Changed all 20 4' T8 bulbs. I'm tired of buying them two or four at a time.

At first it thought " those two look O/K - i'll save them " and then when i saw the brightness of all new ones ....

This standard daylight time *****. By the time I get home from work I only have about an hour and a half of daylight left. I like Daylight Savings Time. I also really like the temparatures we have been having for the first part of December here lately, upper 50's and even low 60's a couple of days.

Last night I got home from work and hurried and ran around my lawn one last time with the lawnmower to not only mow the grass but to give a final mulch of all of the neighbor's leaves that end up in my yard. After mowing the lawn I blew the remaining leaves into a large pile and filled my garbage can.

I then did an end of season cleaning of the lawnmower, line trimmer and leaf blower. This included not only cleaning the lawn equipment but lubing the pivot points, cleaning the air filters on the equipment and removing all grass debris. I also removed the blade from the mower, sharpened and balanced it and cleaned the underside of the mower deck. I also sucked the oil out of the mower and put fresh oil in so it is ready for spring.

Our old Snapper 21" mower has held up well and other than a few minor repairs over the years it is still going strong. I purchased it new in 1991 when my wife and I bought our home and put our yard in.

The stickers didn't last long on the engine as they didn't want to stick to the plastic engine cover very well.

All of the deck stickers and emblems are still in place and just a few scratches on the side of the deck where it rubs against the side of my concrete patio. Other than that she is in pristine condition for a 23-year old mower.

I also performed the end of season cleaning, inspection and maintenance on my 10-year old Homelite line trimmer. Other than replacing the small plastic nut on the underside of the line reel that gets bumped against the surface this has been a trouble free unit as well.

I think tonight I am going to check the engine over and check valve adjustment and then put away until it is needed in the spring.

How well does your Snapper bag with that grass tunnel? I have a Craftsman Professional 21" elect. start, self propelled. The top dollar mower from Sears. It has a grass tunnel like your Snapper but it gets clogged real easy. It gets aggravating to mow with it. It was bought about the same time as yours. I'm about to give up on it and by a Toro or something similar as long as the grass comes out the back of the mower. Any suggestions?

Right after purchasing it I bought the mulching kit which came with a mulching blade and a plastic "plug" for the grass tunnel. I haven't used the bag for the past 20+ years. but I don't recall it not bagging well. To me it just seemed senseless to pay to have my yard sprayed and then bag it and throw it away. I also mow twice a week in the seasonal months as it keeps the grass clipping small so they decompose faster and don't buildup around the yard.

Cleaned out the barn today with a new Milwaukee M18 Blower, boy that thing looks small but does some serious air movement, installed new rod Holders on the aircraft carrier, hung up grass spreaders to get them off the floor.

My 70's era snapper bagged well. My dad's personal pace Toro also bags well. Of course, if your idea of lawn mowing involves waiting until you can' t see out the windows of your house, then mowing the day after 2" of rain fell, you're probably gonna have a bad time.....

I know what you mean about mowing tall grass. I have several yards to maintain and I'm mowing them once a week. I had a Weed Eater mower from Walmart that had the bagger out the rear of the mower and it didn't matter how tall the grass was it bagged like crazy. This high dollar Sears has the grass tunnel that comes out the side and up into the bag like the Snapper. I keep the blade sharp and the deck clean but it still clogs up. I thought the tunnel might be too small. Mom bought this mower because of the elect. start and self propelled. She did her own yards back then. I didn't want to just give up on her mower if there was something I could do with it. Thought maybe someone else has the same problem. The next mower I get will have the rear bagger on it. Any suggestions??

Had a neighbor call me to see if I could look at their son's 98 Explorer. He was home from college for the holidays and he explained that when he pulled in the driveway there was a terrible noise coming from the undercarriage.

I really didn't want to take anything else on this close to the holidays as I have some things that I want to do but seeing as how their son and our son grew up together in the neighborhood I thought I would be nice and neighborly and take a look at it, plus I could use a few extra bucks around the holidays.

I heard them pull up in my front driveway and I was in my shop in the backyard WITH the door closed, that was how bad the noise was. I pulled it around into the shop and cringed at the sound and the vibration that was being emitted from the rear end.

After getting it on the lift and tearing into it I was amazed he drove this home a couple hundred miles. I didn't think it was going to make it from the driveway to the shop. I asked if it just started doing that and the kid told me it was making a noise and vibrating for a couple of months. HOLY ****!!!! A couple of months??????

The pinion bearings were shot and the seal was gone. I pulled the differential cover off and all that came out with some scraping was a burnt sludge. The ring and pinion teeth were toast. Although none were actually missing completely, they were a lot smaller than they started out. The outer axle shaft and carrier bearings still spun but they had some pretty yellow and blue colors on them.

I am going to call a few salvage yards today to try to locate a complete drop in axle to save them a few bucks. Although I would rather rebuild it and make sure it is done properly, plus I could probably make a few bucks more, but I am sure they don't have any extra money kicking around.

That's very kind of you to help them out, especially so close to the holidays. I hope you find an axle for them  and I hope your job goes smoothly!

Thanks. I think I found one today, just waiting to hear back a confirmed gear ratio before I commit. I also want to run it past the owner once I have a definitive answer on the gearing.

I hope they appreciate it, sometimes I worry about getting used parts because IF there turns out to be a problem down the road, most people will loooooonnnnnggg forget the fact that I was trying to help them save some money. They will only remember that I worked on it and it is now having problems, that's all they will remember. It makes me very nervous to do things this way for that reason.

55 degrees today up here at 8000ft in Colorado. Have the polar ice caps melted yet?

I got the floor extension into the Sprinter's doorway completed:

For the person that was asking about a build thread - there is one located on adventure rider: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=715683

(I hope that it is ok to cross post the link - adventure rider is a motorcycle forum that has no advertising on it so it shouldn't be a conflict of interest?)

cheers,
Ed

Added features to my basement utility sink. Third pict (inside sink) shows two new tapped holes / fittings. Lower right goes to a collector for the humidifier and water softener backflush and overflows. Upper left is a backup overflow that routes to the main drain that goes to the main sump. This utility sink has its own sump that is plumbed to the home drainage / sewer. The overflow is a backup incase the sink sump goes kaput.

Nearly got the rear axle swapped out on the Ford Exploder that I am working on. I hope trying to do someone a favor doesn't bite me in the ***.

Bodywork and metal filler on a pair of 1968 Barracuda hood inserts ... always pitted and hours of work, these are no exception but they're in better shape than most I've done. I'll show them off when I get them finished (another 5-color powder job when they're done).

Twinpack, as you can see, I fixed the PB links in your post. I'm not sure what you posted but next time, copy/paste the IMG on the right side under "share links". If you still have issues, let know and I'll see if I can help.

Made some bracket arms for a steel rack.

Tried to diagnose the cause of multiple cylinders misfiring and a misfire on cylinder one (both codes) on my dodge neon. Haven't narrowed it down yet, but know a couple more things that aren't the cause.

Probably not your problem, but those engines used to be notorious for lunching rocker arms.
