I promised the comparison pics. Sorry for the crappy Iphone pics but you get the point:

Thanks for the pics, Jens. That's helpful.

The C looks great, and I love the fact that the foam organizers fit right into the trays. I think it's just a tad too large for my application, though. The N feels just about right.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
Thanks for posting these pictures. I have one question what happens if you go to place SAE tools in an Assistent, does it repel them like magnetic fields of the same polarity?

PS,

I'm going to have to get one of these Assistent's, their just too damn cool.

I'm not sure, I haven't tried it yet. I may never actually discover that answer, as this cart will be for working on strictly metric Italian scooters. Closest I've got so far in there is a 1/2" drive breaker bar (which is probably overkill for that application). So far so good.

There are many SAE wrenches and sockets from Hazet and they handle as well as the metric ones. And you can always get one Assistent for the metric and another one for the SAE tools to keep them apart

Those who got the 166N recently,

I hope you can help me...I just got my 166N from Amazon.de today and I am a bit confused in assembling it. I received 4 rubber washers, I understand that 2 are supposed to be installed between the swivel wheels and bottom container. Where does the other 2 go?

Here's the assembly instruction and it doesn't say that the fixed wheels need them: http://www.samstagsales.com/hazetasm.htm

I am also thinking of getting one. I am an electritian and this Selma perfect since I use a cart a good bit. My questions are how big is the bottom of the 166n? I use a 18 v milwaukee drill and a 12 v. And would a recipricating saw fit? I like both the N and C but the N seems it would be more manageable getting it in and out of a van. Is the bottom solid enough I could mod some handles onto it? Any input would be great! Thanks in advance!

Seriously? I look up Hazet's on Google and I find this thread started by you Jess? Wow, it's like I'm an accidental stalker.

Are you still using it and do you still like it? I've always been curious since a racing friend had one and it was such a nice step up from the tool boxes we always took to the track.

Hah! I can't tell you how many times I've googled for something and ended up being directed either here or to my own forum.

I do really like it, with the caveat that portability needs to be part of the equation for it to be useful. When my shop was just a big pile of ****, the Hazet was really useful in the garage (which was relatively clean and organized). As I started transitioning back and forth between the shop and the garage, the Hazet was invaluable and I found I could keep 99% of the tools I needed for working on scooters in the Hazet, ready to go. After I finished the first wall of the shop, put up the metal pegboard, and rolled my 12' of tool chests against the wall next to the MC lift, there was much less of reason to use the Hazet, and it is now collecting dust. I'm thinking that when I re-organize the garage (which has become a disaster while I've been working on the shop) that I'll fill it up with a set of tools and use it as an adjunct toolbox in the garage for minor work where I don't need to wheel a bike onto a lift.

The other aspect of the Hazet is the ability to collapse it and stick it in the trunk of your car. I have on occasion taken it to friends houses when I was helping them fix something on their bike and needed all the tools. It would be really awesome for track days (as you mention) and even in the support truck on supported rides, where someone always manages to have a major issue.

My one complaint about the Hazet: finding the right combination wrench when they're all in one of the divided compartments is a bit of a hassle. Other stuff (sockets, etc) would typically be on a rail, so those aren't such a problem. Screwdrivers aren't difficult either. But wrenches are a giant pain.

Nice! It seems that they've calmed down on eBay so I may start looking again but just reading your response about the 12' of benches next to your lift made me realize that I should swap my welding table and my lift. Not like any of it is in place but that makes perfect sense.

I really want one of these. One dilemma strikes me though. Its supposed to be a portable unit, but I can just imagine an all steel box, full of tools, easily weighing 100-150+ pounds. How are people lifting it in and out of their vehicle?

I have a lifted truck and am just kinda thinking about the effort it might take to try to dead lift this thing in and out of the truck bed.

If you really want a portable unit then you should look at the Mini Assi. It is much smaller and lighter than the 166C or 166N, but it still holds quite a bit. Even fully loaded I can move it in and out of the trunk of my BMW with no problem.
