compressor drain valve noise

hello, new on the board. The few threads I've gone through so far have been extremely useful. Just don't know how good this forum will be on the wallet(especially that tool box thread).

Anyways, my question is regarding the drain valve on my air compressor. I did the ball valve conversion and it is much more useful than having to reach under all the time but my issue is with the noise it produces. I have a 60 gallon tank and it's about 20 feet away from my neighbor's bedroom. He says he barely here's the tank when it's running but it's when the air is released that it gets pretty loud. So, is there any way to reduce the noise? Right now the tip is pointing straight out and not angled towards the floor like some have it. This would also help the few people who uses my compressor but are not used to it (scared a few people already).

Thanks

If the fitting in the tank is centered and level you don't need to open the valve all the way. You are draining the water, you don't need to empty all the air out of the tank. Just crack the valve until the water stops dribbling.

DIDO, you can also get an air tool muffler to put onto the ball valve, but they have a filter element that doesnt allways allow the gunk to come out with the moisture.

Will leaving the air in cause any issues? the compressor doesn't get used much so letting the air completely out for safety is also a concern.

your compressor should have a safety valve on it somewhere, usually has a key ring on it to maually purge the system. leaving air in the tank doesnt really hurt anything. just allows the moisture in the tank to condense, thus needing a tank drain. dont worry about leaving the tank pressurized that is what the safety valve is for.

there is a safety valve like what you're talking about but for some reason it doesn't purge all the way down. It will only stay open for not even a minute sometimes.

The only thing I can think of is to maybe put on a adapter at the end to increase the size of the pipe so maybe it won't be so ear piercing. Think that would help at all?

I would probably still prefer to drain the tank completely. If it was just me, I would be okay leaving the tank pressurized but I have friends and family who also use it and then the usual issue of kids getting to it.

it wont stay open by itself, you have to hold it open. its set to open up if the tank pressure exceeds 250 or 300 psi. no matter what its going to be loud. the way i do it so it doesnt anoy my neighbors is i just turn off the compressor, then i blow my floor off with a blow gun, at least your not just wasting all of that air.
