Hi
Drives: been keeping busy with the happy wife happy life projects and didn't do anything vise related this weekend except pull out the 98 on Friday afternoon for a few pics (working with the
Rev KMS on a few upgrades - for sure jaws and likely a new lead screw retainer/thrust bearing assy). I can't quite promise the Mr. Texas chrome-looking Craftsman/Columbian treatment, but I am going to clean this one up quite a bit - it will take forever and I will have Hercules arms by the time I am done, but I'm finding it's something that I really enjoy doing.
Actually, that's what's going on with the Reed 104.5 right now - largely finished but you may have seen last week where I posted my rookie move of putting the set screws someplace special so I wouldn't forget them and of course can't remember now. So, been working with a few members on measurements and possible replacements from damaged units. I have vowed to get no additional vises until at least the Reed is finished
ALL:
Has anyone EVER seen a Prentiss 98 in an ad or catalog? Me and a few other members haven't been able to find it anywhere - it is a Heavy Chipping Vise made in the Bull ********* ... we have found the 5X (stationary base) series all the way up to the largest, the 58, but have only seen up to a 97 in the 9X (swivel base) series. I know all the specs except exact weight (very close to 320#) but it would just be nice to see this somewhere in print.
