Anyone looking at generators need to check out Champion. Their prices are good (maybe not as good as HF) but they stock all of the parts in the US !

They sell a 3100 watt (peak, 2800 watt continuous) inverter generator at a fraction of what Honda and Yamaha sell their same size generators for.

Did a test run today with no problems. I had this panel and plug put in on Friday. I ran most of the house and the furnace. The power will never go out again!

i purchased a champion at farm and fleet for about 260.00 I never used it but my father in law has been using it a bunch on his farm. he seems happy.

Having a genset is cheap insurance that you'll never need it. Just make sure you exercise it regularly. With e fuel you have to run it regularly.

I make sure to run ethonal free fuel in my stuff and stabil it. It gets fresh gas once a year and an oil change after it gets used continually. Last time mine was used was irene but i sure was glad I had one.

I really need to look into the ins and outs of a plug outside.

The main is the 200 amp disconnect from the pole. The generator 30 amp is what the generator is rated for. Turn the main off and generator on. Feeds the box in the house.

Have a Champion 3500 in the race trailer. Used it a lot this year to run the AC and whatnot. Great thing to have around. The HF units get good reviews, I just caught the Champion on sale as TSC for $299. Then used a TSC coupon to get the wheels. A long RV power cord and some plugs was almost half the generator price!

You need an interlock on those breakers so you can not back feed to the grid. Your install is not up to code and if the power company discovers it they can (and will) disconnect you until it is corrected.

I brought this up and was told with the new breakers can not back feed. I see what you are saying. It needs to be idiot proof.

If your ever plan on selling your house, it is highly likely that it will FAIL an inspection, by the buyer or his mortgage company, without an interlock.
