I hate you.
This ^ might normally get to me, but I can still taste that sandwich. :D

Btw, did it ever bother you that their "Yardstick" sandwich is only 30 inches long? Not that I ever bought one, or could even pretend to eat one, but it seems like if your gonna use the name it oughta be a full 3 feet. :dunno:

Come on, the states are the ones that have always shortchanged commodities...just look at the gallon...20% smaller than it should be.:D
And beer that's at least a full percent less than is drinkable...

I have a total of $170 for extra warranty, enough for just one unit that's reserved just for that.

Sean

Seriously after all the talk others would pitch in to help out Bob. I'll toss in another 20 tomorrow Sean. Hopefully maybe others will step up their game too.

Isn't the $5 the only part going towards warranty? I thought all the other was donations for the kids and cutter for Aquamoose?

I don't see where anyone answered anything about the color yet. Will these be BLUE as pictured or what? Just curious.

If anyone is having second thoughts, I would be more then happy to fill your spot! I need a plasma cutter in a big way. I guess I also need to read the forums more too...

Everyone please be a bit careful about making condescending comments about the membership just because they didn't donate extra the exact way you did and at the time you did. I have a feeling this will turn out pleasantly for Aquamoose in the end, because everyone here realizes the work he is doing for this group buy. I haven't sent anything extra as of yet, but I am planning on sending a gratuity to Aquamoose and/or his kids after we get closer to receiving the units. I first want to make sure that everything goes through okay, and that there aren't any other hidden surprise fees/charges that kick in which he wasn't expecting (that I also want to be able to help cover), etc.

Having a maximum of two Paypal payments for him to handle (one to get the ball rolling and a second one later to say thanks and also cover any unforeseen circumstances) was the best way I knew to keep everything as clean and simple as possible for Aquamoose.

I think of it like a waiter/waitress at a restaurant. I don't tip/say thanks before the meal, I do it after. I am sure I am not the only one doing it this way.

I echo your comments/thought process 100%

I think some of you guys are missing the difference between extra sent for Aquamoose as a thank you, & extra sent to buy additional machines for warranty purposes. Money sent to buy additional warranty machines needs to be sent in advance, while thank you gifts could be sent at later time. There is some crossover, but most of the concerns about low participation seem to be aimed at the warranty machine fund.

There was talk about enough buyers kicking in an additional $5 to have 3 extra machines on hand as replacements to be available above what the normal warranty would be. You could choose whether or not to be part of that program. They would be available for the first of those who needed them among those who kicked in towards the warranty machines. If I understand it correctly the additional warranty machine(s) will not available for anyone who didn't contribute the extra $5. The low participation count seems disappointing at first.

At this point it sounds like there is 1 machine that would be there for the 34ish members who participated in the warranty machine purchase. If twice as many had done so then there would be 2 machines, & so on, but your odds would be the same as far as needing/getting one of those machines. At this point less of us have participated in the plan than expected. That leaves us in a smaller pool as far as who that machine would be available to. That doesn't necessarily sound like a bad deal for those of us who got in on it, although the group on the whole might have been better off if everyone had decided to do so.

I am wondering about the possibility of those of us in the little pool (if we haven't already) putting another $5 towards a 2nd machine just to improve the odds. Or about those not in on the additional warranty machine(s) still buying in with enough time to order additional machines. Logistically it seems like we would need another block of 34ish to do so. Is the warranty machine plan closed at this time?

Thanks,

First, I'm hoping I didn't come across as condescending as that was not my intention..

To be clear, most of the comments above were related to the $5 buy in for the warranty, not any extra for Sean or Bob.

It is not really my place to make comments on anyone else's generosity or lack thereof..

I didn't think the 1 year warranty even came into question here. Since we aren't the original buyers and are technically buying them from aquamoose. That is why he is offering the $5 extended warranty thru himself as he will have to deal with the Chinese on replacements if necessary.

Sort of, the $5 buy in was for Sean to buy additional units/parts to stow away if needed.

You're right, I think there may have been some that took mine and others comments about the warranty buy in as comments about donations for the guys..

Personally I was just surprised that the buy in was so few, thats all..
You're fine Beemer, and I realize there are two different discussions going on in this thread. One about the $5 extended warranty and one about extra money raised to help Aquamoose at least get his unit paid for as thanks for all the hard work he has put in.

The amount of money raised for the extended warranty will directly reflect the importance of having an extended warranty to the individual buyers. There should be no emotional/moral tie to it at all, it is just a risk/reward decision each buyer makes for themselves. How much money is raised for the extended warranty reflects the level of concern people have over their unit having problems after the 1 year mark, nothing more.

It just seemed like the thread was starting to turn into a little bit of a "look at how good of a member I am compared to others" type direction related to helping out Aquamoose and also somewhat related to the extended warranty and I thought that was a bit unwarranted and disrespectful.

There are actually 4 reasons to send money.

1. To pay the invoice for the machine(s) and consumables.
2. To add consumables.
3. To donate for machines for Bob and/or Sean.
4. For the warranty machine fund.

Everything except the initial invoice should be a separate PayPal payment with an attached note saying what it is for, so the funds go to the right pile. I suppose you could send one payment with a note of how to apportion the funds between different needs. I am seriously considering sending some for extended warranty.

