I have always used Snap On impacts. When a new one came out I'd trade the old one in on it. Snap On is all I've used.

I thought I'd give IR a try so I ordered a 2235TIMAX and received it last week. The 1st thing I noticed is the sound in reverse sounds a lot more powerful than the forward sound. The forward sound leads one to believe something is wrong with it. The best way I can describe it is it sounds like it would if you cut the air pressure down to 30 PSI.

Should the forward and reverse sounds be different?

Before anyone asks, I have an 80 gallon compressor without pressure regulator piped into 1/2" pipe.

All IR impacts I've owned have always been slightly more powerful in reverse. That's just how they're built. If there is a dramatic decrease in performance in fwd like you describe, then I think there's something wrong... I assume the power regulator is turned all the way up.

Yup, normal. IR impacts are what they call Reverse biased. Always full power in reverse reguardless or regulator position.

IR impacts are biased to reverse since that's where the power is needed most. It will sound different.

All I have ever used is ir impacts and they hold up quite well
Reverse torque is always higher because it will take more to break bolt loose

The dial on the wrench only affects the max forward torque. Reverse is always at max regardless of the dial setting. Did you have the dial at max when comparing forward and reverse?

I have that model, like above have posted it is biased. +1 on checking the forward torque dial. Mine saw daily use for several years, no problems, but I was really good about keeping it oiled.

Thank you everyone. It just seems underpowered in forward but it could be just the different sound compared to the Snap On I'm used to.

Probably just the sound, and I love the IR trigger feel compared to SO, Mac and other brands. Has alot more control over speed I can back bolts out slowly, or tighten slower if you know what I mean.

7 1/2 years strong with my 2135 Ti-Max daily use with no rebuilds... thinking of grabbing the 2235.
