Shed Build Plan

Good afternoon Garage Journal Forum Members,

I was trying to get ideas together for a future shed build in the backyard at my folks place. Current city code allows me to build 120 sq.ft max with 12' ceiling without permit. Presuming you put no electrical. All i would need approval is for location and architectural.

Attached are some photos of my current existing never touched shed that came with the property please don't laugh. I was trying to get ideas as to should i come out the 27" to the one side ? See white mark on concrete. Build the same size with just a higher roof? Don't know if I should build another smaller shed on the pad next to the current shed? The current shed dimensions are 117.25 " x 117" with a 6' height . I'm a 6' guy. See photos for side easement, and back easement to the other neighbors. Don't know if the higher powers would allow me to build another shed on the property. Dont want to take away too much of the aesthetics of the backyard.

Any thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated. Following some of the builds for real shops on this forum and I am greatly amazed as to what people are doing. I just don't have that much space. I would like to ultimately get my tools in one safe weather tight location.

Thanks members for your time I look forward to hearing from you.

What needs to be stored inside? I'd go the maximum, including the height. You can then have upper level storage for items other than the more commonly accessed things. The cost difference to go slightly higher is minimal if you're going to do it.

It also helps to have it cosmetically "nice" to match the surroundings.

It looks like building a second shed would take away from the hardscape in the backyard, so your best bet might be replacing the current shed. You might able to save some of the materials from the old shed and build the new one taller with a slightly larger footprint. That would also give you a chance to dress it up a little with better exterior finishes.

jakgop.....Welcome to Garage journal. If you would be so kind, could you put your state or country into your profile? It always helps when answering certain questions. Thank you very much, and again, WELCOME!!!!

I have a site bookmarked that has shed designs, and you can alter the designs by adding in your own dimensions. I'll see if I can find it and post it up for you.

Well that *****. It used to be www.deplans.com but all it is now is for picnic tables. It used to be a damn good site for structures. Anyone know what happened to the site?

Ultimately what would be great to store inside would be welder, cutting torch, toolboxes, automotive tools, some construction tools, and maybe some yard tools. Dont know if that would be reasonable. probably not  Ultimately trying to get it secured it and waterproof, weatherproof. Currently I have tools in my garage which i share with the folks, i.e. extra stove, second refrigerator, and enclosed laundry room dad and I built for mom. Only 1 car in space. Plus I have more tools at my siblings garage. I dont have much room to go to the back and right side.

I really like the idea of having a accessible attic for storage of less commonly used items

Check with your permit department about multiple sheds. In Sonoma county multiple non-permitted sheds (120 sq ft., 12' max height) must be 50' apart.

Any big box home inprovment store will have a book rack with 4 or 5 books of shed designs.
