There should be a sub-section of general tool discussion for those with broken tool fetishes!

I really really hope this isn't true. I thought they were supposed to be pretty bulletproof. Plus, I really have low hopes about getting local warranty service for mine. I'll have to send mine back if they break

I called Snappy today to find out why he blew me off. He had to take his wife to the hospital yesterday, so importance of my ratchet is nil IMO. He said she will be alright and will catch up with me next week. He has the parts to repair the ratchet on his truck.

It's always hard to call someone on an excuse like that, but oh well

The part that looks broke - is it from the pawl?

Also, ask him if you can have the package of the guts to see what the country of origin is:)

For what it's worth, the F80 repair kit I have squirreled away didn't have any kind of instructions with it. It also doesn't list country of origin on the package anywhere. The F936 kit, on the other hand, came with instructions clearly stating 'USA'. Go figure. :dunno:

No it's from the piece that connects to the selector switch.

You said that before in another thread. I asked you if you've ever tried RLL in a 30 or 36 tooth ratchet and you never did answer. "Don't knock it 'till you try it" applies very well in this case.

Well I have tried it and it is a huge mess!!!!!!

According to my dealer who I asked about this today S80, F80 and T72 bodies are forged in the U.S.A. as is the final assembly. The guts are imported from the other side of the Pacific. He either doesn't know or wouldn't say which particular country.

Well, that would certainly explain the lack of any indication of country of origin on the rebuild kit that I have. :(

Why just import the guts?? Doesn't make sense to me.

Somebody on here once said the ratchet guts were made in Japan because Snap-on didn't have the machinery to make them accurately enough; of course that's hearsay, but it would be a good explanation if it were true. :dunno:

Yeah right. Snap on has the money to buy any machinery they want and put it anywhere they want. With what they charge they could build a giant floating blimp factory and still make money :lol_hitti

Finally, more info on this!!

I remember that post about the guts made overseas. I wish we could get to the bottom of this with some certainty.

Thanks for clarifying that. Then what about the piece that's circled in blue? I thought that was the part that was broken.
