Updated the Cornwell listing to include dead blow hammers made by Trusty Cook, which are also sold as Carlyle Tools through NAPA.

Also got a copy of the Caterpillar Tools catalog, so I'll be working on the crossovers between them and Snap-On/Williams Tools.

Big overhaul on Deadblow hammers as it was brought to my attention that Trusty cook is the OEM for Estwing which makes there a crossover for Trusty Cook, Estwing, Matco, Cornwell, Armstrong and Carlyle. I'm sure there will be more to add as time goes on...

EDIT: "lilflippy" (and others), if you have something to add to the thread, please feel free. But please stop clogging it up with requests with giant pictures to find a tool you're personally wanting to buy.

I recently purchased Craftsman hose pinch plier set 74Z706. The box they came in had a label showing that it was sent to Sears customer fulfilment center from Stride Tool / Milbar in Glenwillow, OH.

Thanks! I wasn't aware that Stride Tool = Imperial, a bit of googling cleared that up.

I've been on here for the past year or so and been looking and I bought some descent tools to start and will upgrade as I can afford to since I'm buying all my tools. So it will probably be after I get out of highschool to start getting some good higher quality tools. I started out with just one of those big kobalt socket sets in the 3 most common size then some screwdrivers. Now I'm just buying tools as I need them or can afford them when I find good deals.

This thread is actually the reason I joined garagejournal.com this past spring and I check it frequently. I notice a lot of Matco's tools crossover to Armstrong. Apparently the Armstrong ratchet wrenches are the same as Matco's. Does anyone know if the regular wrenches are the same or if any other companies make equivalent Mac wrenches? Not Expert.

Just throwing this out there - A lot of people bash Armstrong and Apex saying they are junk etc etc. Sooo if they are indeed the same as Matco then.... You get what I'm saying. I personally own a handful of Armstrong's new wrenches, screwdrivers, a 1/2" extension and 1/2" universal and I feel they are the same quality as my top tier stuff. Not sure about specialty items and what not, however, as I do not own any.

Matco's combination wrenches could very well be the same as the full polish Armstrongs, but I haven't even tried to dig up any info on it yet. Same as I've heard the newer MAC Knuckle Saver 2 combos are just Proto ASD wrenches.

If anyone has some definite info, I'll be glad to update with it.

Wow, that is the first time I've heard that and after looking at the Proto wrenches online they are damn near exactly the same as the Mac's. A bit upsetting as I have been spending a ton of time and money on searching & replacing my old Mac's with the new Knuckle Savers design. And you think, Expert tools are Mac's 2nd tier tools, which are made by Stanley. So why wouldn't they be the same? It's amazing how they trick us like that. For example - How many people have been somewhere arguing about their Matco impact wrench being more powerful than their bosses Ingersol Rand when they are, in fact, exactly the same...

same company so its likely. Even if they are the same proto prices are probably close to mac....Stanley is unique in that they have 2 top tier lines.....I dont think proto takes a backseat to Mac or viceversa.....they are both good tools.

I know this is a bit of a different matter, but I was in Sears yesterday and I spent some time looking around and found the screwdrivers, pry bars, hook pick sets, ball pein hammers, punch, roll pins, and chisels were all made in USA. Plus some other stuff I can't remember right now. I've heard before Mayhew makes the Craftsman pry bars and maybe the roll pin and punches also? And I also thought I heard Mayhew made prybars for one of the top tiers if I remember correctly. I purchased a set of long hook picks and the cushion grips were threaded on. I've never used SO or Matco's long hook picks, but does anyone know if their grips are threaded on? They also had a non slip grip on the shaft. Way nicer then those little orange $1.99 sets we all own from Harbor Freight.

This is the hammer I saw. I was surprised at how nice this hammer was. All steel, replaceable head, and a shock absorbing core. I mean $18 is already a deal, but you can probably find one on sale or on Ebay for $10-12 if you look around. http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-...p-00938523000P?prdNo=3&blockNo=3&blockType=G3

Are there any recommendations for an air compressor along these lines? Not a huge deal but figured they're as susceptible to brand pricing as any other tool.

Meh, those are the Bluepoint ones. The Snap On branded ones are still made by them and are much better quality
No shock there. I have the actual Snappy comfort grip picks, and they beat the hell out of every other pick set I've used.

Added the Gearwrench Locking Flex Head Ratchets to the Matco listing, and crossed off the Husky (and associated Gearwrench) Torque Wrenches since they've swapped them out for a totally different Chinese design.

FWIW I was looking through the Snap-On website and zoomed in on a few of the bench-vises they offer. The majority of them say Wilton on the side. Plus the part numbers start with 'WV'. So I'd think it's a safe bet that Wilton is the OEM.

Does SO make the air ratchets 3/8 super duty 7200 and 72c in house or are these rebranded?

I've wanted a good air ratchet for a long time. But $450 for one from SO seems a little steep.

The Gearwrench locking flexhead ratchets are similar to Matco and Armstrong but, they aren't exactly the same. Aside from the Gearwrench version being made in Taiwan, the locking switch on the flex head is different being able to be accessed from both sides of the handle and the tooth count is different, 84 versus matco's 88. they're close but, not the same. :dunno:

About as much difference between the Armstrong and Matco offerings, or the 36 tooth Snap-On vs Williams ratchets. Mostly cosmetic differences, with the same company putting them out, and kits still being interchangeable. It should still fit into the 95% similar range laid out in the original thread.

How come this thread isn't a sticky yet? I enjoy sifting through these sorts of topics, and I am sad that I can't add anything to them. Great information though.

As far as I can figure they're made in house by Sioux. There are a couple of air ratchets by Sioux you can buy, but I don't know if they're the model you want or if they're any cheaper than Snap On.

Beats me, I've been trying since I started it.:dunno:

The original thread became a sticky, even though it isn't updated at all, and couldn't expand to the size of this thread anyway (hence why I separated everything into their own posts right off the bat).

I'm just going to keep it as current as the info keeps coming in, and maybe someday it'll get there.
