Correct.

It would cover a few things such as special bubble packets for the consumables, packing tape (to reseal), stretch wrap to repackage the pallet for UPS, gas, and fluctuating UPS shipping as it went up a smidgen.

I plan to squeeze in an extra cutter so if I'm in the red by chance, I'll sell that cutter and use the profit difference to offset any but it's looking good so far.

One quick good news, we have enough "extended" warranty for 3 complete cutters!

I should know if that's necessary once I hear from the broker by next week.

When you get to the point of knowing if you have to sell the extra cutter, maybe post up what you need to recover and we can all chip in a bit more to cover it. Or just sell it.

I paid for the extended warranty as well, no indication of it. No big deal, just fix when you can. :)

Hello fellow ELB'er, ahh, you turned me into Sherlock, searching for info and found that you sent funds from another email address. You're all good now.

I sent for extended warranty as well but number not indicated #42

Yup, got you fixed as well. Thanks for letting me know!

I paid 2/17 and am not on the list. Payment is under Jim Stainer and I was charchri4 and #292 on the list last time I looked.

+1 THANK YOU for doing this and all the effort you are putting into it!

So now that we're almost a week passed the due date have the units been ordered? do we have a more reliable ETA? I understand there are many logistics and such just wondering and excited

When they get here is probably the most reliable. They aren't built yet. So they have to finish existing orders, recover from partying and build ours, then ship them here.

When I get stuff from China, it's like Christmas when it shows up because it has been so long since I ordered it... In this case, I'm trying not to forget since it's a little bigger purchase. :)

Folks,

Some not-so-good news so this is going to be sticky. Had I had the opportunity to do it over again, I would not have used Paypal because supposedly, I missed the information about the fact that it is not permitted to collect funds for goods not received.

https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/acceptableuse-full See section 3.(d)

Normally, I'd say "Ok, refund everyone and have them either use USPS Money order or have them opt out" but the trouble starts...

$25,000 has already been wired to the manufacturer in China and approximately $29,000 is frozen in Paypal. In order for Paypal to release the funds, I'd have to provide proof of delivery to those who were invoiced. I can't simply get $25,000 back from China to get it back to you so I'm presented with the following options.

  1. Put in $29,000 of my own funds to get the cutters here and shipped. Information from UPS shipping should satisfy Paypal to release the funds and get my $29,000 back. This option is not available since I don't have $29,000 for this.
  2. Refund what I have from $29,000 and let the $25,000 that we've paid China to pan out and get those cutters shipped. This is the only viable option.

Right now, I'm asking China what $25,000 got us. Once I have some information, I will know what we bought. Shipment date is mid to early April. I'm guessing approximately 120 cutters and consumables. With that in mind, option #2 is the only option and there's potentially several "sub" options...

  • Start from the bottom of the list and refund those first who paid last while preserving those who first paid in. Example, if I find that $25,000 covers invoices 1 thru 120, I will refund invoices 121 and up. The exception is those who paid via USPS Money Order. Those who are invoiced via Paypal 1 thru 120 can request a refund and the next slot would be made available to those who still want it. Example, 5 folks volunteers to be refunded and folks with invoices 121 thru 125 can step in.
  • Those that are "forced" a refund could still pay via USPS Money Order.

I apologize for the fiasco that fell on us and it just makes things a sticky mess. Please understand that it's not all lost and I'm going to right this ship and get everyone either their cutters or their money back. No one is going to loose their money.

Please take a good look at the attached documents showing the steps I've made with China and to show that the deposit was wired to them. I wished I'd transferred all the funds from Paypal and deal with them later with tracking numbers provided.

I'm wide open for ideas / suggestions. I am CERTAIN that there are at least one who are going to be pretty upset/disappointed about and let me make it clear, if you want your money back, I will do it right away.

Sean

What is the requirements for proof that goods have been delivered?

There has to be a way around this..

How about you send me a smiley face sticker in the mail. I bought a smiley face sticker right?

It will cost $1.05 per item mailed for delivery confirmation plus normal postage so about $1.50. I'm guessing you'd have to send out about 130 or so stickers so there would be that extra cost but I imagine enough of us could send a few bucks that we would cover it.

I think that should get you delivery confirmation proof so that PayPal will release the funds.

Sean - We appreciate your efforts.
Someone has to have a creative idea?
What if we resend funds via USPS money order or PayPal gift with the understanding that the refund of the original amount wouldn't come until shipment and the PayPal funding release?

Great idea actually.. Hell, it could even be a digital delivery.. As long as there is paperwork..

Tracking number is the proof.

Oy, they'll look at the weight. I'm sure it's been done by deceptive sellers who shipped empty stuff & so forth so I'm not gonna go there. Nice idea though.

The USPS money order seems like the best way to do this. Remember, my Paypal is restricted unless I show proof of delivery or refund any of the invoices so "gifting" me isn't going to do much good. Plus, they've already sent me a warning on accepting gifted funds for goods so it won't pass the sniff test with them so to speak even after speaking with them numerous times. At this point, I'm going to refuse any Paypal until the restriction is lifted.

If we're going to go with the USPS Money Order route, it would be done carefully with Paypal invoices cancelled then reimbursed via MO in that order.

Looking to hear more thoughts...

Jeremy,

I've been that route. Made many calls, supplied documents, etc over the last few days. They have seen it but they are still balking so I've hit a dead end with them.

The deal isn't technically dead but I'm at a "Catch-22" position. The thought of asking everyone to fork over funds with no protection is unthinkable, hence the Paypal route but it's the only thing that would work and it's why I'm giving the option of refunds.

So you can refund money from the PayPal account? You just can't do anything else with it?

So the idea would be to send a money order and then get a refund from the PayPal account? I'd be fine with that.

Just a question, but if we do end up having to go the route of a Paypal refund and payment by USPS money order instead, how much time are we looking at before the rest of the money needs to be paid to the Chinese? I might consider just doing the switch right away in order to get the money back to you fast no matter what ends up happening with Paypal.

Well, that I can find out. If there's a sizable number of funds from those who are willing to do the switch, I can talk with them and see what works. A week, maybe two of a delay in getting final payment to them doesn't sound unreasonable since they have our deposit as a commitment.

I hope to learn more tonight when my contact in China comes to work and gets my first email shortly.

That's correct.

It's the only alternative that I see at this point. I'll wait until I hear from China and hopefully more from the rest of the group.

What about a short term loan at the bank and pay it off as soon as the funds are released from paypal?

What a nightmare, If I was in your position I would feel sick just from the stress alone. If we had a week or so I'm sure a lot of us could take the refund and send in a USPS money order, I would for sure.

Wouldnt the paypal refund be electronic- or almost immediate- then for those of us who still want in get MO in the mail asap. Wouldnt be time loss or delay as far as North would see? Its a few weeks before they need balance? Just groping at understanding.

I just did the quick calculation based on $54,000 total involved in this group buy. If Paypal loses this transaction as a whole they will have to say goodbye to over $1,600 in Paypal fees. Oh well, their loss.

1,600 seems like a lot to me. Whew.. Anyhow I'm fine with switching up to a USPS money order if I'm above the cutoff.

Paypal fees are 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction last time I checked so that number should be about right.

There are some tips to using PayPal here. The main change it seems is to collect payments for services instead of goods. That lessens the PayPal protections but those protections are actually a duplicate through my credit card.
