One thing that amuses me - I had only one item in my cart, but Sears sends me an email saying "your shopping cart is full, hurry and buy now!!" Small thing that makes me chuckle

haha, they used to do that to me as well. At one point, I received two emails a day "reminding" me to checkout. I repeatedly checked "do not send me emails of this kind" and had to repeatedly email customer service before they told me other unsubscribe boxes I had to find and check off.

I'll keep my eye open for the 1/4" flex sets - I need to return something at Sears, so I'll see what they have.

For those you looking for the 1/4 drive metric flex socket set. It is on sale for $24.99 in the store. The part number is 943249. It's an 8 piece six point set with sizes 5,6,8,10,11,12,13, and 14mm. At about $3.13 a socket plus tax, you can't beat it. Yeah, it would be great if it included a 7 or 5.5mm socket but, it's a great deal. My Sears was like a ghost town. The signs were posted all over the tool department for all of the Craftsman socket and wrench sets on sale for 50% off. Individual pieces were not on sale.

My wife just came back from Sears and she said the place was "booming" -- strange how things work!

thanks for the info. That's the one I was looking for. But if you can't buy it online, then you can't take advantage of the extra discounts (spend over $50).

When was the last time you used a 7mm socket?

Just back from Sears. Ours was *******. I did look and see lots of sale tags, but the flex sockets (SAE sold out), were NOT on sale, here. The shop is less then a quarter mile from my house, (where I leave the 1/4" ones), so I didn't pay full price.

I did pick up my Cross-Force wrenches however. While they may be approved by the Arthritis Foundation, the packing isn't.

A question for you.
What do you call lifting with a screwdriver?

To me that is prying. And the Craftsman screwdrivers, I thought were marked, not for prying. Yet the packaging on this wrench set, says lift with a screwdriver. I should take in a bent one from it.:lol_hitti

I'll have to practice that in front of a mirror, "no I would never pry with a screwdriver, I was lifting".

Almost makes me regret buying all the universals (flex) sockets I needed back in that any three for $10 sale a year or so ago.

I haven't gotten past $22 in my cart and plan to skip it if I don't make it to $50, but nothing left I can think of I want to buy from Sears.

bchee,

I took photos of the 1/4" metric set from my local Sears, but cannot find my mini-SD adapter! In any case, the product number is the same as previously mentioned.

I ended up returning my set of Cross Force wrenches. I went through two sets; the first had chrome issues as did the second. Now, my recent 13pc long pattern full polish set has several issues as well, but not severe ones as with the Cross Force. Also, while the Cross Force are longer than Gearwrench's X-Beams, the X-Beams are much thinner and feel nicer.

Well, I couldn't resist the temptation. Decided that even though I could only think of a few places where I'd really use them, I splurged on both the SAE and MM sets of 1/4 flex sockets at the local Sears. Got the last ones of both off the shelves, doesn't look like there's any intent to restock either. :wtf:

While I was there, I picked up the SAE and MM hex sockets as well. Figured what the hell, I'll probably use them more and didn't have any at this point, so why not? At half price, altogether, I saved almost $100 today off the regular prices and on four items which I rarely if ever see on sale.

I think that puts me at almost around $150 saved just in this thread.

Thanks again Stuey and everyone else that mentioned the flex sockets. Those suckers have been on my "want but can't justify unless there's a deep discount" list for ages. :lol_hitti

Sorry, should have elaborated. In an earlier post, same thread (last night), I said I already snapped up the 3/8. I went back this morning for the rest, couldn't resist.

As far as pulling the trigger, I wouldn't wait if you're going to a local store. I got the very last set of both SAE and MM in 3/8" yesterday and the very last set of both in 1/4" when I went back today. It didn't look to me like they were re-stocking. They had plenty of extra stock out for wrench sets, piled high, but there were a ton of empty pegs from socket sets that were picked clean before I got there. :headscrat

Personally I've never seen any of these on sale, at least not in the time I've been looking. At 50% off, more if you spend over $50 (sale staff gave me the 10% extra), IMHO you might as well bite the bullet. I can't get much cheaper than that. Or at least that's how I rationalized it. :spit:

I'm really tempted to get the flex sockets, but a little voice in my head keeps saying "spend the cash on other tools since you rarely even use your universal extensions."

The 40% should still be valid thru tomorrow. It looks like the Craftsman period ended, and the new 5/31-7/04 promo period kicked in.

Edit: I see what you guys mean. I suggest checking again tomorrow morning. If the discount does not appear again, head on over to your nearest Sears and see what they can do for you. Print out the page showing 40% off. That might be the best they can do for you - the 40% off plus 10% "But More Save More." If that doesn't work, then it means the deal is dead.

I think it did go south... I didn't get on this last evening, figuring it would be a good sunday morning excercise.

It just won't happen on the site. In the left hand "specials" part of the browser, it still shows the prices Stuey originally posted, but you can't get em to show up in your cart for nothin.

GRRRR.

Got the offset boxes in both types for $80. Can't go wrong. Even better

ANother sears fuckup...

I got a free set of these:
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/ProductD...9000P&langId=-1&storeId=10153&catalogId=12605

Cause I order one metric and one std, they handed me 2 std, 1 metric.

Best part - I was buying it was 23$ and can now return for 42 in store credit. WIN.

Man, this is the 3rd or 4th Sears delivery mess up in my favor.

I got one set. The 5 and 6 mm sockets look ugly, so I threw them into trash can right away. I do not think I will ever need them.

Had the same kind of thing happen to me recently. That 1 1/8" wrench I got, the one that was twisted AND bent slightly too, well I called to complain and they re-shipped the order and were supposed to arrange pickup via UPS for the original. I got the new one, but UPS never heard from Sears about picking up the bent one. I ended up just giving it away to a family member. It's not unusable, it was just unsightly and too much for me to look at for what I paid. Maybe I'm picky, but either way, free wrench I guess. :wtf:

Went to Sears today (sunday). Everything was well stocked, including the flex sockets. It might be because there were no sales tags at all. Even on the professional combo sets and double offsets. I asked them to check a few prices. All the stuff discussed in this thread was on sale, but NONE of it was marked as being on sale. If they weren't so lazy about marking the correct sale prices, they might actually sell some of the stuff.

By the way i didn't buy the flex sockets, even though I had a $25 gift card.