I seriously suggest that anyone who has been invoiced, and decided not to participate, notifies Sean, so others can take the slot.

And for those who didn't get in on the deal, if it was me, I would make application as directed on page 1, in hopes of getting one. I don't know if Sean can add units to the list for an additional cost, or not. Don't know if he even wants to, if he could.

Is there a time limit on when I can buy in on the extended warranty? Ive already paid for my cutter and consumable package. I should have just put it in on my original purchase.

I agree with you. Taking up the group buy is a first for me and it's one of those things that I wanted to experience. I came in with the expectation that I won't get anything "extra" out of it other than just seeing the fun in watching my neighbors gawk at seeing 6 pallets of $50,000 worth of Plasma Cutters get dropped (gently) in my driveway and while it may be crazy to some, it was a "dare" thing that I've put upon myself. It did get a little crazy since I actually planned to use a temporary website to take orders and let it do most of the work but due to the pressing timeline before the Chinese New Year, I abandoned it in order to avoid unnecessary ordering delays with China regarding their Chinese New Year.

I was very careful in ensuring that there will be no hidden surprises with China or the broker. The most that I'm worried about is the fluctuation of the shipping cost. I just hope it remains the same and not see it go up.

I'm embarrassed to say, but for those who donated, thank you. I will buy two cutters (one for Bob) and the rest I'll put in for my kids for their help. Regardless of the outcome, the pleasure is entirely mine and the biggest benefit I'd like to think I'm getting is having a few new friends along the way and one "Rub-it-in" from Pasadena, CA who likes to torment me about Capri Deli in Covina, CA.

If I understand it correctly the additional warranty machine(s) will not available for anyone who didn't contribute the extra $5.

Correct. Those machines will only be in play after the 1 year warranty have expired and for those who wish for the extra peace of mind. There will be a special binder with names & info of those with the extra warranty stored away with the machines that will be plainly marked and be stored up high in my shop.

At this point it sounds like there is 1 machine that would be there for the 34ish members who participated in the warranty machine purchase. If twice as many had done so then there would be 2 machines, & so on, but your odds would be the same as far as needing/getting one of those machines. No, it still remains available. When China is about ready to ship, they will let me know the due date for the final balance to wire over and that will be the ultimate cut-off. Until then, anyone can add $5 to warranty their unit. Please include the invoice # in the memo line if paying via "gift" with Paypal.

The amount of money raised for the extended warranty will directly reflect the importance of having an extended warranty to the individual buyers. There should be no emotional/moral tie to it at all, it is just a risk/reward decision each buyer makes for themselves. Precisely. I just thought I'd get a good number to get about 3 units. A little while back, I was ready to refund the warranty when I thought there won't be enough to cover one unit. At this point in time, there will be one unit. Please note the updated list regarding warranty participation.

Hopefully China will stretch out the warranty past the one year mark since they were surprised on the number of orders put together in a short time frame. My contact keeps talking about "continued future business relationship" despite trying to explain that it was just a group buy. I gave up and talked "business" and will let this come into play for any warranty issues that comes up after May 2016. When they say it's over, the extended warranty stuff will come into play.

Bill

I've thought about it for some time... Since it's possible to add some units before the final payment is wired to China, I've decided to allow others in on the deal but with a "late fee" of $25. $20 will go towards the extended warranty fund and $5 for miscellaneous (gas, packing tape to re-seal boxes after consumables are inserted, kids labor, etc). Of course, if they want the warranty, they'd have to contribute $5 for their own extended warranty. 160 was the goal, it's now stands at 225 and it's a bit more than I expected and want to let things die down and figured the $25 is a fair thing to do.

Aquamoose, i think you missed me on the warranty

Are you looking at #141 on the list? You're listed in bold, indicating that you contributed to the warranty.

I haven't gotten it yet so I can't tell you what happened. I've gotten others via PO Box just fine. Maybe it came today as I haven't checked the box today. I'll let you know when it does.

One of your fellow GJ regularly sells me Snap on tools. He comes to my house to drop them off.
My wife asked me how do you know he is not a mass murderer?
My response was he has good deals on Snap on tools and works too much, mass murderers are very poor on job attendance.

Her: What's this $250 payment on PayPal?

Me: What are all these cardboard boxes in your dressing room, marked HSN?

Her: Why do we need a South Bend Bull gear and Back gear assembly?

Me: What's with all the little packets of jewelry findings and beads coming from China every day?

Her: What's a VFD, and why do we need one?

Me: I tried to count all your pairs of shoes, but I lost track somewhere in the 60's. Do you really need one pair for every year you've been alive?

Funny that you mentioned that.

On the flip side of things, this is how it went when I transferred $30,000 in my personal account in preparation for the wire transfer to China...

Wife: Hon, I think the bank messed up our account, we have $42,000 in it. (She was expecting just $12K of our money)

Me: No, it's legit. I'm just running a little group buy.

Wife: (puzzled silence)

Me: I was bored.

Wife: I could put up a stripper pole in the bedroom.

Me: That's where the free plasma cutter comes into the picture.

I am so glad that we are not the only couple with a stripper pole in the bedroom.

Thanks again for doing all the work on this.

I was going to do the stripper pole myself but to tell the truth, those outfits she makes me wear are uncomfortable. Where do you get yours?
