seems like a possible option but I keep coming back to Bald Head.

I have the usual car/mechanic storage needs, have an LED TV to put somewhere, and also want a cabinet to house all of my fishing rods, tackle, accessories, and my hunting camo/gear. Here is a picture of what I have available. I want to do the back wall, maybe one cabinet right of the window, and around the left wall.

Why not have a look at what IKEA has to offer. All my cabinets are from IKEA and I'm very pleased with the result so far. Quality is good for an affordable price and lots of stuff to configure or modify

Thanks Bimmer, interesting thought I had not considered, I took a look and they are not quite what I am looking for.

I have no input on cabinets. My input on your project is, it's awesome.

Appreciate that!

I have bald head cabinets. Very nice great people to deal with

I just went and looked through your garage pics...very nice. Yours are the color combo I am considering also. Eric is working me up a configuration to review now.

Checking in on awesoneness

Thanks!

Focus has certainly been on the house, and the shop has been languishing. We have trimmed out the garage, and it is ready for paint. I have ordered my lift from Bendpak, and Bald Head is working on my cabinets out in Oregon. I hope to have both in 6 weeks or so.

That "biblical rain" I have been reading about that hit Arkansas is headed this way, so this weekend was spent doing the final grade behind the shop and laying out curlex fabric and getting sod thrown this morning to hold the slope. I hope it holds or its $4k down the drain (literally). Here is the covered slope behind the shop:

Final grade had been brought up to the lawnmower/bike door:

Inside, the loft is ready for the barn door track hardware, and the baseboards and window trim is kinda in (the rest is waiting til after fitting the cabinets):

The view entering my office, window glass is on order:

And on the main house garage, we are finishing up the brick facing on the cinder blocks.

Now, for the not so fun part. I have my decorator suggesting a color combination for the walls. So in the pic below on the right are the colors of the Baldhead Cabinets, black and gunmetal gray. The floor will likely be a black/grey chip epoxy, the lift is black.

On the left is her suggestion, a gray on bottom, 4-6 inch red stripe (its a darker red than this picture catches), a lighter gray on top. She also suggested just a tiny amount of red chips in the floor to bring in the walls. I just am not sold on RED in my garage, or the stripe concept. I am thinking just pick one of the grays and go with it. Or do the bottom gray on the walls and the top, lighter gray on the ceiling.

It feels silly to be talking about all this decorating and picking colors in a shop...but I guess I need to.

Here is where you guys HELP?!?!

I did get to spend some time at Cruisin' the Coast this weekend over in Biloxi and picked up some pencil art for the walls and a couple of other decorating doo-dads. (And I am going to look at a 57 Thunderbird project I found in a barn in Mississippi to decorate the big area, but I really am not a huge fan of the car and would just be doing it to turn it).
