I could do that or swap out the entryway pedestal lights for a pair of 5198's that you pass through to Vise Manor

My new acquisition :
PinchPoint, I have an inspection question for you. I've had two of this style vise in the past, a 5196 & 97. The 96 was fine but I found, after cleaning, that the 5197 had a hairline crack on each side of the slide support shelf. They were nearly invisible until the iron was cleaned and closely inspected. Obviously I was disappointed. Could you please look closely, in good light, on both sides to see if you're able to notice any cracking here? I've attached a photo, the cracking, if any exists, would be located where I put a red line. Thanks.
.
she's coming home with me !All I need are two.
I got this today. It has two cute wood vises on it.
Pinch Point Id say you have been putting the SQUEEZEon your local vise market. Nice job

No need to worry about bidding on this one balane. As a non-collector there won't be enough "meat on the bone" to flip. It's not crossing the Missouri river.

You called that shot right, Top.---That one is coming to VA.---Virginia is For Lovers, and vintage Craftsman Vises.![]()

Nice find. What would a guy have to give for a "cute" pair of wood vices?

I have listed them on ebay for 5 days.
I have listed them on ebay for 5 days.
I tried the obvious, or is there something special I should be looking for?
View media item 51551Picked this up today off Craigslist, I'll probably clean it up and paint it.
Pinch: i like the places that you shop at and occasionally i find them open around me. i haven't found a 5198 yet so wanted to congratulate you. yours is the 3rd we know of and maybe the cleanest so far, but i have a question for you. there is a screw on my 5196's vise nut and either yours is missing or it's a different screw. can you take a look and maybe post up a picture of your 5198's vise nut to show either a screw in that hole or the threads where the missing screw should be?
Twertsy: I've never been a huge fan of those big old Cole vises and I've had a chance to buy them pretty cheap. i probably should buy one because they have a cool drill press attachment that can be used with them. as far as i know there was a spring that goes over the screw inside the jaw area that is sometimes missing and they are hard to beat up too bad, but look for cracks and welds too. how much?
Vintage: nice looking big Blacksmith vise and maybe look at TJ's blacksmith vise he posted a couple weeks ago that i think looked pretty similar.
Rad: i did see that, but couldn't see the threads or if there is a screw in that hole. i bought a 5197 where the vise nut was cracked and Econ's 5198 had a bend in his screw. otherwise i think the 519x series vises were some of the best vises made. i do also love and i can't say that enough about he way you can take the vise nut out of a 519x vise by just loosening on screw below with easy access too.
Rumb: very cool old vice and nice job restoring it.
