BLUEPOINT counter-weighted crank bolt sockets

Anyone have experience with this type of socket? They are deep counter-weighted sockets to add more torque to break loose stubborn crank bolts, specificly for Honda and Toyota. The set includes 17mm 19mm 21mm. I dont see why the same principal would only apply to crank bolts so hopefully I get more use out of this set on other stubborn bolts. The set was $130
So far Ive used the 19mm on an 06 Honda civic crank bolt (with no pulley holder) and it came off easier than the lug nuts!! Which impressed me because some Honda crank bolts can really be a bear!!

I saw them on the toll truck today. Almost pulled the trigger on the set, but wanted to do some research as to their effectiveness. I almost exclusively work on Honda/ACURA vehicles, so if they are legit I'm buying them.

They work. I'm a Snap-on dealer. Tried them out today on two engines. I was a tech previously and I was skeptical myself. But they really do the job. About to post a video of it on my YouTube channel zcamaross09

yes saw zcamarooss on this instagram today and looks like they work, would be good for people with weaker guns, i have never had problems with honda crank pulley bolts with my nitrocat 1200k.

They are online. Snap-Ons search is broken (has been for awhile). You cant search for a part number exactly, put it in and use the autocomplete that shows up in the drop down box.

After 1st reading this it sounded like they were just heavier sockets which would be like bolting on a heavier flywheel on an engine and I can't see the logic for breaking bolts loose with an impact. The term counterweighted however makes it sound like there is offset weighted sectors on the socket itself, maybe even mallory metal that creates it's own type of mini momentum between bursts from the gun. It will be interesting to find out how they work.

Not sure how exactly they work. There pretty hefty. Figure there might be a weight in it that spins causing inertia. Idk just a thought.

buddy had these and it grenaded after a couple uses. get the ingersol rand version. single socket and can be had online for around 60 bucks. Search google for Ingersol Powersocket- looks like a metal disc around a deep 19 socket. used a half charged milwaukee 1/2in gun to take off crank bolts all day.

It does look like a balanced flywheel type deal. I would have thought it would take just as much power to get it moving as it provided but maybe once it is in motion it provided some extra outward torque. It's interesting that your buddies' grenaded. It must be getting a rough ride. Too bad it's so bulky.

The snap-on one has the extra weight all along the length so it's less likely to explode.

I guess sockets were never considered as flywheels that provided torque but with this concept in mind there is room for some extra weight off axis to give the socket more torque before compromising power from the gun.

A guy should be able to heat shrink a heavy tube over a socket and tack it in place to get the effect.

Has anyone one noticed any performance differences between regular impact sockets and thin walled ones? (I never thought I'd ever be looking for thicker sockets)

I just purchased this 19 from snap-on. I tried 6 different impacts with a regular impact 19 and none would take off this Honda accord crank bolt. 1 hit with the counterweighted socket and it came right off

In the past I've successfully used careful application of a PH3050 hammer for stubborn crank bolts.

Picked it up off the SO truck today. Just used it on an 08 Acura MDX with 63k miles. With a 2135qtimax on 160psi shop pressure. Took about 10 seconds but it took it off. Surprised the hell out of me.

This thing is stout and it cost me $45 off the truck.

it's funny, i mentioned in another thread about how using impact sockets vs chrome sockets nets you more power and i got a lot of flack from it... maybe i can get a beer instead of the crazy eyes now

They are thin enough for some but they will probably scratch the hell out of the wheels though.

Im not entirely convinced. 2135 with 160PSI is a beast in its own right. I'd like to see a comparison on a torque tester which seems like no-brainer advertising material (if it works) for a product like this anyway.

I just have a 19mm that is welded to the inside of a 27mm socket if I remember correctly. Cost me about 10 bucks for 2 sockets and some time to weld it up.

Works like a charm.

I'd like to see one as well but there is no way a regular 19mm socket will break a Honda v6 crank pulley bolt loose. At least with my 2135. I've tried before. It's just a waste of time.
