Got another that came with my house.
No markings from what I can see. Also full of tools. Some I have no clue what they are?

Mech, post pics of the wood one open, and the tools you don't know in a new thread; we like to play guessing game, (even though we almost always ID the tool within minute. but some get entertaining!

I just join this forum last week after I got these two boxes. the bottom one is a craftsman probably mid 70's and the top is a Mactools. both of them have the locking mechanisms but no keys I wonder if I can get a locksmith to make me a copy for each.

On the craftsman check on the lower front right there should be a code. I just picked up one of these with rounded corners and it was a 1965. I'm with you on the lock my lock is all screwed up missing pieces to the locking rods

Have a good one, Gerard

Looks like several different versions of valve spring compressors for working on small engines (like lawn mowers), there's a piston ring compressor in there and possibly a tool for lapping in valves (the one in the lower left of the last photo.)

That lapping piece likely goes to the hand crank device in pic 2, which is a valve lapping tool; it doesn't spin the suction cup part, but turns it side to side, like a washing machine agitator.

From those dimensions, am I the only person thinking lunch pail? Did Sears ever sell those? :dunno: Otherwise I agree with Outlaw...probably a dedicated carrier for something, rather than a general purpose tool box. Looks like someone used it for .22 practice, shooting at the logo.

Hey All,
Just hit an Estate Sale. Had hoped to find a Pilliod machinist chest that was pictured but alas it was gone.I've never seen one in the wild and this particular estate sale company has had 2 in the past 3 weeks. Of course I've missed them both. But what I did find today was this vintage Craftsman wall hanging toolbox. It measures 31 1/2" h x 19 1/4" w x 5 1/4" d when the doors are closed.
The three screws that anchored it to the block wall were extremely tight,so much so I had to go home and grab an impact driver to budge the screws.
But I got it off the wall much to the dismay of some other customers that would have liked to have bought it. I made sure I had paid for it and took possession of the working key before leaving to get some tools to assist in removal.

Nice!

So is it the mechanics cab, or the wood workers?

I think it is an early carpenters' version.

I think so too. The bracket on the right hand door looks right for hanging hand saws.

Yes you folks are correct!! Good thing my day job is as a carpenter...might just have a few tools laying around to fill it:willy_nil.Wished I had a good picture. still scouring the net and Cman catalogs

Every time I see you post you usually grab some really great stuff! I can't help but think about how much sweet stuff is still located in the Detroit area! Really nice grab on the tool box!

CEM: i think that might be the 4th box we've seen like that here on this thread. Outlaw and I each own one and we think it might have come with a tractor or old car, but not for sure. thanks for posting it and here's mine so you don't have to go back through this huge thread. also if you do find out more about it please let us know.

ALL: so i'm going to start thinning the heard a bit and found this old Craftsman crowntop combo that i probably won't have time to restore. it is very solid and just has some surface rust. i might still keep it since i do have a few craftsman tools, but i listed it in the classifieds if somebody needs it before i get around to spiffing it up.

Well, that takes all the fun out of speculating.

Just picked up this Snap-on box last night. It's seen better days, but is still functional. I cleaned up the slides last night, some were quite rough and dirty. Can anyone tell me what the model number is? I can't find stamping anywhere other than the handle, and that's for the handle itself (KRA-402?). PO said it was probably from the late 60's or early 70's? Any info would help me a bunch. Can you still get new slides for these?

Looks like a KRA307 IIRC, from the very late 60's to very early 70's. It is stamped model and year made on the back.
