Picked up a 1/3 HP Model #397.19580 for $50. Date underneath says Nov. 29 1968. The couple selling it inherited a garage full of old tools and I could have spent a lot but I stayed in control. It's in excellent condition other than some scratches on the tag and missing 2 rubber feet. A plus is that I didn't realize that's it's industrial rated.

What's the difference of the industrial vs standard rates?

I'm also getting a 1/2 1970s model with a stand for $75 on Friday. Yes I'm addicted and it's all Garage Journal's Fault.

Hey guys... I'm finally at a point where I'm ready to get my 3 bench grinders permanently mounted, and I was curious if anyone had any creative ideas on how to utilize 1 mobile stand to mount a handful of bench mounted tools.
I found this online and it could be a viable option. I recall one member who had 2 craftsman 26" boxes and mounted his 4 grinders on top. I have a small 2 car garage so my stand option has to be mobile, and the more I can fit in a small space, the better.

I'm curious to see some options. I am picking up a grinder with a stand on Friday and trying to think a way to mount both. I could probably mount 2 back to back in a steel plate. I don't know what you can do with 3. Maybe make a stand with quick disconnects so you can interchange them. Then make a mount to put the not in use bench grinder(s) on the stand legs.

Btw, good idea with the custom stand and two grinders. I'm in the same boat with how to mount two 1/3hp grinders in one compact footprint in a tiny shop.

My current idea is taking a surplus Delta Unisaw base cabinet and converting into a grinding/sanding station with a vise. The two CM grinders would rotate horizintally. Only one exposed at a time for use. Similar concept to the photo below, however a little more compact and towards the edge of the cabinet top, not center.

Cag: there are many great ideas that members use to have several grinders and vises in their space limited shops. Brent might have showed one of the nicer ways to mount 4 block grinders (3 blocks and a Dayton or Baldor) on 2 small rolling toolboxes. i know he posted it here and maybe also on my vise and grinder mounting thread. here's a link.

I'm in the process of building a welding table and putting the hitch mount idea for several grinders and vises, but there are several good methods as you'll see in that thread.

I just saw this member's wood bench where he has inserts to put in it for his gun loading and repair pieces. here's what some of us could build and use our blocks with several wheels so instead of changing wheels we just need to change blocks in the slot. if you only have 3 blocks picking the 6 wheels you want to use might be your biggest decision.

Haha. I was going to grab the mailbox style today. But the guy is busy and I just got crazy busy at work. They are both 2 hours away in different directions. We are getting more snow tomorrow so getting one tomorrow is probably out.

They both have the same original stand. The mailbox style seems better as it has the guards with the exhaust ports that I can attach a dust collector. I already have a 1/3 HP one. So I don't need to spend money for a 3rd.

j/k but serious though, that round top looks like a commercial model with the original stand and glass eye shields. I would kill/die for that one but at those prices, you can't go wrong with both. Who wants to change out wheels when you can just step over to the next grinder.

The flat top also has the same stand. If I buy it I will probably sell one of the stands because I don't have floor space for it. How much do these stands sell for?

That round top is NICE. TM sold me a roundtop 1/2" commercial and it is by far my favorite of my blocks.

A stand in good shape usually brings $100 plus shipping on Ebay. Were I selling one to a GJ member I would probably do $80 plus shipping and $60 if they were picking up and paying in cash.

So I said to myself, "F it, I'm getting both tomorrow." Getting the flat top first then heading to get the round top. Definitely keeping one stand and the round top. I'll probably sell one base. The round top is missing a light so I will take it off the flat top and the flat is missing the left cover. Maybe I'll make the flat top into my buffer/polisher, put wire wheels on one, and a grinding wheel and belt sander conversion on the third.

Summersteel, without looking at it, I'm assuming that is the one we have not found a direct replacement for. If so, you can use a round hole type switch with a vanity plate to cover the hole. If I'm mistaken on the model/switch, or someone found a direct fit replacement, I apologize in advance.

Someone with more knowledge will chime in shortly, lets see what they say .
