I got this craftsman today. It's a 9 drawer with a 10/65 date stamp. It's still carried over the heritage logo series rounded corners.

SWEET! I love the Craftsman rollers that are all drawers. Congrats on the score. Are you going to repaint?

I plan to repaint as I did my others. I do a different red that matches my HF 44 closer. I'm in the mist of reorganizing my garage so once I move stuff around and find out what's going where I'll repaint. It's in good shape so I cleaned it up and lubed the slides and putting it to use already.

It also had a plug system on the side which I don't know if original

That plug setup is the original optional Power Panel. Unfortunately the middle where the wires are hanging out is missing the male plug part that you would plug your extension cord to.

Manage to find most of the plug contacts for the plug inside. I would like make it functional again. Would you know of picture I can use as a reference.

Look up a hand tools Craftsman catalog from the 1960's, I used the 1964 catalog it's on the very last page.

I have the box that would have sat on top of that one. Stamped 10/65 as well. I redid mine as well. Little bit of a brighter color of red. Rustoleum Cherry gloss. I have a place in my heart for those. I think are what a tool box should look like. Nice score!

One also usually but turns out to be a good thing is the 4 top drawers have the normal clips but 5 bottom have a roller drawer system
718bcdd01d58ccccf5fecf4653deb721.jpg

I like that but then drawer doesn't fully open. I can't complain to much. It rust free and covered in almost 55 years of grime but I'll fix her up nice

Just a update while looking through some old craftsman catalogs. The accessories for this year was the fold up side tray, the outlets and drawer dividers. So I'm very happy it's all original craftsman stuff. I wonder if the outlets where a option then would the hole be in side of box and just covered by a trim piece? It's too bad that catalog didn't show the outlets in detail ( especially the male connector ) cause that's something I would like to fix and get working again.

Haha. I wish i could find a bottom. But my dad's 1958 snap on is holding it right now. Pics of mine are many pages back... Let them be sets across the country. Couldn't let it go for anything. Been in the fam way too long.

I kinda like mismatched sets. Adds a bit of style.

I agree. I use them daily! Just happy to still give them some life. I am working slowly on an SK box right now. Can wait to show the before and afters. It's for my oldest daughter. She has been workinf her rail off on getting the hinges and latches looking good. I will post it up in this thread when done. We FINALLY bought the right color of green paint. Working on get the wrinkle finish correct. But it is cold again in KS.

What you NEED is a middle and side box of different brand and vintage to complete the set. :lol_hitti (not joking).

There is a 3 drawer cman like that on my local clist. It looks solid but rusty for 40 bucks. Also a powrkraft 10 drawer I went to pick up but its going to be a lot of work and the lady wanted 100 for it. I hated to pass on it

Thought I would share pictures of my first "real" tool box. I've had it for over 30 years. It's a Waterloo 2 drawer that I've carried for many miles in various vehicles. It's still my road box on some trips.

Picked up a new Remline today. Top box was made in 1968, bottom box in 1966. Bit of trivia, the company that made Remline was the company that supplied Sears toolboxes in the 50s. Just like the Craftsman boxes, the date is stamped on the inside of the drawer behind the metal label. I've got two Craftsman boxes made in 1957 by Advertising Metal Display Company from Chicago.

I just finished giving this top chest a spit shine. Thank you drivesitfar!

Very nice complete setup, lots of in^2 storage.

Sweet matching setup, justinmc. I have that same upper with a 6-drawer roller. I'd love to find that mid-box. Those are great boxes.

Is your set 27" or 33"? those are 33". I didn't know they made a 6 drawer bottom in 33". :dunno:

those boxes have some of the smoothest friction slides ive ever seen. ive played with a few here and there from my dads buddies that were old diesel mechanics and such. run across one in a pawn shop a few months ago and they had 1000 bucks on the top mid and bottom. it was nice, but not that nice.

AE: glad we figured out how to get that pair of boxes together. it looks a heckuva lot better than when i dropped it off to you. nice work and now i'm more jealous.

ALL: i finally found the key to the little lock to my cart with the Huot box inside it. i think this will be a good substitute until i find a combo like AE now has. or when i get time to restore my MBC boxes. i'll tear the label off the drawers and try to figure out a way to make some nice ones and start filling it up with my tools. anybody love their labeling on their toolboxes and care to share how they did them?

Yikes... no way I'd pay that much. I traded for these but it wasn't anything near the $1k price range.

I don't really like labels on toolbox drawers. If I had to label the drawers, they would have to look like this:

Ahh the famed "Von Dutch box". I dig the striping work. If I had smooth enough nerves to paint like that I'd stripe everything.

I've never seen one either. Their 26" wide set came with a 7 drawer.
