Hey guys I need a set of open ended crow feet and am wondering if there are any that I should look out for I've seen the snap on one's and they don't have fd+ open end so what I'm wondering if they are much better than others out there. I found a set of Allen USA at a local pawn shop for about 40 bucks wondering if these a
would be good quality.

If you want FD+ the only ones on the market I'm aware of are Proto. My coworker has them and they're awesome. I have SK and they're fine. I don't have any Allen tools but I think they were just APEX USA (or maybe Danaher? one of those companies anyway) so should be fine also, $40 seems high for a used set though.

Well they weren't new and 40 bucks seemed good compared to snap on for 200. The set is 10-19. Kinda looked like NOS were stamped usa.

Have u used them much yet if so how are they? I'm thinking the Allen set would be ok. It's not an all day everyday type tool like a 10mm socket is.

Get the $10 HF ones and re-shape them on the grinder, better than anything you'd get on the truck. Crows feet are one of those convenience tools that are rarely used/needed. Never been in a situation where I needed a premium crows foot over a cheap one.

I have a gray set for 1" and under. I got the sunnex in the 1" -2" range however I regret the purchase as they are way to thick to fit in many tight spots. For the larger wrenches I regret not getting the set from atd that a coworker had. May be 30% more than the sunnex but they are much more versatile.

I have a metric set of flare crowfoot sockets from NAPA, Evercraft brand. Came in handy when replacing power steering line on my Dodge RAM.

The Masterforce crowfoot have been discontinued at Menards. They list crescent crowfoot sets on their website now.

I have SK standard and Wright metric. Both seem just fine, but for the amount I actually use them, I think I overpaid.I would think something like Allen would be about the same. That set of Menard USA ones look like a winner to me.

Don't buy those, absolute garbage. I've only successfully used them once without spreading one. I needed to torque a bolt to 18 ft-lbs where a crowsfoot was the only thing that would work and it couldn't do it. Everyone on this forum recommends cheap crowsfeet but never again.

If you ever have trouble with any of our stuff contact me or write in. They shouldn't be spreading at that low of a torque value. Shoot me an email with a picture and address and I'll get you taken care of.

Unfortunately Menards blew out a bunch of their USA Masterforce brand items a Few months ago to make shelf space for the new Crescent product line. (New to Menards) Flare nut wrenches, crow foot wrenches, double box end wrenches, etc, etc are now gone from Menards. The only thing they sell now is sockets, ratchets and combination wrenches. Sad to see USA tools disappear off the shelves to make room for more China junk....

They discontinued the flare nut wrenches? It doesn't show them as a discontinued item on the website, still lists several in both sae and metric at my local store on their website. It would kinda **** for me if they are discontinued b/c I bought both sets a while ago and hopefully I wouldn't have to warranty any of them...

I really like to avoid this tool if at all possible, it is really "iffy" - if you are in a situation where you are forced to use a crowsfoot, try with all of your imagination and perseverance to use a flare-nut crowsfoot instead, you will thank me one day!

Sometimes it just won't work, though. First example that comes to mind are hydraulic hoses where the nut is smaller than the crimp sleeve. Recently ran into this on an old bobcat.

I bought they Masterforce metric set from Menards when they were on clearance for $9.99. The 19mm was worth every penny for torquing the inner tie rod jam nut on my ATV.

I have no issues with Allen tools. I have both Allen, KD and Easco (all the same company/forging plant) wrenches and sockets and have no issues with them.

Buy the Allen's and don't look back or sweat it. I have long discontinued Bonney's and have never worried about it. The Allen brand is no different, just buy 'em.

I'll send you a picture tomorrow at work, I don't need another set (I already replaced them with some better ones) but if it helps you guys improve your product

After owning those however, if you're actually going to use them (most won't), don't buy the imported ones at least in the small sizes. Maybe okay over 1 1/2" or so :dunno: It's not for a lack of material as they are plenty bulky but the quality just isn't there and they spread.

Those Masterforce sets look remarkably similar to my SK :headscrat Same profile and slight bow where they're stamped, hmm... OP, I would buy the Allen set if you need them.

the only ones ive never been able to spread open were SO.
most of mine are 3/8" dr ( up to 1 1/4") they are much thinner and the head is much smaller than the 1/2" dr.

i've pulled on them with 24" ratchets and breaker bars, had impacts on them trying to "rattle loose" hoses & tubelines, several of them are nearly 30 years old, and have never been broken.

on most of the const eq i work on, a flare nut wrench or crowsfoot wont get the job done.
the exception is HP fuel injection lines.

Apparently, I have the magic unicorn set of Craftsman raised panel open end and combination wrenches, as mine have never "spread" in any situation!

I got a really cheap set of blackhawk usa off eBay. From the little I have used them they work great. Don't look very impressive, but I'm fine with that.

The craftsman industrial ones (armstrong I think) are good. Don't know if they're "cheap". Otherwise this is one of the items where it's better to get something professional if you use them a lot. Allen won't be any better than craftsman old stock regular and harder to warranty. Better than harbor freight though.

I have a few, but I only bought them as needed so they're not a set. I use them mostly for hydraulics and air plumbing on heavy duty trucks. They're really, really useful around air compressors on garbage trucks where everything's piled tight inside a frame rail; I can get around a lot of dis-assembly with them.

I've found you want a reputable brand. Besides being made of inferior material, the cheaper ones are typically too big to go where needed and don't fit as tight. Mine are Mac, Snap-On, and Armstrong. The Snap-Ons are probably the best, being a little smaller than the others, but I'd recommend them all. If I had to guess, that Allen set would probably do the job just fine.
