To misquote Paul Harvey - now tell us... the REST of the story!!

Yesterday must have been ugly discovery Saturday - went to start the old car (model T), no compression, as in ZERO. Pulled the head off - 3 of 8 valves were stuck open, 2 others were so sluggish they may as well been stuck. (Mind you, the car has only been sitting 3 months)... rust on the cylinder deck and head - one of the head bolts looked like it was trying to sieze in the block. Oh yeah - missing 2 of the little lock wedges on 2 of the valves (running 327 valves, not the original 2 piece grenades) - and all 4 of the exhaust seats on the block (only 100 years old) are shot.

So off to the FLAPS #1 that is "the main store" (40 miles distant)... who would have thought small block chevy valves are a special order item?? :dunno: At least they had all the little crud I needed - sheets of felpro, copper gasket coat, valve grinding compound, etc. etc. but the guy working there - well, let's just say he must have been a graduate of "Idontgiveaf*** University, real Kragens kind of moment... Stopped at the other store (10 miles closer) that had the keeper lock wedges and if needed, will order me the valves (Thank you God!!!)... so the project isn't on hold... for now.

On one hand - I should pull the thing down and go thru it all the way, on the other hand, I don't have a local machine & rebabbiting shop close by to redeck & pour the block and for now, it's all OK. ut you can guss what I'm doing for the next weekends...

Replaced a 3/4 3/4 3/8 heater hose tee (wish I'd have found a brass pex one on a Saturday night instead of Dorman plastic.)

Pressed a few bearings & races off / on shafts.

Epoxied & bolted a shoulder joint onto a flexible plastic Disney character for my son; a friend's daughter ripped the arm off.

Just do what UPS, Fed Ex, USPS and all other shippers would do: push them off the tailgate and let them drop! After all everybody KNOWS things are always packed to withstand a 4 ft drop! :wtf:

it is going to **** later to have to move all these for insulation/drywall - but at that time I'm going to hang them all a foot in the air.

I got lucky and it looks like that outlet is going to line up perfect for the heated cabinet I'm going to run off of a thermo-cube.

Held my annual Tech Day yesterday; Great turn-out of over 40 bikes, with tones of donated door prizes worth almost $1500 from awesome vendors:

Set up was done by 7:30, just in time for the first few!

Worked on my buddies 97 Chevy diesel. Had an oil leak from the cooler lines. He just had them replaced last year at the dealer but they installed them into the retaining clips and they rubbed against a bolt and started leaking again. I convinced him to get the braided lines instead of the factory leak prone replacements. Not only that but he had bought the replacements at NAPA... 97 is the cutoff year, earlier had 1/2" lines, later had 5/8". Once I got it apart, his was an oddball. 1/2" lines but 5/8" fittings into the block. All apart and cleaned up now, I just need the correct 90 degree adapter or some bushings.

Assembled a trailer dolly, then parked the trailer behind the garage.

Put the summer tires on the HHR.

Honda Accord oil + filter change. Fixed the loose front subfame bolt that was not attached to anything.

Washed the Bimmer.

Hung 5 Knoll-Reuter overhead cabinets. Stuffed them full of the **** I took off the open shelves and hooks they replace. Sanded some drywall. Got tired of that fast and went out to grind some stumps and grade some dirt and move some big rocks.

My buddy is selling his car and I told him to bring it over and I'll help him clean it up. I swear the thing hasn't had a coat of wax on it in the 10 years he's had it. It has a carbon fiber hood it on it and man was it ever rough. I hit it with the polisher and it didn't help it at all. The gel coat was in rough shape so we started wet sanding, 1000 grit, 1500 grit, 2000 grit and then I had to take the rotary to it with a wool pad which I NEVER use. I had to wet sand scratched out all over it, but it really did turn out nice.

Spent about 4 hours putting on a license plate sticker. Should be a 5min job? Not when the screw inserts turn with the screws to remove the license plate. In between rain sessions, pull the interior panel on the hatch, wiring and release mechanism to get to the back of the insert with pliers. :willy_nil

Pulling interior clips has to be one of my most unnerving things to do. Just enough force to get it loose, too much and it cracks.

Jim, looks like a good turnout, good food and great time! Years ago we did something similar but nearly that organized.

Not bad. Every year it gets bigger. I'm about to run out of space.

Our local club holds these every month, though not usually so large of a turn-out!

It is a lot of work to host, but also a lot of fun. My wife even gets into it.

Today I finished overhauling this:

46239634_934.jpg

It's a 1970-ish Glider, sold by Eaton's. Made in England by Raleigh Industries. Closely matches the Raleigh-made Rudge, except with a boring chainwheel.

Was going to paint it but I didn't want to wreck the decals. So it has "patina". That's valuable right?

I stood around for a couple days this week an should have used a phone or found batteries for my cam. Mon I changed pins and bushings on end of a small excavator and installed a thumb as well as cleaned up for an annual tree sale which went on all week and I swept the last of it out yesterday.
Even standing around thru that eating donuts and drinking coffee I managed to get about 40 small jobs done.

Assembled my new ebay special backpack sprayer, mixed up 20L of glyphosate and went spraying weeds around my property. Did all the bits on the new veg garden that the turf skimmer missed, they'll just get rotovated in when dead, then went all round the yard and driveway zapping all the weeds., did another bed thats infested with foxglove seedlings and clumps of couch grass (nasty big clumping stuff) prior to that being rotovated so the wife can plant out sweetpeas on the trellis at the back and cosmos (flowers) in front.

Cried when i found this.

4e09b84dbff125027b61f62ad53e363b.jpg

It is the chassis for a 65 beetle with a fiberglass body. Need to replace the floor pans. I aint no welder and dont own a welder, but to keep costs down I decided to do all the prep work.
That includes removing the old pans. Well without a spot weld bit or a grinder, SLEDGEHAMMER it was.
Flip the chassis over and beat on it.
The part in the phot is the Front End Assembly. First think i notice was the hole, but more staring at it....it has been in an accident. the passenger side (it is upside down remember) is pushed in about 2 inches.

plazma cut the stainless for my workbench top now tomorrow to install over plywood

was thinking of just gluing and putting a 3/4 inch aluminum edge on the front and a 3inch board on the back cause the stainless will be 2 1/2 inches short on the back bench was 26 deep and the stainless was 48 so I cut in half and made 2 10ft pieces 24inches deep
