Classic thread. If anyone want to know anything about humanity, it's in here somewhere.

I have a couple of suggestions:

Cut off the list at the last count. Anyone else wanting in can be placed on a reserve list. There will be folks that don't come through.

Ship these to 2-3 places for ultimate distribution. I see someone in the East will ship some and I see someone closer to the left coast. That will save on individual shipping.

AFA shipping, they should be shipped at buyer's expense for actual charges. More work, but more fair to those that can pick up. Really not that much more work beyond entering the individual's address. Software does the rest.

Canadian buyers will have to figure this one out on their own because the work to shop something to Canada is too much unless it's a gift.

Since I mentioned gifts, I'll take a free one for all the free advice I've entered here. ;):D

Couple of things. First, Zeke appears to be someone who likes to hear himself talk.

What you and BoureeOne don't know is that AcquaticBob and I have PM'd back and forth about this. If you want to know the truth, what I predicted in those messages seems to becoming the truth.

But I'll accept the assessment of my personality. Wouldn't that actually be true of almost anyone with a few thousand posts? Reminds me of an old saying:

"Even an idiot has the ability to state the obvious."

HAHAHA ***** slap back at ya! :bounce: I hated it when Zeke first made his predictions, cause I knew he was probably right. I figured Bob would have bailed way before he did, this deal got big fast.

How does a baby in the over 9 months feom now preclude a $200 plasma cutter now? Clearly you weren't serious in the first place.

Yeah I started to wonder if it was really going to work out when the list started skyrocketing after 200 units. I figured it would wind up being too big of a hassle for Bob.

No harm done though. I don't have any hard feelings about it. As far as I am concerned Bob went way above and beyond for all of us here in even attempting to put this together.

Not too many dudes would have put as much time and effort into this as he did.

It was fun while it lasted. I gotta say, I learned quite a bit about a tool I likely wouldn't have come across too often. Now, thanks to this thread, I can definitely see picking one of these rascals up within the next year or so. When the thread started I really hadn't much of an idea of what a plasma cutter was. Pilot arc? WT heck is that? Now I know, and now I'd like to get one and put it to use!

Consumables used to mean toilet paper, socks, and food. Now it's a whole 'nuther ball game!

AH HA!!!, a tell tale sign you haven't gotten into grinders and sanders yet. Man oh man have you got a lot of tools to purchase. :bounce:

Bob, might I suggest a edit of your original post at the top, maybe in a larger font and in red explaining this may not happen anymore. That won't stop most guys bowing out that aren't keeping up with the thread but it might stop a lot of new comers. Just saying.

Not quite my friend.

I've got grinders. 4.5, 5, and I think a massive 9, maybe 9+ inch older Metabo.

Got sanders too. Just never really heard the term consumables all that much.

I've got a 3-bay shop, but I don't think it'll ever be "fully stocked". How is that even possible?

But yes, I have MANY tools on my list to buy, and MANY tools that I probably don't even know about that will be making their way on the list as the years go by. I look forward to it!

Pretty much knew it was going to be a failure and a waste of time after OP didn't update for a week.

If anyone ever updates the list again, take me off, I'm #33.

Don't want to get a PM in 3 months that someone needs my $200.

Its two hundred dollers that could buy a crib or start stocking on diapers or wipes, or money to go into remodiling the spare bedroom to make it the baby room. Who's to know what gonna happen in the next nine months. As this is our first she could be put on bedrest later on. All Iknow what.I got to do is to make sure I have what is needed for when the baby comes. I watched my half brother and his wife be irresponsible for 9 months and a week before there baby came they were cryingfor help cause they didn't buy a single thing. I'm gonna make sure I'm prepared. Does that answer your ? Sir.

And here I was with my practical mind set of....without a plasma cutter how can that man build a suitable crib for his offspring. Gezzz, what was I thinking :headscrat

My business is picking up a couple months before it usually would, which caught me a little off guard. This contract also is going into its final day of testing tomorrow. I'll know tomorrow if I'm going to be busier than hell everyday 12 hours per day or not.

To the "predictors" that this would bust; I appreciate the predictions. Might be landing me early retirement

Bob,

The tiny minority here wants something for practically peanuts and they'll hound the guy who's doing them a favor which the vast majority are respectful enough to provide the common man some leeway.

I still believe that there's something that can turn into reality. You don't mind if I connect with you to keep this group buy possible by getting it off your hands?

Twertsy,
I live in your neighborhood and would be happy to help with lifting (or boxing, or shipping--whatever labor is needed) if this deal goes through and you end up involved. I'm on the list and remain hopeful.
Either way, I appreciate the efforts of aquaticbob up to this point, and can't fault him for having real work get in the way of this deal.

AquaticBob sounds like he's a busy man right now, I'm sure he'll get around to answering. Appreciate the offer for help and, should it transpire, I'm sure it'd be needed. I'm betting though that switching coasts my not be an option cost-wise? I've met a bunch of GJer's around here and I'm sure we could knock it all out in a day or so, schedule pickup and be on to beer time!

I think Aquaticbob would like to do this. Maybe a practice towards a future enterprise. But it has to be done while the main business isn't busy.
There is a list and my suggestion may be figure out a decent quantity, say 100 or 5 pallets worth and then go down the list to see who ponies up. The first 100 who do get the first batch. There can be a second batch if things work out for all parties.
By working with a fixed amount, it can make the deal a whole lot easier.

I'm still in if this goes down. Maybe it would be more manageable if it was broken down to say 100 units at a time. It would also give plenty of leeway to those that are now dropping out

I liked how he predicted people would sign up and then back out. He was the first to do that in this thread. :spit:

Bob good to hear the words early retirement in there. Wish you all the luck, at the end of the day we stand to save a little over $100 maybe so no big loss one way or the other as far as I am concerned as a new guy.

Don't worry about comments like this. Some guys on here don't have kids (or are bitter about having kids) and like to badger others about it. I've got 2 under 2 on a single income and understand you being conservative. Now that you have a baby coming, your whole world is about to be rocked lol.

I used to spend money on "toys" all the time without a care in the world before having kids... now that I have kids, I always question my purchases and whether I actually need them or whether the money is better placed in a 529 Plan for the kids or my retirement. Luckily, I've had luck in flipping cars/tools/other stuff and have been able to get stuff I need without effecting my family.

Hope the pregnancy goes smooth and congratulations! Enjoy the ride, it is a crazy one! :rocker:

Also, Bob, thanks for all of your hard work! I appreciate the effort you have put into this for us!

I read some pages and am not all the way thru the complete topic yet. If this is to go thru I would be willing to join in. It would help me with this project

No, I'm still working on it. I've got the unit price almost dialed in but I'm working on shipping costs. I'm hoping I'll have more info in such a way that I can accurately provide a more precise final cost for each buyer based on the zip code and business/residential address. Be nice to see the actual cost instead of one-size-fits-all approach which is unrealistic when shipping to NYC vs Boise, ID.
