Here is the surprise if anyone shows up again snooping around.

How many noticed it in prior pic?

I know there has been Bobcat, Mountain Lion and Javelina behind garage along with some very large birds.

Be interesting to see what camera shows after a week or so.

I think some razor wire on top of the wall would add some glitter to the beige, and if someone tries it out, a little red color too.

One day I need to put in the History Book's!

started off a typical day. I made a laughable day goal to get the cab mounted on chassis for first time. I could not explain how many hours it took to find the proper location prior, I was close before but just never worked out.

In any of the pics the cab was most likely on jack stands and not mounted.

Pretty early in day I had a huge power surge and it popped the main breaker that feeds the shop. Of course my computer backup~surge protector did not work, computer shut down and when I went to restart I find the hard drive got toasted and I pretty much lost well over 100,000 photo's and every other personal thing I had on the 1 Terabyte hard drive.

Of course the wife had important stuff on it too.

I am hoping there is a way to do a recovery of all that stuff!

And from there it just snowballed into the most . . . Day of my life.

Ok, At least the top 10!

Grab a chair and some popcorn as it goes ___________ from there.

Ever have one of those days?

Current rating on day is around #5 at the moment I can only think of 4 other days that may have topped it. After the shop power surge my brain completely shut down . .

Then when brain tried to start up something happened.

It's getting late now. 12:45 AM

Other computer crashed & now using the tiny laptop for my Ford IDS program.

I will start the story but gotta go . .

Just come back tomorrow around noon with the popcorn.

Betcha will not go for more popcorn when it runs out!

I wanted to do a bit of glass beading and realized the portable glass bead cart had gotten left in the rain. Of course the what was fresh 3 bags of new glass beads was all wet so it was spread out on the ground. We thought it would be funny to make a few small snowmen out of the wet glass beads. Got a good chuckle then realized there were Rainbow's showing up on the ground at our feet!

It was shortly after the Rainbow's that it all happened. . . .

Just kidding around I sent a few pics to friends and a couple to the wife saying we were making snowmen. Within minutes my youngest daughter who was not home sent a text to my wife asking if we had snow. My wife just laughed and said you better ask your dad assuming I had already told her. I had not.

Text to daughter.

Now comes the best part...

Well, what happened?

Timewarp - did you catch PowerNation/Truck Tech on Spike this morning? It was a new episode where they were swapping in an Ecoboost and 5-speed into a F100 ('55, I think). Ford Racing just sent them a production pre-production harness and controller that they claimed was run and tested at Ford, that includes a PCM, distribution box with relays and fuses, and ready for market.

I realize you probably don't need all this stuff because you have an entire donor vehicle, but I just thought this was pretty cool info, for everyone looking to swap in an Ecoboost.

My brothers shop got robbed, and they were siphoning fuel from the busses. the idiot practically had a trail back to his diesel pickup... You should hire a Navajo tracker.

Ok, love the snowmen and rainbows on a truck site! Really liked the daughter's response.

Sorry to hear about the bad day. I can't say I've not had some myself, but always a pain.

Have popcorn waiting for the "show".

Actually quite the opposite of what everyone is thinking. One of the best days of my life was yesterday.

For starters one of the perpetrators has been caught. Other will be soon.

Out with family more soon

As my last post the person has been caught.

Hope the popcorn is not all gone while waiting.

I have heard the saying "what a difference a day can make" or something like that.

Double checking stuff to make sure things were going to fit as planned.

This is the simple mod done to widen the rear cab opening around 6"

Next up it was time to sandblast the door jambs, edges and corners. Raised the cab up with the cherry picker on to the "box" stand to get some needed height.

More weight on the front of cab so the 55lb anvil and pieces from press worked as extra ballast.

Still have to finish welding and grinding along with a bit of trimming but the firewall and floor are pretty much in.

Cab & Chassis getting married.

I need to back up a bit. After pulling the chassis out of storage i gave it a much needed bath. Also finished up the fuel system lines etc.

High pressure line from pump to fuel regulator had to make the portion from tank to stainless line at evap canister. Installed the 3.5 Eco Fuel pump into the 27 gallon tank from a 126" WB truck

borrowing the PCM pocket from the '11 cab Installing it in '66 the PCM will be in stock location. No need to mess with wiring. Just plug and go.

It was now time to tear down the '11 dash assy and to use what I learned from cutting apart the junk yard dash. After a fairly quick teardown it was discovered . .

That with the few mods I learned the '11 dash will in fact work in the '66 Cab!

My helper for the week. Emory doing a test fit for room. He is 5'8" or so and over 200lbs

Dash for sure looks a bit different in there but we got it to work!

Not sure which position the power seat is in but there is much much more room now than in a stock '66.

Awesome! This stuff is so cool, but looking at that bundle of hoses and wires makes my head spin :S I'd have no clue where to begin with a project of this magnitude. I love reading about it though and I admire those that have the skills to pull it off. Good job----I'll be keeping an eye on this one!

Oh, by the way forgot to mention the most important part. The cab is now mounted to the chassis! I had it close before but never welded in the mounts.

Pretty much everything I did in past couple weeks was a huge improvement how everything fit together. I simply cannot remember ever having a day in my near 58 years where everything just "clicked".

It was one of THOSE days but in a perfectly good way. Hope it will continue at least in part.

Yesterday was also one of those days where things I wondered how I could get it to work all fell in place. I know now at least one of the colors I will paint the truck.
Something just clicked when I was finally able to set the cab on chassis, having mostly bare metal there vs the red & primer.

