Who knows?
Used mine for the first time last night.

I took the exhaust-shield(?) off my Civic to clean oil and crud from a bad valve cover gasket. Some of the grit/grime had gotten in the bolt holes and on to the bolts. I chucked the little die into a small vise and used a thumbwheel ratchet to spin the bolts in to it.

Bolts came out looking brand new with no crud at all.

Then I cleaned the holes with the hole chasers. Everything worked great. Wondering how I got by without this kit for so long.

Is there a hole chaser for sparkplugs?

Not in this kit, but Lisle has one. Since a sparkplug hole can be a major PITA when its fubar, there are also fancy thread restorers that come apart so you can do the threads from the inside out.

Back on sale for $44.96. So not quite as cheap as before ($39.96 price) but still pretty good. I've been holding out but figured I should get one while the gettings good.

I have the 40 piece set that I bought in the store. I've never used it. What are the extra 8 pieces? If they are smaller metric, it may be worth getting this and selling the 40 piece set. Decisions.

(Adding to an old thread to help any searchers.)

The Craftsman/Kastar 48pc is the 40pc set plus 1 tap and 1 die in each of the following sizes:

M10-1.00 - spark plugs?
M10-1.25 - exhaust studs?
M11-1.25 - Honda timing belt tensioner?
M14-1.50 - wheel studs? oil drain plug?

M10x1 is definitely spark plugs, I had to order a tap when I built my model engine in school!

Just used mine again today.

The threaded rods that came on my bearing splitter weren't long enough to let me put the splitter over my Civic's wheel bearing (outer race), so I bought some 1/2"-13 Allthread to make new "legs". After I cut them to size I used this kit to clean up and regroove the threads. It worked perfectly.

This kit has been so handy that I don't even keep it in a drawer. I just store it in the top of my toolbox under the lid.

I do not know how Sears stays in business. I ordered and the set came out to 34.96 plus tax, I applied whatever coupons I can find and do not really pay attention to what they are because you never know what they are going to do. Well I placed the order and they said I received 21. in points for my next order. Really? I will take it every time but just strange has there is not a rhyme or reason.

This is one of the most used sets in my shop...I recommend you search this item on GJ and read up....

the same set at the shop I was at and we all used it. But for the sake of that other guy I agree if you are a home owner and already have a complete tap and die set i wouldn't buy this unless I had extra cash.

I have a full set of SAE & Metric so I won't be running out for this.

No warranty, even though the included insert says lifetime warranty. IIRC the snap on singles are ~$5 each.

Thanks! I chickened out last time but I've been waiting for it to drop down again. I finally pulled the trigger. Free shipping was the clincher for me...I hate having to stop by on my way home from work.
