It is very cool joe, but i stick to my word, its yours. Very interesting vise and very well made. But in all honesty i have no use for it. Im glad i picked it up and was able to play with it. But ill gladly pass it along for others to see.

Here is a Desmond Stephan Simplex 8P

Haven't been able to find any info on it but I think it qualifies as a monster vise.

It has about 3-4 coats of paint of different colors on it. Thinking about taking it off and giving it the BLO treatment. Not sure.

Meatsis: if you have pictures saved to your laptop just click on the paperclip above where we write our posts and attach up to 7 pics one at time per post sort of like attaching a picture to an email. if you are posting off a cell just ask and a member can help you with that. i hear Tapatalk might work best.

Root: OMG i think that might be the biggest Desmond I've ever seen. yes it does qualify as a BIGUN because i had a 6 inch wide jaw version that weighed about 150 pounds. now that we know you know how to post pictures please post more if you can.

I went ahead and picked up the MAC vise. It's a little dirty but I didn't see any major damage to it besides the bend you can see in the picture. I put $75 toward it.

, if your jaws are the older thread (5/16 BSW) the screws that come with the jaws won't work. Let me know if that's the case and I can make you some that do fit.

Dwlok,---Like the MAC.---Only the second MAC I've seen.---Dz_Speed has one posted on page 169,---post 3373.---That will look good if you highlight the letters.---I don't have a MAC by the way, if you get through lovin it. :bounce:

2 more additions to my collection.

The small dp vise is cast aluminum with steel jaw faces. No manufacturers name but model 103 or 108 underneath.

The hand vise is also unidentified, but useful.

I want to thank RustyMusket for his help in creating some of these Parker Collars. his drawings and his help in fitting these was very much appreciated.

I still need a couple more sizes to cover the collars everyone keeps asking me about. I need to dig into my pile and find a 3" set that I know for sure I do not have figured out yet. I have the 4", 4-3/4, 6 inch and 8 inch almost finished, Rusty is going to try them out on his Parkers. I did learn every one of these collars needs to be fit. They are not a bolt on ready to go item. Seems the norm for Parker vises. Again thanks Rusty.

I bought this a month or so ago and have been trying to figure out an age of it. I have seen many of them but only a couple with the same style of lead screw knob pear shaped. Any help out there?

That pear shape was also on the ones that pre date the name Versa Vise and they have a patent date of jan 29-01 if that helps. So yours must be later but still early ... I guess that's not much help

Only a few have shown up so far. Suspected of being made by Morgan a long time ago. The Mercury 4 and Standard 4 vise's are also suspected of being made by Morgan. Morgan Milwaukee does not have any record of these vises, they don't have much old paperwork if I remember correctly.

Ok, started my Parker 26 X. I polished the dynamic jaw face, now do I paint it or do I try to polish the entire thing like this, leaving the small areas rough and give it an oil finish or clear the body? I'm leaning towards painting it sage green satin.

It seems that most other vise makers bailed on the pear shape around the 40's so I'm wondering if this would be clue to a 40 years window?1900-1940ish?

I found a 1955 advert and it shows the new style knob so it is definitely before 1955

I found these 2 but they are "Gyro" vise by Columbian. Not sure there ever was a connection, maybe some of the other guys know. When Balane sees yours, he might be able to help also, he has restored a lot of the Versa Vise.

hey guys, just spent 6 hrs on the road driving to and from philadelphia :3gears:

for this Wilton vise cast with ACME TOOL NEW YORK in to both sides. It has 840 stamped in the side and the date on the slide is 12-50, but before i went to pick this up i tried to research ACME tools New York and not much came up. I was wondering if anybody has more info about this vise. :dunno:

A day late and a dollar short. I decided to call today about the big Wilton first mentioned here. It had been for sale for almost three weeks and I thought now might be the time to see if he was in an "OBO" frame of mind. And of course - he sold it yesterday. I hope someone here at GJ got it.

An advert in July 1950 Popular Science shows the Versa Vise with the pear shape, also found an advert supposedly in 1954 of the new style. So we can say the pear shape disappeared between 1950 and 1954.

EDIT: Based on Popular Science adverts the pear shaped screw was still in use in March 1952 .... think I may be getting obsessed finding the changeover date

Woohoo another one! Yes VA Grouseman has a 4.5 jaw width one with a 6-47 date code. I have added yours to the Wilton Date Thread database. I have seen one other in a guys "pile" here recently but he never posted up any info on it.

It found a new home in NW Arkansas. It is a beast at 131 pounds !

Interesting. Will you take some detailed pictures of that please? Particularly the top of the jaw towers (looking down) and then flip the vise over and take a shot from the bottom. How wide are the jaws? Those are really smooth, adjustable units.

Garageguy,---I have one of those that I've had for 4 years and hadn't seen another ACME until about a month ago when Wed4life posted one on page 1338,---post 26760.---It's hard to see in that golden pile of his, but if you look real close in the first pic, it's laying upside-down, right in the center of the pic.---He was supposed to post us some pics of the ACME and the golden pile.---We're still waiting Wed.---And KMScott posted a Wilton WARDS back on page 1201,---post 24006.---Their coming out of the wood-work.

You need to pull the slide and see what the date stamp is and post it on the Wilton Bullet Vise Dating Stamp thread.---Nice catch. :thumbup:
