Wire stripers ...Looking for a new set.
Not the cheap combo strippers, insulated crimpers, cutters.
But perhaps a GOOD set of that type would do.. Anyone have the Klein style multi function? Are they tight at the joint? Cutting jaws fully flush? wire stripping points meet cleanly ?
attachment.php

Not automatic wire stripping type.
Should have multi gage stripping points (like the el cheapos) not a single cutter with an adjustable stop that has to be changed for each wire gauge (have a set, dont like them)

So what brand? Model? and source if you have one saved.

Thanks

I have a set of Klein blue handled ones that are reversed from the style above. Strippers are on the jaw end and crimper towards the handle. Theyve work as intended with no complaints from me.
Also the snap on PWCS7 cutters/strippers are nice.

As you can see, the blue handled Kleins are my favorite wire strippers. The pair to the right is my oldest and best pair. Aside from their great functionality and quality, what I like about them is that the pivot bolt can be removed to sharpen the cutter. I've done that with all of them at some point. People who have borrowed them from me have done things like use them to cut MC. (Don't do that).

I have a pair of US Craftsman combo strippers that I use at work. I'm pretty sure they're made by Klein for Craftsman.
Never had a problem with them in 5 years. The strippers work awesome and it cuts anything I need it to. I like that the cutting/stripping area is at the tip, it helps when I'm in tight spaces doing wiring repairs.

I use these for striping wire ends. http://www.toolking.com/sg-tool-aid-19000-wire-stripper
Nothing is faster or cleaner. Can do multiple wires at a time. Now I mostly strip stranded automotive wire so Im not really sure how they would do on solid. Also these are the ONLY variation of this style stripper worth it. Matco and Cornwelll rebrands these as well. The cheap HF and other knock offs are just that. Cheap imposters. These are not that expensive to begin with so get these.

I have the matco one and love it! Although I would like to try the nice looking Snappy wire stripper.

I have two pair of these. The best I've used by far.

eta - Stripmaster by Ideal

These are outstanding. I prefer to use these unless I'm working with small guage wire, 20-32.

I also have two of the manual Ideal strippers for smaller GA wire (24-32 and 16-26).

This is my absolute least favorite style of stripper/crimper. Doesn't matter what brand they are, if the look like these, I will not use them unless absolutely necessary. They always feel flimsy and weak. After very little use the jaws will "spread" and the tool becomes useless at that point.... Stamped sheet metal junk.

Like others have mentioned, I prefer strippers like the blue Klein's pictured... with a separate dedicated crimper.

I think the OP requested no auto strippers. The Stripmaster is a great unit, but I still prefer the Kleins for inside wiring tasks. They are more versatile with the plier tip, screw cutters, wire cutters.

I've got these, very nice to use. I prefer having seperate crimper's as the combo's feel flimsy (to me) and bulky, depending on what you're doing.

He said it all..commercial electricians use separate crimpers. If your stripping a lot of wires you want the wire stripping part on top way easier to use.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN A COMMERCIAL ELECTRICIAN USE AUTO STRIPPERS AND IVE BEEN DOING COM.CONSTRUCTION FOR 20 YEARS

Thanks all
Yes not looking for Auto strippers.. is a comfort deal as well as accessibility.
And correct while I have the combo pair for a take along with me tool,,, for the shop I want a smaller set of dedicated strippers.

The Klein set like http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00080DPNQ/?tag=atomicindus08-20 is what I was leaning to (already in the cart) but I wanted to see what else folks were using.

Looks like I need 2 if not three pairs to cover a wide range of wire ga.

http://www.kleintools.com/catalog/w...in-kurve-wire-stripperscutters-solid-stranded

At least the 11053 for Strips, cuts and gauges 6-12 AWG stranded wire.
And 11055 for Cuts, strips and loops 10-18 AWG Solid and 12-20 AWG Stranded wire.

That covers 6 to 20 ga stranded wire which is what i see most in Motorcycle and Auto work.

Any other input?

So thinking about it...
I would like a single stripper that does 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10.

I occasionally work with larger and smaller but they can be done with an adjustable set when needed.

11054 does 10-18 stranded thats pretty close to my everyday needs... think thats the set.
And a 11057 for the smaller stuff

Thanks all

Who knows?
Thanks to you.

I already have one pair of Kleins, but thanks to this thread I'll be picking up at least one more set.

These are the best I have every use, I have installed emergency equipment on police and fire vehicles for 28 years and I'm always looking for better crimpers and stripers. They are made by Pressmaster I like their wire strippers but not their crimpers.

http://www.waytekwire.com/item/555/WAYTEK-SELF-ADJUSTING/

Thanks for the suggestion, but those are way to large for some of what i need to work on.

Doing fresh installs with an open platform and room to work, I bet those are nice though.

Do yourself a favor...get yourself a stripper that is a stripper and a crimper that is a crimper.
That's 2 tools for the price of 2.

LOL, if you read through the thread you'll see that is the plan.. I have a good set of ratcheting crimpers ..looking for stand alone strippers.

I'll echo what some others have said, whatever kind you get, don't get cheap

I have thrown away lots of cheap ones, some I bought, others from sets, generally garbage. Now to contradict myself, I have a pair of these Kleins
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00080DPNQ/?tag=atomicindus08-20

They work pretty good, but I got a pair of these Commercial Electric from HD as part of a "gift" set, they actually work better!
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Commerci...=shopping-_-ebayproductads-_-D27X-_-202039360

I would still recommend the Kleins, just kind of surprised how well these copies have performed.

Ideal Strippers & Klein Crimpers. Got this advise from an old timer retired from the marine electrical business.
