Do these things have any sort of third party safety marks on them?

I looked quickly today and I didnt see anything.I am assuming you mean like UL listing or something similar.

On another note...I cut about 10-12 feet of 14 gauge today on my first project....a front dump bucket on my John Deere 318. I started getting good cuts after a bit more practice. Very good cuts: This is .075

Look it up on Alibaba.com and then go for the group buy. I'd say 95% that is where your ebayer is buying them from.

I bought a powdercoat gun from China via Alibaba. I had it in 24 hours, it was nuts how fast it got it here.

The eBay listing states "ISO9002 CE, CCC" ISO 9002 was superseded way back so I don't know if that holds water anymore. CE is the European compliance standards and CCC is, as I understand it, Chinese compliance standard. FWIW

I know I would be interested in a Group Buy if the priced approached $100-150 delivered? Is anybody willing to dive in to the research/logistics of a Alibaba GB?

Thermal Dynamics IS Chinese and Malaysian and Japanese and....
Even the new Victor torches are China and no. The price didn't go down.

Thermal Dynamics makes the plasmas in their own plant in Mexico. Not long ago they were made in the US in the same city as Hypertherm.

Confirmed this with the dealer last Friday. Hypertherm is still made in the US but Thermal Dynamics is not. They went through a rebranding recently, falling under the name Victor Technologies. Just recently they were bought out by ESAB. Who knows what will happen next.

Got mine today, that was FAST! I'll pick up a plug this weekend and fire that bad boy up for y'all!

Edited: The one I ordered did not show a digital readout but like Hybridss, it came with one so these must be the new models. If you order one, pick up a 220v plug end and have it ready, the machine comes with a cord but no end.

I have been on the fence about buying one of these also. Price makes it pretty tempting.

Ok, I ordered mine last night. Pilot arc model with 18 consumables for $309 and the seller updated it to $319 right afterwards.

The price has drifted up to $310.

Meh.

Check all of the listings, he offers them with or without consumables and different configurations(D,F,etc). I'm sure he probably fluctuates prices as inventory changes or just sales strategies.

The price will fluctuate with the value of the USD as well as the fact that Chinas economy is evolving. I suspect they will only go up.

I'm in the same situation of indecision. I want to build a CNC table but do I go with a cheep cutter or get something more robust. Then again $300 is not too risky. I have also seen some really nice TIG welding from those Chinese 3 in one machines. But I have to keep my old technology Lincoln 175 to do Al.

I started looking at those 3in1 machines and started wondering about them also. Think the price was only $100 our so more and you add tig welding to it. Not that I can tig but I can try to learn.

Anyone have any experience with the 3in1 machines?

I'd be in for one if there is a group buy within the next month...

I just got back from Malaysia last week and have to go back to SE Asia again in January...too bad I couldn't bring them back with me somehow..otherwise I am going to try and buy one and bring it back as checked luggage if I can get a good price.

There are other models that are much less expensive. The same seller has them all the way down to $239. Some auctions include more/less consumables.

What has me confused are all the different models:

CUT50
CUT50D
CUT50F
CUT50R
CUT50DR

I'm pretty sure the D is for dual voltage - 115/230V.

I think the key would be to see if there are major brand consumables that fit this unit. If there are, then it's a great deal. If it fails, you can just buy a new one I guess since warranty could be interesting. If it was within the year, I think ebay should help back the buyer.

The "D" is a Digital Inverter and the "F" is for Pilot Arc. I'm pretty sure the "F" may be digital(if they mean display yes) but it has the Pilot Arc ability where the "D" does not. If you want to build a table later, you will need Pilot Arc, that means you don't have to drag the torch to start cutting, it will arc start.

Ok, here's the model info direct from the seller:

CUT50 works with 220V only
CUT50D works with 110V and 220V
CUT50R works with 220V only and has built in gauge
CUT50DR works with 110V and 220V and has built in gauge
CUT50F works with 220V only and is a pilot arc cutter

From what others have said it sounds like pilot arc is a feature worth having.