I had hoped to be able to use the front cab stub from the '11 so I cut it out of the '11 cab when I made the driveway dresser . .

After some quick measurements it looks like I will be able to integrate it into the cab either weld in or bolt in. i would prefer the bolt in.

This will help stiffen up the front a lot and also give me a place to use the inner fender liners from the '11, direct bolt in of battery box, air cleaner, core support and more.

The wiring looks complicated but its all plug n play. Just match up the color coordinated plugs to each other. yeah there will be a few times of head scratching. One of the reasons I chose to take pretty much everything out of the '11 truck was to transplant it into the '66. The floor pan, firewall and kick panels give me stock locations to mount it by just looking back at photos when I tore apart the '11.

I was a bit worried about where the PCM would fit but after the mods I did to firewall and cowl area its now a direct bolt in using the stock '11 hardware.

I still have some serious work to do in getting the cooling system in along with engine cooler, trans cooler and intercooler but cannot imagine it being as tough as doing the cab.

The engine vacuum pump I will need to do a custom mount for and not sure where yet but where ever the wires will reach.

Edit Add: the cooling system, intercooler etc tough part is to get them all to fit up front. The front end on the '11 had a bunch more room.

I am thinking about it but not quite there yet but headlights, grille etc will also be a tight squeeze.

i want to update the headlights using the '11 bulbs and switches but need to figure out how to do that so it looks close to stock vs trying to adapt the entire light. It would no longer look like a '66.

I am aware of the truck but go figure the day after I get things to work they finally show the wiring kit. Ford Racing has been promising that since 2011.

They told me what I was trying to do could not be done.

WIth the kit coming out is a good thing though but I want all the electronics in mine. A luxury '66. I have enough of the noisy hard to drive ones. LOL

This is the most gripping truck build I have ever read. I love the suspense.

BTW Great work! Can't wait for more.

I just did some quick Googling and it appears there are a lot of choices for 7 inch round headlamps that use a H4 (factory) style bulb in them, so it looks like you have an easy solution for once.

I caught this thread in its infancy. I just looked thru it just now to see the progress. Wow! You have done a great job. Aside from the driveline transplant, I love the interior swap. Best of luck and nice work.

I like this build! Been watching since you posted here, darn glad you did. I wish I had your fearless attitude about the wiring! I'm in the bug-eyed group of WTF when I look at all those wires.

Looking good! ( I think we all want a thief update too......)

The local Sheriff is working on what all person can be charged with.
So far still working on who his accomplice(s) are.

This is the most gripping truck build I have ever read. I love the suspense.

BTW Great work! Can't wait for more.

Thanks! Hopefully it will get a bit more "fun" vs the not having a clue where to go next.

Thanks! That is exactly why I post here. So much to think about & any help much appreciated.

Plans are finally falling into place. The closer I get to making it will drive or knowing I can get it to all work will be more and more exciting for me.

I did another build back in 1996-97 that was probably more scary to do once I got started.

I wanted a neat newer daily driver for my Insurance Adjusting work where I put sometimes 300 miles in a single day. Good power dependable and also good MPG.

Started off with a brand new 1996 Ranger Extended Cab Step side.

It was cheaper than a used one at the time. 15,100.00 OTD
I had a super low mile 5.0 out of a mustang GT.
My thought was drop it into the Ranger for all that I was looking for.

I did but was not happy with power output so I added a SuperCharger.

Part of it was before purchase I did not realize it was OBD II and it had to pass the strict Arizona emissions standards. Wiring it to make it all work was a total nightmare. A ford engineer did finally help me with diagrams and few pointers. The truck had only 2040 miles on it when I tore it apart.

Of course it had a good roller cam, high comp, ported Twisted Wedge alum heads, ported intake etc.

On these stock skinny 4 cyl tires it ran a high 12 sec 1/4 @ 112 mph.

Put down 390hp to the tires.

I hid my timing boost controller in the spot where air bag would be (pass air bag delete truck) and the actual control was hidden in the glove box.

Fun truck that got 25+ MPG. The stock 2.5L in same truck could not top 14 mpg. Throttle to the floor where ever it went.

These pics were in 2008 or 12 years after the build. Not fresh anymore but still looked good. If anyone from here was at Barrett-Jackson auction January 1999 this truck ran through and bid up to my original purchase price of 15,000.00 I did not sell. This was prior to the no reserve only bidding.

I am close to selecting a color or color combo. If anyone here is able to do a drawing or rendering I would be willing to pay for it.

I think its high time to see what it will look like done.

Usually most builders have that selected long before the build is even started. Us backyard special's do not have the luxury. LOL

The color combo just never clicked until now . .

The white/ contrasting color thing really says 66. Maybe you could do it with a wrap for the color and change it up at will.

Caught a nasty flu bug . . out for a couple days.

Computer crashed on Saturday, bought new tower & trying to get things restored.
Cell phone for posting not much fun.

The Gurney Bump will no longer be needed. The master cylinder/booster now clears with a few mods.

The A/C lines and heater hoses now fit right in place as does the wiring through firewall and also the PCM in its stock location. All thanks to moving that firewall forward and down a touch. It was well worth the effort to spend all that time getting it to fit. Now its plug n play. Ok, there are about 3 zillion wires i have no clue about . . LOL

next up will try to utilize the front stub from '11 cab and to mount the cooling module.

Hoping I can make the front stub either weld in or bolt in. Initial measurements say it might go.
