I need about 3200 sq ft of insulation for the walls and ceiling of the garage I am building. About half of that is for the walls and the other half for the ceiling. My studs are on 2 ft centers and trusses on 4 ft centers. I asked for a quote for both 23" and 47" wide X 3 1/2 " thick unfaced batts and received a quote of $.35 sq ft.. But they do not sell 47" and said I could use the 23" double wide. The price is about 20% less than Lowes and Home Depot prices.
My question is, is this common to use double wide 23" between trusses in ceilings. I am using some salvaged blue board on the top truss chords so the 3 1/2 inch will be adequate for my needs.
Also just to make sure, I am planning on installing tin on the ceiling, so should I use faced or unfaced batts and if faced I assume the facing should be on the bottom?
