My car shop

Bought a house in Omaha last November. Bucket list required a out building or garage. It has a double garage under the house for the wifes car and junk. A detached 3 car garage for me. Pretty plain garage but has great bones to work with. First thing was to get some heat in it so I can work in cold weather. I bought a used but in perfect condition 110,000 btu furnace. Cost me 100 buck and 35 bucks to convert to propane. Had a 3200 gal propane tank set behind it and hook it up. I have been a metal fabricator and welder all my life so building a plenum above the furnace cost me nothing. I ran some runs of duct work to heat the garage evenly. Even build a rack around the furnace to keep it in one piece if I back my truck in a little off kilter. First requirement met:thumbup: I installed plenty of lighting and even had a warm day to paint some white on the block walls to lighten up the drab block. Its a temporary fix as I plan to install a ceiling and stud out the walls and insulate them. Probably take some time to get that done as the wife has projects in the house to do as well. Im 60 and getting slower in my old age. The purpose of the garage is to be my car shop for my toy, a 93 twin turbo Thunderbird. The garage has a makeshift work bench and some cabinets on the walls. I plan to rework all that as well. Lots of ideas floating on this forum. I am happy to have a work space that is all mine.

Very nice garage. Looks like a nice blank slate to start with. Some nice updates with lighting and paint and heat.

What other plans do you have?

The outside is bare blocks, not much curb appeal. Will likely seal the block and painted it in the spring. The inside needs to finish getting painted with a good grade of paint as it might take some time to do the walls right. Plan to drywall the ceiling and insulate it so I'm not heating the entire sky over Omaha. The work bench, I plan to do a 10GA stainless steel top on with a break in the front down and a break in the back up for a back spash so to speak. Will have to refinish the cabinets. I want to add more peg board to hang tools from. Will likely shoot them a gloss white. At my age my poor old eyes need all the light I can get. I still need a couple of 8' lights at the front and side of the bay closest to the house. Im parking the truck in there as long as it cold and wintery like. Would love to get some cool signs, maybe an American flag on the wall. A decent sound system to break the silence. Wife wants an intercom system installed so she can call me for dinner, not sure about that one yet. I have a frig in the garage under the house so Im not far from a cold one. A two post car lift is a big wish but don't see one in the near future. Might do an epoxy floor. It all only takes money after all:)

Looks like a reasonable wish list! At least the building is there already so now it's just making it the way you like it.

Got the outside painted this last weekend. Have the new SS top ordered for the work bench and should have it in the next day or so. Moved a frig in so now I can drink a cold one whenever I feel like one. Its geeting there, slow but surely

Wow, who did that furnace? The supply air looks severely choked off. I bet that fan is doing all kinds of whistling.

Nice garage otherwise!

The supply air is just a 24X32 square opening on the left lower side of the furnace. I have a furnace filter over it

I finished the top on the work bench. 10GA stainless steel and mounted my vice. Have to mount the arbor press on it yet. Painted all the drawers and doors. Moved in a nice frig for cold ones. Built a top for another drawer setup. I tore down the old peg board and installed 12x4 foot of white peg board. Still have a ton of tools to install on it. Hanging two eight foot light fixtures over the bench to replace the smaller 4 footers. Still have painting to do.
