I picked up one of these Wilton tilting vises recently and I was wondering if any of you experts can tell me when this one was made? It really fits my needs the way it's made. Just curious...I have never seen one like it. Thanks for any info offered.

It's called a Wilton Flip-Grip vise. They were made in the early 70s. They came with detachable standard jaw faces and detachable pipe jaw faces. At least the one I had was set up like that. I don't see many around.

Damn, 2 more emails from this fella concerning the pipe vise. Now @ $20 for it - since I'm cashed out till payday he will have to wait. I've done spent my fun fund to nearly the zero amount and still trying to work a deal on one of the classified ads here that truly has my interest. I'm scrambling right now trying to find the extra cash for the classified and pay the fellow gj member what he wants. Doesn't look promising - *****.
No response on the pricing of the other vises, guess he is holding to those amounts.
Once again, thanks guys.
Bill

Littleponderosa,---If I'm reading this right, and he wants $20 dollars for the Reed on a stick, and if it's not beat and hacked to pieces, you best find a little money, cause it won't stay there.---Looks like he has it rigged to pivot which makes it a swiveling (B), if you like that kind of thing.---For $20.00, it's worth the drive just to smoke it over.---If you don't, hind-sight's not going to be your best friend.

Here are more pics of my Parker 439 1906 patent date double swiveler. Phenomenal original condition with a lovely patina. Both swivels are smooth. This is a pre-wrench Parker.

3.5" jaws and 60-70 lbs I think. Needs new swivel handles which I am going to try and manufacture myself...

Here is a vise he wouldn't sell. Nice heavy duty clamper.

Here is a vise I negotiated into the deal. 5.5" jaws I'll incorporate it into my drill press even though it's incomplete.

Here is what a new one looks like:

I got mine from a leftover estate sale place, $5. It's brand new never been used and missing the jaws like almost everyone I found when I was looking online for info. :)

Edit: I guess mine has been tucked away too long, I just looked at the pics again and they're not the same - just similar... I'm guessing same era though, mine was 70's.

Yeah, most of these had the hinge to the side, and the vise rested on that pad to the right.

That's a very nice Parker. Did you get that in Connecticut. I saw it on Craigslist but out of my price point right now.

If you guys think the vise is great, you should have seen the tabletop rivet forge or the antique parts tumbler that got away.

Joe has a built-in radar for fine power tools he can sniff them out like truffles.
Thanks Jake but it was Meatsis from this board that tipped me off, i thought I had lost it but I got a call late last night. I couldn't be happier if it were an 8" bench vise. I wish I had the money for the forge. He wanted 85 bucks and i just didnt bring enough and he was FAR from a bank machine. I figured if I headed out to get cash, by the time I got back he might have changed his mind on the vise. It was the last thing he had to sell from his grandfathers shop. He was planning on keeping it but changed his mind.

I repayed the favor to Meatsis though by turning him onto a great vise and an Atlas drill press that went for $125.

I have to say i am SO excited to have this. I've wanted one for a while.
bagged, yes it is the same one you saw online.

* Since i left he re-listed the forge but at $150, which i think is still a good price.

Wilton 121079 was the model # of my tilting vise. Not sure of when it was produced.

Just finished my 6" Prentiss bulldog. Did this one for a guy in VT who wanted it NEKKID'. Lots of sanding to get the tops and sides acceptable.

If there was a vise that swiveled, tilted and had a pivoting jaw I bet it would throw oldldh into cardiac arrest!

Edit: Joe.Striper, that looks great!

Hello everyone ..Here is the vise that grew up on. My Father was a mechanic so this vise was well used for up to 70 plus years. It is one of the first made it was before it patented so it was definitely before March 1942. It was before Chicago. It has no date stamp of any kind. Not on the keyway not anywhere. The only number it has is at the bottom of the swivel base. After owning this and growing up using this for 46 years I finally got curious as to the age of it and I called Wilton Tools. Tony from there has called me several times. After all of his research all he could tell me was it is VERY rare and do not sell it LOL. Well it isn't for sale but I was just curious as if anyone else has any information. I do know its one of the first ones made but that's all the information that I have been able to acquire. Also its 14'' long...Thank You very much

Hefty. really old vise you have there, look at the cutout where the locking bolt goes, also I do not see Chicago where the fish hooks are. has anyone seen one like this. If you plan on stripping the paint off and even repainting it be sure to post more pictures. I have a few old ones but not like that one. Nick have you seen one like this? I added a few pictures of first generation Wilton's. I wonder if Hefty's is pre first Generation. Nice vise you have and keep that one in the family.

BFBOB.---Check out page 554,----post, 11078.---Outlaw is the man for Colton info.

Thanks, Grouse.
I'd seen Outlaw's post already-you're right, he's got quite a collection. I have one like the one pictured, but without the chipped anvil. So there! I have all 5 sizes I know of: 1", 1 1/2". 1 3/4", 2" and 2 1/2", but have only restored one, a 1 1/2" in Regal Red. I'll post a Family Portrait at some time, maybe when they're all done. Trying to decide whether to paint them all the same color, or all different. :willy_nil

The details of the stud-mount version are still a mystery, but I'm confident with as many GJ eyes prying dusty recesses for vises, someone's sure to come across one with the missing parts, and of course a swivel-jaw version. Maybe even me!

I don't think its chicom or even Asian.

Thanks Outlaw. I bought it anyway for $25 bucks. The seller said he had it for 40 years. He said it was heavy. It is unusual. It is reminiscent of some of the steel plate vises ive seen on here. Seller had it posted as a pipevise...

Has anyone figured out why some of the Prentiss Bulldog 525/515 out of NY have a brass medallion in them ? I see it was mentioned in one post but no one said why. I have googled the hell out of it to no avail. One place e suggested it was made in the interim between owner ships and another said they was a hole behind it. Anyone with a real idea why??

Cypher

An off the wall suggestion - Prentiss Vise was founded in 1868. Both of my brass badges have the post 1911 patent jaws (US 94240 A). Add 50 to 1868 and get 1918. So how about the badge was for the 50th anniversary of Prentiss in 1918?

Just Thinkin'

I recently obtained this nice little vise at an estate sale. The previous owner was a meticulous model railroad fan and he had some of the neatest tools and all were absolutely pristine. He had amassed quite a few very well made items in his 92 years. I was told by his daughter that he often made the parts for his hobby as well. I found this vise very appealing, I know the big vises are very popular on here but, I am often amazed at the style and lines of some of the smaller/older vises. This being one of them. I'm not very familiar with the brand of this (Karas Electric Co.) but, it is an extremely well made little vise and I felt it was one worthy of sharing on here.
