I am certainly a newbie to this site and I am not a professional as most folks on here. I perform periodic maintenance on my cars (oil changes, brakes, timing belt & waterpump every 100K, and whatever comes up) with my 20-year old Craftsman set. I was amused by some posts that folks wouldn't use a new set of tools because they're no longer made, or they don't want any scratches on the sockets :shocking:, or going UH and AHHHH over a set of pink handle Snap-On screwdriver set, etc, etc, :lol_hitti

As with everything in life something is bound to be collectible (stamps, cars, coins, potteries, arts, guns, jewelry, etc, etc, etc, ....) and some of those items mentioned sold for huge amount of money on record at auction houses. The question I have for this forum is what's the most collectable hand tool(s) and what was the amount paid for it? I know that if something is rare and there's NO DEMAND for it, it's practically WORTHLESS.

it seem's the most collectable brand's are plomb and snap on, but there is interest in all of the older brand's like herbrand and blackhawk. seem's eveyone has thier favorite. prices seem to fluctuate and there really isn't a way to value tool's other than what they go for on ebay.

hmmm... what are collectable tools.... answer all of them...

as for most treasured, anythat have been handed down from generation to generation..
my personal favorite is a old doule ended saltus 9/16-1/2 in my tool box that was my grandfathers.... god rest his soul....was produced in 1958....what is is monetary value... who cares... offer me 1000 bucks and it will be politly be turned down....

as for collectaility in tools, i like to use this website http://www.alloy-artifacts.com/

they cover all the major manufacturers goin to before 1900's.... very interestig site...

also just buy watching posts here on garage journal... just about anything pre 1950(some as late as 1970's) is desirable to someone..... just to name a few... plomb, proto, duro-chrome, snap on, mac, indestro, new britian, and the list could go on for days....

lastley welcome aboard and enjoy the site

I understand where you are coming from.

As I understand it, old farm implement tools are THE most collectible. One John Deere sold for $20K IIRC. The most Valuable tools are in this category.

Second most valuable are the 4" adjustable. Why? I have no idea! Some folks must like them because the sell for $100's.

Around here, I'd say Plomb Pebble's are the most sought after vintage maker. Again, not my thing, but they are good looking and feeling tools.

Snapmom is right. Whatever YOU like is what is collectible. If your looking to make money selling vintage tools, good luck. You better know your stuff, have a good place to get said items from for cheap AND find a good source of people who want them.

There are others here who collect era tools. Pre-war, war, 50's, 60's 70's. There are folks who collect brands. Some collect odd shaped wrenches. Some collect aircraft tools. Some even collect modern tools!

Let me ask, what do YOU find collect able? What do YOU like?

Welcome aboard....Pink handled Snap-on screwdrivers bring good money sometimes. I don't know what the "most" collectable tools are. It's like different strokes for different folks. There aren't to many worthless tools IMO,although there is alot coming out of China that is.Just because there is no demand for a rare tool doesn't make it worthless. If you find the right buyer,it can be sold for good money.

I personally have a Millers - Falls wood handled ratcheting screwdriver that I wouldn't part with. My Grandfather gave it to me. I also have a bunch of other wood handled screwdrivers.
