What is this? Water questions

Doing some water line work in my basement. Adding a larger water holding tank and a water filter system. This is on the main water line from my well, I have a submerse well pump. Is this anti drain back valve? and If I relocate it can it be vertical? I am working in a tight spot. Also can a well pump on-off pressure switch be relocated anywhere as long as it is line pressure? Similar, but it looks like a swing check with maybe a strainer.

I would change it to a spring check valve while you are moving it.

You could use a spring check valve on a vertical application.

Correct on the swing check and it can be installed in the vertical as long as the flow (arrow) is going up with the flow so when flow stops the water falling back will close the check. The big nut on top is so you can replace the seat and disc.

Swing checks can be installed vertically, not sure why someone would say they couldn't be. It looks like a swing check.

On dry systems? I could see that on a wet system where system pressure holds it closed.....****, You got me confused now. I'll check NFPA 13.

It's a swing checkvalve with a strainer. The strainer normally goes on the bottom, not the top...
