Is it USA, or a re-badged Gearwrench at three times the price? :wtf:

Sounds interesting! Pics would be greatly appreciated.

I have the MAC super short sockets but a thin Dual80 would be nice. 3/8 drive, I suppose?

Damn, and I thought I was done buying ratchets for a while... :D

Man I came so close yesterday to buying the metric set he had. I think it wads around 150 but I really wanted the new 3/8 impact. But it is dual 80 and has super short sockets with it. I did not see where it was made though. If it is USA I will have it the next time I see my snap on man hopefully.

so was the ratchet also low profile, or just the sockets?
I don't want any more snap on stuff either.

I saw it last week but don't remember the part #. It is USA according to the package - I checked. Price was almost $190 for metric sockets and ratchet. If no one posts a picture by then I'll take a snap tomorrow as SO guy is bringing something (hopefully). It's not on web site yet.

Handle is flat not the typical SO profile and guts are held in with a thin metal plate/snap ring like the CMan/Danaher stuff.

This seems to me to have all the makings of one of those SO highly sought after pieces in years to come. It's unusual, has limited use, very expensive and likely won't be around long because it's so specialized.

 You've seen one... :)

So, is it 3/8? And it's SO and not Bluepoint? Looking forward to a pic.

Pics of a ban.

Yes, the one I saw was 3/8 I'd go crazy for a 1/4 version. It is a real solid head ratchet, not the pass through variety, which I neglected to mention in the last post. It is branded SO, not BP.

I'll get a pic tomorrow if SO shows up (I do expect him though as I ordered some $tuff) if no one has posted one by then.

If its just a low profile ratchet, what makes it so specialized? Seems like it would very useful.

The sockets are real short and the ratchet head is real thin, Come in a open blow molded case. It is made in USA snap-on brand, And is friggen awsome

Any clue if you can get just the ratchet? Or will they make us wait for that? I have short sockets already...

Ok, it says:

Regular 3/8" ratchets don't fit for these applications.

A lot of fasteners are on cast parts with limited access, where ratcheting wrenches don't fit and thin-walled, short sockets are needed.

Characteristics and advantages:

- Special ratchet and sockets with a low profile for extremely tight quarters

- Up to 33% less tall than comparable ratchets

- Dual80 technology for high torque and many teeth

- Flat grip for working in difficult to reach areas

- Thin-walled sockets for good access

- Works even where traditional 3/8" ratchets and sockets don't work anymore

I don't need an extra thin ratchet; if I need something that thin, I'll use a wrench. And I sure as hell wouldn't buy that before I bought my first 80 series!! :)

New cars must lots of limited access locations if you need to have that ratchet and socket set. Seems like my frustration 3 lb might come out to help gain some access:bounce:

You're welcome.

I talked with my Snappy guy this morning and he didn't have a clue
about the set. I gave him the part number of the set and asked
him to see if he can get the ratchet by itself. I'll let you know what
he comes up with...

Here's a question: is that 3/8" shorter than normal???

So one can't use regular sockets on it?

Maybe THETOOLMAN can answer that. Will the ratchet work with standard length sockets?

If the male square drive is shorter than normal, that would be important to know.

What irritates me is that I brought this up before in another thread (how much strength is lost if the drive end is shorter) and some guys poo-pooed the idea. Now snap on comes out with one, and I get no credit:confused:

Part number for ratchet by itself is RAF80 and it costs $69.
I couldn't resist.... :D

thanks for the info. I actually don't think that price is that bad. How convenient that snap on didn't have a lower profile head when they originally came out with the dual 80's....

If they start making this low profile head with different handles and flex heads, that would really ****
