Finally broke down as well. Purchased it through the shopyourway.com site because they currently have a promotion for $15 back on $50 purchase. It is on their homepage, and the details don't say anything regarding exclusions for hotbuys like all their other coupons.

Here are the details:

It's a "points credit" though, so hit and miss on whether you'll ever get them. It's like rolling the dice with every sears purchase! Plus, says you have to redeem them 11/24-11/29... just a heads up. Still $15 in points if you get to use them.

Thanks OP and to those who posted updates on reduced price.

I've wanted one of these for a while but was too cheap. Got one for $31.76 delivered thanks to some forgotten points.

Thanks OP for the tip. I've been wanting one of these for a long time and this was a great price. I got free shipping by combining with the 3/4" drive metric socket set mentioned on another thread.

One oddity: there was an insert label in mine describing the 40-piece set. But this is clearly the 48-piece set. Goofy Sears. :lol_hitti

for the guys who got the craftsman set what do the dies and files have stamped into them? I just ordered another one, I have the Mac version and the files are stamped MAC in the middle, the handles are silk screened also. I know the snap-op is the same way. Is there a craftsman stamp on these? I got this , along with a 21mm and 1 1/16" craftsman professional usa for 39 shipped thanks to more surprise points if I spent 75 or more.... Can't seem to get any points back coupons to work though since the pre black Friday stuff started.

Which Portland store did you pick up this set. I'm in the area and want to take a look at one.... thx

I picked it up at the Lloyd Center Sears. I believe there was one more set left. FYI, the Happy Valley location didn't have anything. No tap sets, etc.

I bought the exact same set from Snappy about 5 years ago.
Paid alot more than the Sears price today.

(exact same set)

I like the snap on tools I've got, but this scenario is one thing I hate about them. Relabeled products for 300% markup. Their label on it doesn't add any value to it, but they'll mark it up none the less. That is a ripoff. Because of things like this, I have to take extra time to research each purchase to make certain I won't be getting ripped off.

BUT YOU CAN FINANCE IT FOR 300 WEEKS!! Jk. It just hammers home the buyer beware of some of snap-on's not mainline products. It ***** you can't trust it though.

I have read that snap on actually covers the dies with their warranty, so to be fair, they are adding some value to the product by putting their name on it.

I've had my set about a year, and I don't use it terribly frequently (maybe twice a month), so it's doubtful I'll ever wear out enough bits to have benefited from the warranty. I have determined if I use a particular size often enough to actually ever wear it out, I'll buy that individual bit from SO so subsequently worn out ones will be warranted. It's been a long time since I looked, but the individual bits were actually fairly priced on their website.

they do, so does MAC but you can also buy them very cheaply from both. I had my mac kit I want to say close to 8 years now... never broke one, did lose a small 1/4-20 die, the replacement from mac was like 2 bucks.

Bought two sets of the thread restorer sets. Very happy with the quality, other than the case is so slippery on the bottom it wants to slide everywhere. Took some duck tape and installed 3 strips 2 layers deep on the bottom, now it can sit on a workbench w/o sliding all over the place.

Man! They sold out! I was so exited to get home and use a gift card to order them.

Horribly disappointed. :(

I ordered some kant twist clamps from Enco last week when they had the 30% off. Some of them had threads that were buggered up. I used thisMcMahon kit and massaged the screw threads into proper shape. They worked out quite well. I'm a happy camper and timing couldn't have been better.

So this kit is the same that snap on sells? Are the so pieces stamped snap on?

Can anyone explain how to use the files?

First use a thread gauge to figure out the exact thrad pitch. For example 3/8 is likely to be 16 tpi unless it is a fine pitch which is not likely. Now find the Sae file and find the side that is stamped 16. Take the file over the damaged threads gently and they should be massaged into shape. This restores the threads unlike taps and dies will cut threads.

Clear as mud?

There is a photo of a Snap-On marked one around somewhere.
