Notice the "USA" conspicuously missing from the pictures on the website. Click to zoom and you can see where someone Pshopped them out. These went to China some time ago.

OTOH, if you find USA in your store buy them all!

They are lobster claws but nice for the price i guess. I went in and checked them out. Would have got some had they not been. My sears has them listed in add but not marked in store.

When I asked about these.......both through the sears.com chat and through the 800 number, I was assured that they were made in USA!. Of course, when I got them.......China. UGH!

Called sears.com customer service..........they aren't even trying anymore.......they just told me to keep them and sent me a refund.

New terminology being used. I saw it says "unlimited warranty" rather then the usual 'lifetime warranty'. Wonder if that translates to any change?

lol. That means the way they handle warranties from now on is unlimited in what they can do or not do. Pretty clever of their legal dept..

I'd say that 2 or 3 of the American tool co's should band together and buy the Craftsman name and logo, divy up production based on each co's specialties, and then sell online. And have tool trucks that will go to every Jiffy Lube, car repair shop, and HVAC company from Timbucktoo to Maine.

I'd have to wonder if the name is worth anything, after you consider the liability of warranty expenses. I like to see a lifetime warranty on the tools I buy. I like to have my broken tools warranted without question, but that policy opens the doors to abusers who use the "100% satisfaction guaranteed" warranty to get tools replaced due to cosmetic blemishes, imperfect chrome, or rust.

It's pretty common for companies when reformed after bankruptcy, to not honor the previous "company's" warranty.

A little off topic but as much as I like Sears they have Quit. I went in yesterday to pick up an order and noticed several miss priced items. I picked up a 5" Craftsman vise with a sign stating $37.99 when I got to the counter it rang up $79.99. When I corrected the older salesperson he still ran it up at $34.99. He did not question it or check the sign. As I returned later after I loaded up the vise in my Van, no one had taken down the sign. So for those that judge the customer and see Sears as the victim you have it wrong. If Sears wants to go out of business by mismanagement, what I am going to do about? :dunno::willy_nil

That's a great price, I was all set to order the metric set when I remembered the 11 piece long pattern set I'd been considering at Harbor Freight. Right now they are the same price with a 20% off coupon and you get two extra wrenches. I've always loved Craftsman but in my opinion the HF wrenches are of similar quality, the COO is the same, and there are no questions about how to warranty them in the future.

:dunno:

Sorry Craftsman, I would have happily paid your full asking price for a USA set but if you are going to try and compete with HF you're going to have to sell them even cheaper...

I would think craftsman china is better than hf china? Most of their wrenches I've seen that are polished are different thickness, boxed enend very thick and sometimes not punched on center.

Craftsman and Kenmore are separate entities and are not apart of Sears. Even if the latter goes bankrupt they'll still exist. They've been branching out the Craftsman brand for a reason (Tru-Value, Summitt, Grainger etc..).

From Wikipedia (admittedly not the definitive source on anything but it supports my argument so I'll use it):

"Kenmore Appliances is a brand of household appliances sold by Sears since 1927."

"Craftsman is a line of tools, lawn and garden equipment, and work wear controlled by Sears Holdings."

So somewhere inside Sears is an employee who is the Craftsman brand manager. (S)he likely has a bunch of people working from him who procure, buy, brand and market everything Craftsman inside and outside the Sears organization. Same for Kenmore.

If Sears goes bankrupt Craftsman and Kenmore are assets that could be sold off just like anything else the company owns.

Craftsman, Kenmore, and Diehard are apart of KCD IP, LLC which is in turn controlled by Sears Holdings which includes Kmart (not just Sears). My point is if Sears itself goes bankrupt those brands are unaffected other than losing that distribution chain, they don't go down with the ship.

That definitely used to be the case but it seems like they've improved their quality in the last few years, my son has a set of their polished wrenches and they are better looking than some newer Craftsman raised panel wrenches that I have. Only time will tell how long they will hold up but he's been using them for a year with no noticeable wear.

I have a full set of hf raised panel all the way to 2 1/8. Once you get past 3/4 they don't fit very well. The 1 1/8 and 1 1/4 don't fit on any compressor or bottle fittings I have. Open end is way too large and the box ends are tooo tight to get on most flare x pipe adapter fitttings

I'm not familiar with the term "lobster claw" - what is that?

I wonder what the strategy is behind that? Clearly those are the family jewels - the last remaining brands that set Sears (Kmart) apart from any other department store. I wonder if it was some sort of half-assed way of sharing the assets with Kmart? Or a way to separate the good from the bad to make it easier to borrow money against the good?

It's thicker metal around the open end appearing like a lobster's claw.

S-K honors most warranty items after their bankruptcy in 2010, so I'm saving my money for S-K tools now. :)

Thanks. The regular ones are that way too. Time to upgrade, and I'll sell off the other ones for damn-near this much anyway. My Sears store has several in stock. I'm headed over there now to pick some up. It's a decent deal for what they are.

The new raised panels no longer have the lobster claws but the finish on them is horrible. Looks like chrome Spray paint...probably is

Just got back, bought the last two sets they had in both SAE and metric. The finish on them is actually pretty good. I was apprehensive until I actually saw them for myself. Of course they're not as nice as Snap-On or Macs, but they'll work fine for my needs.

All total, $85 after tax for 36 chrome wrenches. And the warranty stamp on the packages states, "Lifetime Warranty". No other phrase, as stated in a previous post.
