I think you're right. The nail and nailer deals are history. Don't waste your time trying to find them. They're toast now.
The nailer and nail deals pretty much happened because HD was shaking out their nailer line to purge any model that was duplicated at Lowes. Now the stores have banners over the doors saying "New Exclusive Nailers". When they go hanging banners over the front door promoting their new exclusive line of nailers, that tells you that they did the inventory shake-up and took a short term loss to prevent long term losses in price matching. Now that the inventory shake-up is over, the nailer deals are history.
Of course, finding nails to match nailers is like a putting together a puzzle. You've got paper collated, wire weld collated, plastic collated, 0-degree, 15-degree, 28-degree, 30-degree, etc., and then they had all of the different sizes. The result is that they had to stock n! different types of nails. I think the nail blowout was all about streamlining inventory so they could decrease the number of active SKU.
That, and they're doing some channel stuffing to the customer by replacing 2k boxes with 4k boxes. In the long term it's all going to be profitable for them. Our short term nailer deals are seeing the sun set.
